Went to the Apple Store near me in Dallas at lunch, and a few of the employees didn't even know they had them in. Guy I asked for one was surprised when he went in the back and they had them available.
At least I beat the "rush."

Not being ass but what redesign can they do? I just pick this up and it is as thin as the lightning cable - in other words there is no where to go from here.

It will always be a piece of glass with aluminum - can't see what more can they add do this?

Well, when battery density gets higher, they could in theory make in titanium and say 3-4mm thick (maybe with the bottom a bit thicker. It would probably weight 150-200 grams then. The only problem would be, were to fit the camera then? Maybe make it retractable.

Or, they could make it all screen, from both side and also 4mm thick (higher density batteries). Make it transparent with the possibility of looking right through it to get augmented reality. That would be interesting.

That would be something like you sometimes see in futuristic movies.

Considering the speed things is going in 10 years, tablets will be incredible!

Guys, what do yout think about the following. I really was thinking about getting an iPad Air 2 (would be my first iPad), but I'm tending to think I should just probably get a last gen iPad mini for almost half the price. Actually, I don't really feel the need of an iPad, never felt really... my life is already plenty comfortable with my MBA and my iP5. And now that the last year's mini became pretty affordable, I guess now I could jump on the iPad train without spending a whole lot of money on something that I don't particularly need but I am definitely curious about.

If your not planing to upgrade you Iphone, the Ipad Mini II is a very good buy. Its fantastic for reading and streaming media from your DLNA server at home (that's whay I do). That way you don't need to buy anything bigger than 16G.

If you think you need a lot of space for media, the III is probably better (since the 64G is just $50 more than the Mini II 32 G); I think the III also has a better screen (but verify, I'm not sure about that).

Mine arrived at the DHL facility here in New Zealand at 6:50am and then was held at 8:30am for dispatch between 1 - 5pm. I just want it now! Why hold it?

Tomorrow

I'm calmly waiting for my gold air 2 64 gig model. It is projected to arrive before the end of the day tomorrow. Then I'm selling my iPad 4 to help me get out of debt!

hmm ic ic...shouldn't this be like iPhone 6/plus? make it more availability?

i don't think iPad is selling as much as iPad 1-2/

i love iPad...but yes...probably business people/medical people might still use it...

The only iPad that I want to buy is an updated iPad mini with A8 (X or not) with 2GB RAM... So no thanks Apple. Maybe next year.

----------

The Apple Store in Hong Kong still requires reserve and pick up on Apple's website. But every model is available. So I think the reserve system will be lifted soon. If an iOS device doesn't sell out in Hong Kong (aka source of grey market in China), the sales number won't be huge.

how soon do you think it will be lifted?

I'm not sure. I reserved an iPad Air on the launch day in the IFC mall store last year and when I arrived I felt like I did the reserve for nothing. There were plenty of stocks. And soon after (I forgot how long) the reserve system was gone.

that's great...but i hope it would of been the same with the phone.

Oh please drama queen, get over yourself. The difference is very small and its still a lot more than Apple actually promised by 1h; it is identical to the ones of the Ipad 1 to 4.

The reason for the slight decrease is probably more the monster processing upgrade than the thinness anyway. Is it dispectful to give you something twice as fast that crushes the performance of every other tablet?

Lte model?

So, the iPhone 6 had Call Gate and Bend Gate.

ApplePay had Pay Gate.

The Mac Mini had the Down Gate.

I wonder what will be the iPad's thing. Battery Gate?

Some people's heads explode if they cant find SOMEthing to complain about...

double performance
double ram
thinner
lighter
etc, etc.

"but wait, no mute switch"
"and, no 32GB option....those bastards!"

btw, "usage patterns"?

lol.

Applegate. Perfectgate. Godgate.

"It has to be perfectly round, perfect size, perfect red, and not a single dust."

WE?

It appears that Apple is completely doing away with a formal "release date" for these iPads. I imagine there are too many people displeased with the shipping speed of their iPhone 6/6plus, and they are trying a more staggered launch this time.
Though being available in some stores "later this week" and other stores "early next week" completely destroys any hope of "opening weekend" sales figures. (If they care about that sort of thing).

Anyway the sales number will be dwarfed by the iPhone numbers. I don't think Apple will be happy to brag about the iPad numbers.

the iPad hype is over, its a declining business

With Apple, they usually have a declining business within 6 months prior to a new product announcement. That's typical.

I think last year's iPad Air wasn't enough to attract all of the previous iPad buyers since they want more RAM, but this has it. I think this release will do better than the last year's model.

----------

No HDMI, no deal.

You can add HDMI if you really need it, but most people/companies/schools have learned to use an AppleTV and use AirPlay wireless to put the screen on a big TV, but you can get the $40 - $50 adapter if you really want to connect a cable to put your iPad on a TV. But most people are doing it wirelessly, which is far more preferred, easier and more enjoyable since you don't have an umbilical cord hanging from a tablet.

Get with the program. AppleTV and AirPlay with an iPad is the best approach to this scenario.

I don't think most of the users really care about RAM much (until they see the Safari tabs refreshing problem). iPad Air is a very big redesign which significantly reduced the weight and thickness of previous iPads. If this cannot attract previous iPad buyers, I don't think the Air 2 will make any differences although it has 2GB RAM.

Well, if the Safari tabs issue you are talking about is solved, then that won't be an issue. I guess we have to see how well these perform in person to find out for sure.

I'm still happy with my iPad 4, so I'm sitting back waiting to get a new model either this go around, or next go around. I just an new MBPR and a new iPhone 6, so I'm kind of tapped out for my IT budget for the year even though I didn't spend that much on the two. I'm just kind of working through my private budgeting at this time, but I do want more RAM as there are some apps that definitely need it. I like playing a couple of high res games on mine, but I have to quit other apps to play it without any hiccups.

You could always get a refurb and save even more.

Apple never provided sales figures last year. My guess is they won't be doing it for iPad any more.

Apple needs to release product named iBill just so those on twitter can have a laugh.

Anyone in the US have any luck finding cellular versions in store? I ordered a 64gb space gray cellular model online on the 17th, but it still shows processing. Thought I could beat the wait and just buy one from the store.

Nope! I called a local Apple Store yesterday and they didn't even know that had the WiFi models in. I pulled up the Apple Store app this morning and start my order, but it still shows "Coming Soon" for cellular. I'm just going to wait until they are in stores and go pick it up. I seem to remember it was a week after WiFi models were available, that the cellular ones were available. But I'm old and my memory does fail me at times.

Update: Now available in my local Apple stores. Money will be spent in a few days!!! Trying to justify 128G vs 64G.
