Heck, I'm all for newer products but it sure seems some aren't really happy/satisifed with what they currently have. I guess it depends what you own now but heck some folks still like their ipad 1 and ipad 2 so ....

yeah my doctor was viewing my medical records on an iPad 1. i asked "ever thought of upgrading to the newer iPads?" he said "why? this works great" when i think about it, it makes sense. he doesn't use it for games, just for medical records and looking up meds etc. the guy probably makes 3x what i make as an engineer and he's using an older iPad. just shows that even if one can afford it, doesn't mean he will always upgrade.

while yes, Apple did not extend iOS 6 to the iPad 1, it's still an incredibly capable device. i'm still running iOS 5.1.1 on my iPad 3 for some jailbreak apps that aren't compatible with iOS 6 yet. so i'm running an OS that's 2 years old and the only issue i ran into was that i can't upgrade to the newest TED app which requires iOS 6.

this is why i choose Apple for mobile devices - their long term support is superior to that of Android

Probably.

Don't see a product event this close to WWDC.
Apple does events when it has products that they feel are worthy of events. And since it's at least 2 months to WWDC, there is still plenty of time for a separate event.

However, having said that, I agree that September give or take a month is the most likely time for iOS product updates.

IMO- not really.
The 3 is just as good.
I bought the 4 to replace my 3 expecting much better, faster performance.
Side by side- Not the case.
The 4 made very little sense.
They pretty much got it right with the 3.
The 5 will be a much better step up from the 3.

Developers (including Apple) target the lowest common denominator. Currently, that's the A5.

The A6X is a much more modern chip. So, in a year from now, lets see if you still think they got it right with the 3.

to abandon support for the A5 chip means they would be yanking support for

-iPhone 4S
-iPad 2
-iPad 3 (A5X)
-iPad Mini

that's quite a lot of customers. i expect iOS 7 and iOS 8 to run on the A5.
if iOS 8 ends up being a complete overhaul, then maybe they would yank support for the A5. if it's just more of the same with that BS of "200 new features" which are simply just software options tweaks then i expect the A5 to be supported

I plan on swapping the 3 for the 5- so I doubt I'll the chip much thought.
But right now- between the 3 and 4....I see very, very little real world difference.
Again- IMO- if you have the 2 or 3- The play is to wait for the 5.

I think its safe to say what Rene from iMore said about the iPad 5 event in April isn't going to happen.

That's fine. Still enjoying my iPad 1.

I rather have the iPad 5/iPad Mini 2 not be what happened to the iPad 3...

Why would the iPad 5 be? I see this more likely to happen with the iPad mini 2, esp. if it comes with retina display.

Apple's making the iPad 5 thinner and smaller (bezels like Mini) while using new screen tech and other stuff.

Any number of problems could happen.

Comments like this are so silly and misinformed. Yes, a few people thought the iPad 3 got a little warmer. A very few people had issues with the screen (same thing on the 1 and 2 and now 4). And the battery life is a little, just a little lower on the 3. So?

I had the 1 and 2 also. The 3 is way better for my usage.

Making blanket, incorrect statements like that implying the 3 was a failure is silly.

Hardly incorrect - take a look around these forums. The iPad 3 does get very warm due to the size/workload of the A5X chip, it also has the more backlight issues as the iPads before it...most people I have spoken to who own an iPad 3 (friends or work colleagues) would agree. Uneven screen tints, slow at times due to the lack of power of the A5X chip, backlight leakage, heavier and thicker than iPad 2 - should I go on? Personally I think the iPad 3 is not up to Apples usual standard of devices. Why do you think they got rid of it 6 months down the line? A problem child if ever there was one...iPad 4 only solved the speed issues - the sooner a new iPad comes out, the better!

i heard they already engaged other manufacturer for new chips.

I guess we're going to have to agree to disagree. My iPad 3 does not have any backlight bleeding, heat issues or slowdowns. And I have been hanging around these forums for a long time and others for quite a bit longer and There have been an even number of screen issues and something to complain about with every device, laptop and desktop release. I really havent seen many more issues with the iPad 3 then with most other Apple releases.

The reason it was updated was a new chip was available, a new connector was available, and Apple appears to be excelerating the refresh cycle in general. That doesn't mean the iPad 3 was a "problem child."

That is just incorrect and overblown. Sure the 4 fixed issues with the 3. S does every release.

----------

Btw, did you miss the very long discussions of contrast issues due to dark video on the 4? Considering all the movies I watch on my 3 I would be pretty upset with those issues. I bet that thread is longer than the heat thread from the 3.

And an awful lot of people on the "het" thread for the three where saying "what heat problem? Mine's fine."

It took me two exchanges to finally get an iPad 3 that was worth anything. My first one had yellowish screen tint and a line of pixels that were dead. My second had yellow tint on one side and pink on the other and the battery was lucky to last 9/10 hrs. My final iPad 3 I do admit was perfect. Lasted 15-18 hours, didn't get as warm and had a perfect white screen. I told the genius that I felt like goldilocks with having to exchange them!

LOL

The iPad 4 was everything the iPad 3 should have been.

Bad luck. I read 10 threads that sound exactly like this every time a new product is released. This is not unique.

LOL back at you. Do we need to link to the "iPad 4 hotter than 3" "has yellow tint been fixed?" And "Anandtech says 4 is hotter than 3" threads? I already pointed out the "I believe the iPad 4 has a serious display flaw" thread. (Spoiler alert, it does)

Yes, the ipad 4 improves on the 3. But the 3 was excellent too. I can't wait for the 5 but not because the 3 was poor. That is just nonsense. Read the board.

I'm calling it Ladies and Gents. There'll be no iPad 5 this month or next. Earliest will be July I reckon and I can't see that happening. I guess waiting until Sep/Oct/Nov is now on the cards.

Oh well...

I always was of the opinion. .that ipad 5 is coming at june/july..rather than March/April. On the other hand, the speed at which 5s rumours are coming in, I am kinda looking at the positive side. The release of the 5s should give us sufficient clues to whats going to come in the ipad in terms of tech advancements and software abilities...although it wont be entirely the same. At least we will know the route the ipads is going to take. Now the question is will the 5s..and the ipads launch within a month or so of each other..post wwdc.

Funny most of what I see on this thread is when the new IPAD is coming out, I did not see much regarding what is new.

Does anyone have any rumors about what is new on the next IPAD that will make it worth upgrading..?

Smaller bezel, thinner and less weight.

All reasons why I will (hopefully) be upgrading soon to it. Looks like earliest will be July :-( is Apple really going to hold out for a year on the crappy update that was the 4G?

Seriously stop complaining about iPads getting warm. The next iPad will be even thinner and lighter with a faster processor, AND GUESS WHAT????? IT WILL STILL GET WARM! There is no way around the laws of physics folks. These are powerful processors running in devices as thin as a pencil pushing more pixels than most laptops! My iPad 4 gets really warm when playing games and I don't give a crap because Im running a retina quality game smooth as silk.

Laws of physics you say...
