what sort of work are you getting done on your surface tablet? not theoretically, but actually.

me, the only work i need to do w/ my tablet is email and world processing, occasionally flipping to a sleepy spreadsheet or two that work perfectly in Numbers. im not designing logos in Illustrator or doing touch-up work in Photoshop...and i doubt many others are doing that on a small tablet to start with.

so...what am i missing? as a home office worker most of my work is textual.

I would agree... this "I can get work done" with a Surface is a lame argument. I think this is where Apple called it right... Tablets are about consuming content not creating content. Creation is better done on a real computer... however, that's not to say there are not business applications for tablets... I've seen several businesses using iPads now for ordering or inventory checking, etc... so there are "work" applications too... writing a book or doing your accounting is not one of them. :)

I agree completely. I've been perfectly happy with my Macs and iPhones over the years but I cannot find a way to incorporate an iPad into my daily lifestyle ? I wish I could so I would have an excuse to buy one :D

I always felt the same way, and tried an iPad anyway. It's just such a joy to hold and use casually, for consumption purposes. It has taken a good 85% of my consumption time that was otherwise spent on a computer.

This is the ipad i have been waiting for since i sold my ipad 1.

Those covers look like childrens covers though. Im a 30+ working professional. I want a dark blue cover, or dark green, or leather brown, or ox blood red. Anything but this candy color bs

I am going to get slain for this...

But why don't they add a flash to the iPad camera? Now don't get me wrong. I am just as annoyed as the rest of you at the countless number of people busting out their ipads to take photos. It looks ridiculous. It is ridiculous. But, fact is, people are doing it. May as well give them a good experience taking photos, no?

Surely, it looks no more ridiculous to hold an LED flashlight in your hand alongside the iPad when taking a picture, right? I mean, if you're gonna go all awkward and clunky, why not jump in all the way?

At some point you going to have to get over yourself with the whole real work thing.

does it bother you?

when I go to meet a client i have the ability to take my surface and not miss a beat because it does everything i need it to. If I took my iPad I would need to also lug around my laptop for task beyond email and other worthless items.

I would imagine the smart covers would be in the exact same colors as the iPhone 5C/5C covers. Apple said the colors for the 5C were picked specifically to match the colors used in iOS 7. I would assume they would employ the same strategy here too. But I guess they have always had a (red) smart cover and it would be a shame if they got rid of the color just for the sake of it not going with iOS 7.

It just leads to countless threads to run off topic. I get it you like the surface, and don't know how to use a iPad "to for real work"

Who would buy an iPad 5? It too big for doing stuff now a days! iPad Mini Retina with all the updated components will sell like crazy - A7,M7, 802.11 ac, 4GB RAM and IGZO display!

I sure someone will be in the market for iPad5 but most will be buying the Mini!

Can't wait for the iPad 5. I will be getting it over the iPad Mini Retina.
Why do you consider it too big? It will have the same form factor, so really it'll be closer than you think, the main difference being the 9.7" vs 7.9" screen.

Also, it is just a guess, but many think that the mini may not get the top specs that the iPad 5 gets (A7? Touch ID? etc.) and the mini may be given older generation components to differentiate the two lines and justify the $329/$499 price tag both from a manufacturing and consumer standpoint.

We will see though.

2" difference separates true portability vs. carrying it around by hand! Also, it will weigh less too! iPad Mini will be just the ticket to take it anywhere as oppose to the iPad5 which is more of a bring it from the car and use it at a coffee shop and place it back in the car. Mini you can take it with you all day long! Size and weigh not a problem. Plus, you can easily use it lying down in bed. You cannot do that with a 9.7" size table! I had both and the full size iPad is just too big!
