Mine froze like this once during initial set-up. While iTunes was transferring everything over, or at least attempting to, the iPad Air 2 just froze on the set-up screen. I had to do a hard-reset in order for it to start working again. I also had it crash once today, restarting to the Apple logo, while watching a video on YouTube. I'm coming from an iPad 3 and it was a long while before I had issues like this with that iPad. So, a brand new device displaying problems already is a bit disconcerting.

I hear you man. This is my first iPad so think how I'm feeling about it so far :p Hopefully 8.1.1 fixes this.

I haven't had a freeze in a few days. Is it getting better for everyone else too? I did notice that lots of the apps I use have recently been updated with miscellaneous bug fixes so I wonder if this was bad apps after all?

Just picked up an iPad Air 2 and it has frozen twice so far. iPad Air has not frozen at all in past year.

Is this a hardware or software issue?

I'm hoping its software. Guess we'll find out once 8.1.1 is released. I don't think Apple has acknowledged an issue with the Air 2 yet either.

I haven't had any freezing but something weird happened today, after I swiped up to close the Directv NFL Sunday Ticket app it went to the apple boot logo for about 5 seconds or so then went back to the home screen...never seen that before

That's a respring. It's when springboard (the program that manages home screens and app launching in iOS) crashes. Usually points to a software glitch, but shouldn't be anything to worry about unless it happens frequently.

That is exactly what just happened to me. I switched from Alien Blue to Safari via the multitasking interface and it respringed

I've had MANY issues where the iPad simply won't wake up when pressing the home button :\ I think I've had this issue on two Air 2's now, but my wife has an Air 2 and I don't think she's experienced.

Had two freezes yesterday within 3 hours. Had to do a forced reboot. Freezes happend while starting an app.
It's currently my sixth iPad Air 2 (screen issues), never noticed any freezes/lock ups on the other iPads before.

6 for screen issues that is some serious OCD there....

My iPad 2 air has freeze up quite a few times. Has anyone had success with swapping out their iPad?

My first IPad, 2 hours old and first Apple product in 4 years and it froze on Maps. Had to hard reset. Hope it gets better from here.

I've had this happen about 6-7 times since getting my iPad Air 2 128GB cellular (on day 1).

I can't find any pattern to it. Once I've had the "won't wake up" freeze where you try to wake the device and the screen comes on but it's black, other times Safari has either completely frozen or become very slow (and in both instances the home and sleep/wake buttons stop working, so you can't get out of Safari), other times it's been in another app like Tweetbot where it just freezes completely.

Every time has required a forced restart by holding the home and sleep/wake buttons.

I never experienced such an issue on my previous iPad.

No, I haven't tried to swap it out. Basically since I think this is a software issue and getting another iPad probably won't make a difference. Hoping that Apple is aware of this issue as I'm sure they are receiving tons of crash reports and that it's fixed in 8.1.1

Mine just rebooted while using Safari. Saw a blue screen flash (just like BSOD without text) and then straight to the white Apple reboot screen. Very odd.

I updated to 8.1.1. It froze up on me again when trying to switch between apps. Not sure what the long term effects of so many hard resets will be on the electronics.I'm thinking of returning it.

Haven't had any freeze ups since 8.1.1 either. Safari is also a hell of a lot more responsive. Before I had to tap links sometimes 2 or 3 times for them to respond and now just once does it.

Ah dang...

I've just experienced a freeze on 8.1.1, this time when trying to activate Siri.

This time I left it and after several minutes the screen eventually went black and started showing the "shutting down" spinner, which it displayed for three or four minutes before briefly flashing blue on the screen, then showing the Apple logo and restarting.
