Got to be something wrong with yours, maybe some app you installed as both of our Air 2 cellular units are working without flaw.

Nah man, doubt it. You see all the posts above reporting the same issue? In addition, some iPhone 6 and 6+ owners are also experiencing the same problem.

My iPad Air 2 LTE 128GB freezes at least once a day, usually when I am using Safari, but sometimes when driving and using Google Maps.

On a few occasions it has frozen and unfreezes itself after 5-10 minutes, but usually not.

I don't have many apps installed on the iPad Air 2, so presumably this is either an OS issue or the controller for the flash memory.

Ya man, l;ike I said my two Air 2 have not crashed yet. I do not have more than two to three tabs open at a time but have had no problems.

If, like you say, this is common, replacing your unit would yield the same results so good luck.

Doubtful, with all the reports here and elsewhere. I think it's just rare...probably a very specific set of conditions that your devices (and many others) haven't yet experienced.

Personally I've only had this happen to me one time (a hard freeze). I don't recall doing anything differently when it happened, but obviously there's a lot going on behind the scenes. One time in my approximately 12 days of fairly frequent usage...annoying but far from gamebreaking.

I think one of my Air 2 units did freeze while it was updating some of the apps and I was trying to do something else at the same time. Other than that it has been pretty well flawless.

I haven't had a freeze in 2 days. It's just so random lol.

I had another freeze last night as I was following election returns on Safari. It first slowed down, then froze.

Just adding to the collective knowledge ;P

iPad Air 2 - 128Gb WiFi only - preorder, delivered release day.

Two complete lockups in past couple of weeks;

1. Game - Best Fiends
2. latest version of MS Word

...both occurred when returning to these already open applications from another app or home screen...

...like others here, my experience was that once locked up, the unit responded to nothing other than a hard reset. I've not had any spontaneous reboots but have had a few apps just close (but had that ob previous iPads and iOS versions)

My first one would freeze twice a day or more. I returned it and my second one has only froze once. Mine mostly froze using chrome so I deleted it and it hasn't froze since then. 64gb wifi.

I haven't had any freezing but something weird happened today, after I swiped up to close the Directv NFL Sunday Ticket app it went to the apple boot logo for about 5 seconds or so then went back to the home screen...never seen that before

I've had this happen twice while reading webpages on safari.

I've had some freezeups too across a few apps but mostly with Chrome browser

Mine are mostly with chrome also. I deleted it and it hasn't froze. I would rather use chrome. My iPhone 6 plus 64 gb has not froze and I have the same apps on it. I use chrome on it and it is fine.

An update: I've had two lockups in the past two days. In both cases the device grew progressively less responsive until it froze and had to be reset. In one case I was on safari, with the other I was using the twitter app.

The behavior seems similar to that of Chrome on my office PC. Chrome doesn't play well with memory and will gradually slow down until it has to be killed off with Task Manager.

This iPad doesn't have Chrome installed. I wonder if there's a memory leak that the OS can't handle.

I like the iPad, but this is by far the least reliable Apple device I've had. My iPhone 6 is solid as a rock. Not so the iPad Air 2.

My Air 2 64gb on two weeks had 1 random reboot while typing an email, 1 freeze that I had to manually reboot, and sometimes the notification panel/control center gets stuck on portrait while everything is in landscape.

And I don't have chrome. So there must be something else...

My Air 2 128GB cellular has frozen on me three times in two weeks, each time requiring a hard reboot. I think each time I was returning to a game 'Plunder Pirates' that I had been previously playing and was in memory, paused.

My 128GB 6+ has not frozen once.

I am in the same boat mate. My ipad Air 2 has been freezing on me quite often (especially when switching between apps), i used 4 four finger swipe to switch to safari, and the already open webpage looked kind of funny, the fonts were rendered too big and the address bar was missing. At this point the whole UI was frozen (I have had the software assistive touch button enabled and it did respond, but clicking on the home button didn't take me back to the main page). I had to hard boot it.

Its happening every 2-3 days for me as well. Happens with different apps when switching apps or logging in.

Hmmm. Got my Air 2 yesterday and haven't had any issues yet, BUT - I have had this exact issue on my iPhone 6 64GB. Hopefully it's all a software issue, not that whole TLC Nand issue that I read about ... :/

I wonder if the Air 2 uses the same memory as the iPhone's (64GB and 128GB)

This happened to me for the first time today after several days of use.

My iPhone 6 hasn't locked up once (64GB) while my Air 2 which came by later has done this more than a handful of times already (also 64GB).

I suspect it must be something to do with the extra memory or the tri-core CPU, but hard to say for sure.

The Anandtech review suggests the iPhone 6 and Air 2 NAND storage is similar though.

If they are similar NAND then it would make sense that the Air 2 has similar issues. Seems like it's only some of the memories that are affected since like you said your iPhone 6 has had had this issue.

Not really - the stuff people are complaining about doesn't seem to be with task switching on the iPhone 6... its when they have a lot of apps loaded on it. I have hardly any storage used. The memory and CPU architecture is so different on the Air 2 that its unique to the Air 2 only.

I've had Air 2 for a few days now and it has crashed once while locked. Had no choice but to hard reboot. Sure crashes can happen from time to time but I can't remember my previous iPad ever freeze completely so this is a little bit worrying. Hopefully 8.1.1 will fix things for everybody!

Mine didn't freeze up at all until Thursday and since then mine has locked up once a day!

Once on YouTube, once on safari, once while trying to open an app.

The screen just pauses and everything is totally unresponsive.
I leave it to sort itself out to no avail so I end up holding power and home buttons to restart and its fine again .
But I hope it stops doing it as i need it to be reliable because im going to use setlist maker onstage to sort out set lists and use over midi irig 2 soon as well.

Mine froze like this once during initial set-up. While iTunes was transferring everything over, or at least attempting to, the iPad Air 2 just froze on the set-up screen. I had to do a hard-reset in order for it to start working again. I also had it crash once today, restarting to the Apple logo, while watching a video on YouTube. I'm coming from an iPad 3 and it was a long while before I had issues like this with that iPad. So, a brand new device displaying problems already is a bit disconcerting.
