Has there ever been 3 leaks of a product more than 6 months ahead of its release? Now we've seen back plate, inner backplate (from two different sources) and a glass front in 4 months total...

Apple will release all there new stuff in the Fall. One big event and that's it for the year.

I really want to upgrade my 16GB iPad4 to the 128GB model. Do it now or wait until iPad 5. Such a dilemma :(

Wait, the hope is the gigage moves down in price
499 32gb
599 64gb
699 128gb

That is the hope anyway, I would wait the 4 will still have good resale when the 5 comes out, but don't upgrade yet! Don't drop 800 on an ipad that will soon be outdated ;)

I plan on swapping the 3 for the 5- so I doubt I'll the chip much thought.
But right now- between the 3 and 4....I see very, very little real world difference.
Again- IMO- if you have the 2 or 3- The play is to wait for the 5.

Just because you don't see the difference doesn't mean its not there. It all depends on how you are using the device. For causal use its a little faster but for any intensive tasks like photo/video editing, gaming (not angry birds) etc. Its definitely a huge difference.

Anyone as kind as to briefly resume differences between 2, 3 and 4? Or give a link to a resuming webpage?

The 2 has no retina display and the 3 is slower than the 4.

The current storage prices are an insult to the buyers' intelligence. I hope the entry model of the iPad 5 will be at the same price point as today, yet with 32 gigs instead of only 16.

I doubt it. I would also like to see this happen, but something tells me that this next upgrade will not be the one where we see this happen. Consumers will be giddy enough about the new form factor and lighter weight, which I'm sure is compelling enough for most people to upgrade.

It would cut too far into Apple's profit margins and the rest of the market is still churning out 16GB base level tablets, so it likely won't happen just yet.

It would be fantastic if it does happen, but don't hold your breath for it.

At the $499 price point 32GB is pretty standard now, and those who still offer only 16GB at $499 usually add in a way to expand storage cheaply. Apple is being cheap on already huge margins.

Based on todays news, it is going to be a long wait until the fall dawns on us. i only hope that Apple wows us in the tablet department by going in line with the iPad 5 casing leaks and hopefully delivers with the iPad mini by adding a retina display till than fingers crossed.

Still doesn't change that it would be a dumb move to buy an iPad 4 for 800 dollars that will be outdated in a few months.

Well I think 16gb iPad 4 will be taking the place of the ipad 2 at $399 ;)

Apps are getting really big in size, I sorta regret getting only an 16gb model of the 4 myself.

I guess a man can hope.

It will take years, not months, until it gets outdated. My iPad 2 serves me perfectly well. But for those who need to have the latest and greatest at all times, yeah sure.

Btw, it's more likely the 16-gig iPad 3 that will take the place of iPad 2 when the 5 gets released.

They are cranking out iPad 4's like hotcakes I can't see them ramping up production for the iPad 3 that is well not being made like hotcakes anymore.. plus the 30-pin fragments the ecosystem.

I really have no clue how someone can justify literally wasting 800 dollars on a 128gb device that is nearing the end of it's product life, when the person already has that same device with 16GB of storage. Sorry, but if you are willing to cut apple a fat margin like that on an iPad it would be dumb not to wait for the latest and greatest at least.

Well I have been spoiled with the retina display so it's pretty hard to look at my old iPad 2 now without seeing pixels.

Here is my reply to another post, but is still practically applicable here.

"The 128Gb on the iPad 5 is obviously coming considering, the new model is intending to replace the previous gen. it won't make any sense for them to drop it, after just launching the 128gb. As for quantities, they wont make it in large numbers as with other sizes.

Now, as for the chance of 32gb. Here is a cost breakdown over time:

ipad 2:512MB DRAM( $7.60)+ 16GB NAND Flash memory costs($16.80): $24.4

ipad 3: 1GB DRAM ($13.90) + 16GB NAND Flash memory costs ($16.80): $30.7

ipad mini: 512MB DRAM + 16GB NAND Flash memory: $ 15.50

Looking at that trend, we can pretty much assume the prices for memory chips have fallen drastically, an a few cues are available from the iphone 5.

16GB NAND Flash memory ($10.40) + 1 GB DRAM ($10.45) = $20.85

32GB NAND Flash memory ($20.80) + 1 GB DRAM ($10.45) = $31.25

Cost for ipad 3 - 32GB : $41.50

64GB NAND Flash memory ($41.60) + 1 GB DRAM ($10.45) = $52.25

Cost for ipad 3 - 64GB : $71.10

Display + Touchscreen on the ipad mini costed $80 and battery was $13.50, while the full-size ipad display & touchscreen costed around $127 with battery pegged at $32.

Assuming that IGZO is making an appearance, and deploying the new GF/2 manufacturing process, its going to drive down both the costs of the display+ touchscreen as well as battery ( smaller capacity is being used). assuming a cost of $115 for the display& touchscreen, and a cost of around $22 for the battery, we have already seen a cost savings of around $30 for the 32GB and $ 45-50

Assuming trends, Power Management modules will drop by about a $1, while new mechanical / electro-mechanical components should drop by about $10 (from $50) and finally the processor should see a drop by $4-$5.

3G modules should drop down from $41.50 to around $37.

In total, if you look there is a total saving of around $50 on the base model itself .

Considering that Apple makes more margin on the higher capacity models & 3G models, they can easily afford to drop the 16GB and introduce the 32GB as a base model on the ipad, without hurting their profit margin.

A difference of $100 to double the capacity and a difference of $ 130 for getting 3G/ 4G, I think a 32gb base could be on offer as an entry model."

The bottom line is people hunting for a iPad should wait if they have a PC or laptop to use, why waste your money just to use it for several months until the five gets released and than sell it again only to lose value and suffer the regret of having not waited till fall.

Oh and remember that simple saying 'Good things come to those that wait'

Looks like Tim Cook has pretty much confirmed that there won't be a new ipad until fall.

Bold characters do not make you any more correct...

Waste your money? Sell? Lose value? Suffer? Regret?

Why even buy an iPad at all, if that's how you feel.

Depends. If you're a total gear-head who must have the latest/greatest (and no, I don't consider that a sin, BTW), the current models are fine. There really isn't anything out there at the moment that you could say is really better than the iPad 4 (not even the Nexus 10). If you're happy with what the 4 will provide and think it will be with you for at least a couple of years, buying the 4 is fine.

We still have the iPad 2 and were never really tempted to upgrade (still a class device IMHO).

The only significant difference between the 4 and 5 is going to be form factor IMHO.The processing power may be very similar so Apple will use the new form factor as the main selling point.

The 4 will likely be more than fast enough for years to come.Current apps don't come near to its potential which is why a lot of people don't notice a great difference between the 3 and 4 with todays apps. The 4's hardware is way ahead of the software curve.

Some people may actually prefer the current form factor.Having no bezels on the 5 would mean fingers blocking some of the text. The mini can get away with no bezel because you can hold it in one hand so fingers don't block the display. You can't hold the 5 with one hand. The weight of the 4 also gives the tablet a solid quality feel.

Having said all this,if the 5 comes in at 400g and the IGZO display is stunning,I may just be tempted to upgrade.
