Smaller bezel, thinner and less weight.

All reasons why I will (hopefully) be upgrading soon to it. Looks like earliest will be July :-( is Apple really going to hold out for a year on the crappy update that was the 4G?

crappy update? it will run circles around the 3rd gen in benchmarks...lol

The new iPad will be announced in 2nd week of April. I have some sources and they confirmed it. Apple iPhone 5S to be announced at WWDC 2013. iPhone 6 at Sep-Oct. I am losing my patience too. I have an iPad 3 and it's time we see something new. Also I want a brand new iOS.

Shows how correct you were :p:rolleyes:

Benchmarks mean nothing when it comes to real life usage. iPad and such tablets are not for serious and heavy-lifting tasks.

When it's snappy enough, gets all the jobs done and apps run, that's what I care in an iPad.

oh, i agree. but for someone to say it was a crappy update is a downright joke!! there are many improvements to it over the 3 whether they show right now or not.

So did anyone notice that case company says its going to be announced June 18th and on sale June 27th?

That would be great, but most rumors are saying WWDC will be June 10-14. hmmmmm

That's why I like the Mini. The specs may say that it's old and slow, but it does every single thing that I want it to do and it does it flawlessly.

If you are a 3 or a 4 owner who is going to upgrade to the 5 then probably there is little difference in real world performance and 3 owners would be more than happy with theirs.

If you are a 3 or a 4 owner who intends to keep their ipad for 3 years or more then I would want to be owning the 4 because the 3 is going to be struggling like the 1 is today in a couple of years. The 4 will still be adequate.

Well I hate to say it but the fourth gen blew the 3rd gen in terms of performance. The fifth gen might incorporate a a7 processor which will outperform the 3rd gen. Then there is looks the current iPads design is aging and the rumored design will shed weight and will look more sleek than the iPad 3 with a more narrow screen border, And I do believe the iPad 3 does not have 128gb of storage capacity, a lightening connector and better dual band wi fi. How can you go wrong that's why I sold my 3rd gen.

Does anyone else feel that an iPad 5 with a bezel similar to the Mini would be uncomfortable to hold? I have a mini and it's uncomfortable to hold as my fingers constantly are touching the screen due to the skinny bezel. I happen to like to wide bezel of the iPad 3/4. I do hope that the next iPad is more like the surface in screen size so we can watch movies in 16x9.

I'm completely happy with my iPad 4. It far better than just "adequate".

Yet I do plan to replace it with an iPad 5. Mainly because I'd like to take it out more. After enjoying the compact & light mini I bought, the 4 stays home. Yet for my needs I require both sizes. So a more compact 5 will be an improvement.

It would also be great to have a retina display on my mini. I hope Apple doesn't procrastinate as long as they have, teasing an iPhone 6. Thankfully I've got my Galaxies with their spacious displays & enjoyable Android OS's to use.

Apple seems focused on milking us for every dollar they can get for mediocre "upgrades". Yet nothing lasts forever, at some point Apple's bound to get back to work.

And that's it.

There is nothing on IOS that takes advantage of the extra speed.

I have a three which I like very much. I tried the iPad 4 in the store and found it was much quicker at rendering PDF files. I was tempted to upgrade but decided to hold out for the five. I expect it to be faster, have a slightly better display, be lighter, charge more quickly and to be more suitable for note taking with a stylus. Maybe no individual item would be enough for an upgrade but the group will be nice. In addition, we may see a surprise.

I'm the opposite and hope Apple never adopts the 16x9 format. I've owned a few Android tables such as the Nexus 7 and Galaxy Note 10.1 and hated the format, it was like looking through a letter box. Using web browses in landscape results in a small viewable area as the address bar etc uses too much of the screen and in portrait sites are tall and narrow.

However I don't watch Movies but do a lot of reading/web browsing/gaming so its all about usage really

I agree with you 100%. I had a Kindle Fire, Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, and Nexus 7. I liked them all, until I got the iPad Mini. The 4:3 screen is SOOOO much nicer.

The only benefit I could see to the 16:9 screen is for watching movies, but I never do that. Well, maybe once every couple months while waiting for my car to be serviced. Other than that, why watch a movie on an 8" screen when there are 50"+ plus screens all over the place?!?!?! :D:p

June or July seems more likely. They are not going back to a 12 month cycle. That would not make sense at all. Maybe Oct for a retina Mini, but we are talking about the 5. The Mini is a much more difficult transition.

I know nothing so it is only a guess but I bet iPad 5 in June or July.

No way we'll see the iPad 5 until after October, closer to Christmas. The iPad 4 is still an adequate machine especially with the 128 update.

Same with the iPhone 5. We'll see the 5s refresh same time we normally do. Sept-October.
