Apparently people forget that Steve is widely known to have left directives on running Apple, including new products, for at least five years. Some rumors even point to a decade in advance.

That would mean that everything that has happened with Apple since Steve's death has been in his game plan for the company. There's no "rolling in the grave" - it's still his genius running Apple, despite his passing.

The iPad 4 looks like it will be great. I'm very tempted to make it my first iPad. The mini is something I would've considered with Retina, but a low-rez screen in a tablet is a non-starter for me.

I would've ordered a 4 by now, but I'm hesitating because a lot of people still think there's going to be a major 5th generation ipad update in March. Honestly don't know what to do. I can hold out 'til March but if they've totally switched the update period to Fall then I'd jump in now. The last thing I want is to spend $700 and then 4 months later a better version for the same price is released when I could've easily waited those 4 months. And that's what we're talking about. Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb. They should've named it the "iPad 4 Months".

i think there will be no change in one year for iPad 4, maybe apple will introduce all-new device or technology next year(1st half). thats my estimation.

the iPad 4 is a dud?

i had the iPad 3, fell within apple's unofficial 30 day exchange period, and pre-ordered a 4. when it arrives, i can't wait to put the A6X through its paces.
the benchmark scores are going to be insane, it will be the best performing tablet on the market.

if anything was a dud, it was the iPad 3. what a piece of crap that was, it should have never existed. the A5X was insufficient at powering the retina plus graphics intensive applications like Metal Storm. performance wise, the iPad 3 w/ A5X actually was a step back from the iPad 2.

comparison tests showed this

Don't know if it will be as early as March but I believe iPad 5 is definitely coming early. iPad 4 is a stopgap release mainly to add the new Lightning connector with the A6X thrown in as a bonus.

There has been no change in design since iPad 2, except making it thicker and heavier. This was to accommodate the retina display but it was still a step backwards and Apple is going to rectify that ASAP.

I expect the iPad 5 to adopt the same Black/Slate and White/Silver design as the mini and the iPhone 5. It will be lighter and thinner than the current iPad 2 with a longer battery life and may be slightly smaller with the mini's bezel design. I believe it will still contain a A6X because the A7X won't be introduced until after the A7 iPhone. It'll probably get a die shrink though and clocked a little higher and would be more of a "tick" upgrade.

I believe that Apples done the right thing.

Setting personal preferences aside, they've refreshed a lot of models in a relatively short period, in order to position the entire line of products properly for the upcoming holiday selling season.

It's a very smart move for Apple.

exactly.....would love to see AAPL at 675 by xmas.....

This seems to be the most reasonable thing to expect. Planning on walking into an Apple store on friday just to see what the Mini feels like. I may walk out with a 4. Or order a refurbished 3.

i think we all expected the ipad 3 refresh to be in March. No one thought about a refresh of the 3 which was to everyones surprise.. The thing is that i wanted the 3 as well as my first ipad but now the 4 is out.. What to do? Do keep waiting and waiting or buy one now and be happy and deal with a new one later on?

I kinda don't wanna wait another 6 months.. Feb is just to early for another release IMO.. heck the refurb 3 sounds pretty amazing at that price.. Might consider that as well... Seriously how much difference is the A5x compared to A6x?

Go for it (i.e., the 4th gen). The beautiful retina display plus a notable performance increase over the 3rd gen (which was basically a 2nd gen with a GPU boost to cover the increased resolution, and in some cases actually slower vs. an iPad 2).

Combine that with Apple's revised connector so it's a touch "future proofed", improved WiFi, FFC, I think it's a pretty stout product.

Sounds more like sour grapes to me. There is no doubt that the 4 will not sell as fast as the three but just wait till the holiday season hits. The 4 has a long time to sell in number that would even make Steve look down and smile.

The mini will have its own following. Apple is just giving us more choices. It looks like Apple is changing it's sales strategy and we will be seeing more new devices and much quicker than we did in the past. Hope we see the iPhone 6 in Spring!

I hope not.

Why would we need another iPhone in the spring?

It's not a dud but the majority of the public have no idea a 4th is even coming out. If there was ever a case to name a device something something S the iPad 3S would have been the perfect time.

thats true.. a few people here at work didn't even know about the mini let alone a the 4th Gen.. the look on there face was priceless lol. .

Buy it

GO AHEAD AND BUY IT AND ENJOY. I have an ipad 3 and sold it for 650. I am purchasing the ipad 4. And Ill do the same when the 5 comes out. Everyone is bitching but with resale values like this you can keep doing it. Id like to see someone buy every tablet with an upgrade for 200 on any competing tablet. works for me. Dont wait - There will always be an upgrade. Get it and enjoy it. I was pondering the same when I bought my macbook air but I just went ahead and bought it and I am glad I did even though a new one cam out a few months later. Didnt upgrade on that one ;-). But I did on the retina....LOL

^This is why I preordered one on Friday!

Called my local Apple store

Most of the 5th gen iPod Touch are out of stock
A good portion of new Nano
iPhone 5 - yeah right
iPad mini - backordered
iMacs - not here yet

I want Apple to have SOMETHING to sell.

This what happens when product developed and right away realse without time to run and see how does it work,
the ipad 3 came out, nice screen but poor prformance,
so what Apple does? see where are the weak points then corect them, in this case strong graphic card and faster processor and more,
I am sure that people should return the ipad 3 for corect preformance,
like the bad antena story

I couldn't agree more.

Many forget that the iPad 3 is essentially an iPad 2 with a Retina display, more memory, and faster graphics processor to support the higher resolution screen. The iPad 4 is the first real/usable upgrade in performance since the iPad 2.

This was true for the ipad 3. However, I waited in line for hours to get my ipad 2.

I walked into the Apple store on 3rd Gen release day about 10:30 where there was no line at all and purchased my black 32GB AT&T model. Seems like the 4th Gen is going to be the exact same.

There are just not lines for iPads like there are for iPhones.

I hope not.

Why would we need another iPhone in the spring?

You would not need one, this is the problem with some. A new phone would just have a few updates but be very similar to what the 5 is now. I think Apple is going to be making incremental updates more often now as a new sales strategy.

Oh lordy so did I. I think I waited like 8 or 9 hours in line for the iPad 2. :(

I was expecting a similar situation with the 3. But when I went up late just to look at the line, there was none.

iPad 3 was flawed. It's obvious that the retina screen needed the A6 chip but it wasn't ready in time so it was stuck with an A5X chip which didn't the CPU but only the GPU to maintain the retina res. the result being a WORSE experience then the iPad 2, which apple had to fix right away. So I don't blame apple discontinuing the line all together

They shouldn't have even launched a 4th gen they shoulda just changed the port and just put that out. People would have been less pissed

and the nexus 10 would cream the ipad in christmas sales. N10 has over double the power of the ipad 3.

Not even apple marketing can compete with that. They HAD to increase the power or face being humiliated by google/samsung
