The most likely resolution bump is 2048x1536. And such display panels are almost certainly going to be available within the next two years.

That's still not Retina level with over 300ppi.. and may not even be necessary...

Even a mild bump to 1600x1200 would be nice...

2560x1920 would be "Retina Display" with 330ppi but we can only dream....

Flash as an option.

The iPad is perfect for school, except for the fact half of my classes require websites that use Flash!

X2! So many of the sites I use for homework and even classwork use flash, sucks I can't just do it on an ipad. I love the ipad and would love to use it as a primary device so it would be amazing if it was capable of doing anything a laptop could do. Maybe a ios/osx hybrid? File system and all haha.

My wishlist:

1. 1280x960 resolution IPS LCD display.
2. 1 GB of system RAM.
3. 32, 64 and 128 GB flash memory storage.
4. Better resolution front camera (the same as the current iPad 2 back camera) and full 5-megapixel back camera with full digital autofocus.
5. Snap-in adapter on the bottom of iPad for 30-pin iPod, Mini-USB power charging, HDMI video out and Thunderbolt connectors.
6. Slightly thicker case for longer batter life--maybe 15 hours.

My iPad 3 prediction:

- Doubled DPI, like the iPhone 4. Maybe even a slightly smaller screen, like 9", to further increase DPI and make it a bit smaller/lighter.
- Optically laminated screen like the iPhone 4.
- Quad core processor, better GPU, 512mb or 1gb of RAM. (Basically the same sort of speed bump that just happened)
- Probably not significantly thinner than iPad 2. Slightly, but not like iPad 1 -> iPad2.
- 720p front camera, same as on the new Macbook Pro.
- Better back camera. Maybe like the one in the iPhone 3GS. Autofocus, better low-light performance, but not super high megapixel count.
- Built-in HDMI output (maybe mini-hdmi)
- One 3G version. Supports Edge/3G/CDMA/EVDO/LTE.
- *Maybe* combine the 3G and WiFi models, reducing to three models total (with two colors per model).
- $499 32gb, $599 64gb, $699 128gb

No real changes in software, major software updates get announced in April and released in June/July. We'll be seeing iOS 5 previewed very soon, and iPad 3 will probably ship with mostly the same OS, with iOS 6 following it.

Regarding the rumored fall update, I think this is based more on the sensible need to keep christmas sales high more than on any real info. I think there will be something announced at the iPod event regarding the iPad. Maybe they'll combine the Verizon and AT&T models into a single 3G model, and drop the 16gb models, sell them on clearance on the website, and then make the 32gb and entry model. This would really push holiday sales without making early adopters feel too left out.

What it would take me to upgrade from iPad...

1. Smaller, 7". Specs upgraded, especially the RAM to 2GB but if the Battery Life can't be improved keep the 10".

2. Improve the Resolution, if Retina is impossible due to cost give me the highest you can.

4. Not sure how much the Camera is costing Apple but drop the Back and keep & improve the Front for FaceTime. If you want to take picture use your iPhone, Android or BlackBerry.

5. This is the MOST IMPORTANT upgrade for me personally, I want my MUSIC VIDEOS to continuously play without me changing them to TV Shows or Apps!

Not wishing for any type of Connector(s) since I know Apple will never do it. Buy their Adapters.

even the current MBP dont have that resolution. Does such a display exist?

I'm looking forwad to this.

What would you like to be included?

I'm hoping for:

Retina Display
8MP Camera front and back
2GB memory
128GB solid state
Maybe a quad core?

This looks great to me! I bet we only see 1 gb of memory though. I bet storage goes up to 32/64/128. I think the Retina Display will be on it for sure. I think the camera's will be improved, but not to 8MP by any stretch. Quad core is possible.

Even after my crappy experience today at the Apple store, I still want an iPad 2. But the iPad 3 is going to be the one that really hits on everything.

1gb ram (prob be 512 though)
better back camera with flash (not a crappy ipod touch 4g tacked on camera)
12 hour battery life
Improved Display
Thinner bezel
Lighter

Not that I'm aware of at least, hence why I feel that "Retina Display" is a little bit ridiculous...

1280x960 or 1600x1200 would be a nice bump...

Retina may be possible on tiny screens. but at the 10" level... that may be a different story...

I think the ipad/iphone are thin/light enough. I would rather have better hardware and keep the same height. Battery life/camera is more important (esp for iphone) at this point.

retina display
32gb standard
thinner :D
flash as an option
better battery
thinner bezel
even better front facing camera
faster + more powerful + better graphics

You will all be disappointed as the next one will probably only have:

2MP camera.
Full HD video 1080p which I expect Iphone 5 to have.
Faster processor again.
Same design.

Key upgrades I think will be 12 - 15 hour battery with Retina display.

THAT will be it. Worth upgrading just like Ipad 2 but nothing "wow". Maybe 3D if it takes off but I personally would hate the idea of 3D.

Touch to Multi-Task!

I have one big wish for V3, a software touchpad option to engage multi-tasking. Right now you double-click the home button to engage multi-task mode, which is mechanical and in my view more susceptible to failure than a touchscreen switch.

lol i never get tired at fantasising re the ipad3

my reasons to upgrade would be:

-retina display
-4G/LTE option
-thunderbolt connectivity - come on apple please give us a use for this rather defunct tech atm; not all of us want need hi-end RAID solutions!
A TB port could also be used like a MDP thus mirroring the iPad display to TVs/projectors etc as well as allowing me to syncs GBs of data in minutes!
-more support for gestures (bring on IOs5)

Am I the only one who doesn't want a thinner bezel?

It's easy enough to inadvertently put your thumb on the touchscreen whilst holding the iPad via the bezel (especially one handed) that a thinner bezel whilst aesthetically would be nice, would actually be a real pain in the bum to utilize in practice.

What I want is...

Retina Display
A6 processor
SGX543M4 (as apposed to the SGX543M2)
3MP front facing and 5MP rear facing camera with full HD recording
10 Hour Battery Life
16, 32, 64 GB capacity

Most of which I assume we will definitely get.
