I think wait or buy the pro. Ios10/osx maybe will put nice keyboard combination or even have some multiple user accounts for ios and maybe a file management that will be v easy to use with the keyboard

They'd better come up with some pro iOS features otherwise this whole pro thing will not stick...

The iPad Air 2 is my favorite device that Apple has made since the iPhone 4. The design, the weight, the processor, are all great; I've had issues with the iPad's weight since the first one. I foolishly sold my Air 2 in an attempt to make the 6S Plus my one device; that didn't work out so well. I was able to pick up another 64 GB Air 2 on swappa for $400 (what I sold my first one for). I'd try there if you don't mind used devices. It's the best cost vs performance ratio, IMO.

Considering that the Refurb 64GB is ~20$ more, it might be worth it for the full 1 year warranty. depends on if sales tax is a factor.

The only thing that would put me off is if they would improve on the current multitasking (Slipt Screen... etc) and they would not support the iPad Air 2.

Other than that, (or your examples Milti User, better file management) are things I have lived without for so long xD or just not use so, they wouldn't really matter much.

But again. Jailbreak should help. XD

I wasn't sure, but after I spoke to AT&T, I'm in for the 9.7 IPP.

AT&T reviewed my bill and realize it would be cheaper to buy 20GB as opposed to the 6GB I had. They also gave me a $100 bill credit for the inconvenience of putting me on the lower GB plan previously.

$779-$100=$669 for the 128GB LTE. Now I have to decide if I'm going to use Next or a 2 year agreement.

So I'm new to the whole iPad scene thing, and as my first tablet I'm weighing the options here, maybe anyone here could help?

In a nutshell what most concerns me here is future proofing, but, also, pricing.

Coupled with the fact that I can get 64gb of storage for 100 bucks less than the base model of the new Pro, I'm debating.

Will buying the Air 2 now still give me a nice smooth experience on iOS for at least, let's say 2-3 years?

While the Apple Pencil and keyboard are not really an interest I particularly have, or even if the four speakers and nicer display still sound nice I feel like I won't be getting enough for all the money I'd be throwing at this device.

But with the Air 2 I feel like I won't get enough time with it. iOS 10 is just around the corner and given how bad iOS 9 turned out to be when it came to performance I wonder if it will be able to handle it. Or iOS 11?

-.-

I am in a pickle here.

Help please anyone?

Hi. By the way.

Make your mind up here...are you more budget-conscious or do you place heavier importance on future iOS support?

Reading your opening post, you gave no clue.

Apple tends to avoid splitting software features unless there's something in hardware backing it up (even if minor, like a GPU feature). Now, if there's something in the A9/A9X that makes something easier, we might see it, but I would wonder why they didn't launch with it (like the noise cancellation microphone that Apple restricted Siri to).

Well I'd say both.

But my budget has a bit more weight in the whole thing.

I just think that throwing US$ 600-750 for a tablet that will not replace my laptop isn't really worth it.

But again I'd like to at least get a few (2-3 years?) of a somewhat smooth iOS experience.

Currently have the iPhone 6 with iOS 9.3 and its pretty great when it comes to UI animations and app launch, which in real world performance is what really matters to me (thinking of sticking with iOS 9 for a while).

I'd like an iPad for the bigger screen real estate and how it would be better for my note taking, books, multimedia consumption, and light gaming?

I think my mind is pretty much made up yes.

The Air 2 seems a better deal since 64 GB would be better suited to my needs, and well in my price range.

So. All in all. Future proofing to me means 2-3 years?

Or you could find yourself paying extra for the iPad Pro now and still upgrading with even more money after 2 years. There's just no guarantee either way. Mind, I believe Apple certified refurb is just $419. Discounts are even bigger if you want 128GB LTE ($599 vs $879).
Do you think it is worth buying the Air 2 64GB Refurbished for $ 419? I'm seriously thinking about it.

You likely wont be able to find one, unless you want a gold. Apple has had the same gold 64GB WIFI one for 2 weeks. No new stock though for a while.

The 16gb have rotated in and out, but no new 64 models and zero 128 that I've seen.

They're a bit of a unicorn so you have to use $499 vs $599 really.

There is a problem with the gold standard in addition to the color? I intend to use cover.

Nothing wrong its just a color. I just imagine since its been there 2 weeks that gold (if it's the same one single iPad) is not a very popular color overall; or maybe they only have a few gold ones.

I dont want white bezels so I wouldn't buy gold or silver to begin with.

No one can really tell you how will the Air 2 in 2-3 year time, but my mate is still using his iPad 2 :)

BTW I too own the iP6 and just got the Air 2 today, reason I didn't buy the small pro is I'm not totally happy with that product, why buy something that you are not happy with I told myself, then the decision was made.

Hi. By the way.
OP, have you made your decision? I'm in the same question.

I upgraded to the 9.7" iPad Pro from an iPad 3 - the Air 2 was never a consideration - I would always buy the latest iteration of an iPad.

As someone posted on another thread -

"The A8X represents the end of an era with Apple you don't want the fastest last gen tech you want the Newest Gen Tech and thats A9 level and A9 level GPU. A9X even better."

For someone like my mom, sure (she's still satisfied with her iPad 3). I bought a Pro 9.7 256GB LTE for myself. I really don't know you so I wouldn't know if it's a good fit for you.

I do agree. Buying a device that will be 2 years old here shortly already to save a whopping $100 just doesn't sound all that worth it. The Air 2 is the last of the A8 generation still sold.

The mini will be out of the A8 soon here, in about 4 months (Mini 4 was September 2015) and will likely move to using the A9. Why buy an A8 based device now?

I just can't see trying to save $100 buying end of 2014 tech. If $100 is the deciding factor (spread over 1-2-3 years of use), then maybe you should be buying an iPad to begin with by your finances?

If its for the young kids to play games and watch movies and will get beat up, that's one thing. But expecting it to last/be supported 2-3-4 more years as a primary device may not be reasonable with the "new Apple."

I am torn.. I was gonna get the Pro 9.7 but I just saw the Air 2 for £299 on the refurb store.. That's £200 less.. I don't care about 32gb vs 16gb (don't need much storage on my iPad), I don't care about pencil or smart keyboard.. Other than the camera (that I don't use) and extra speakers, is it worth the extra £200?

If you can get by with 16gb you cant beat the refurb price.

The refurb 16gb is $339 US and 9.7 Pro is $599. A large price difference.

I agree the price is VERY nice on the Air 2 refurb.. I just worry about it lasting, I want to keep it for at least 2 years and it's all ready about 18 months old.

That's the big problem, but again, you are jut over paying half the 9.7 Pro price too.

That's a much tougher decision.
