I'll be curious if the new iPads with run a more powerful variant of the A8 (A8X?) to better handle the supposed split-screen multitasking and rumored 12.9" iPad.

I don’t think they’ll need it. The A7 pushes the 2048x1536 along just fine, and we know the A8 is faster yet (the SOC purportedly a has a 50% better GPU).

I think the thing that _is_ needed for managing multiple views/windows (and their objects/tabs/UI/state) is more RAM.

- TouchID
- A8
- 2GB RAM
- Improved display tech (like the iP6s)
- Drop the weight ~150-200g

New iOS 8.x iPad extensions for split screen, etc. :)

No iPad mini coming this year, you say?
Hmm, gives me enough time to recover from the iPhone 6 purchase.

Hmmmmm.... I'd like to upgrade from my iPad 3 but....

Around what month is the second quarter of 2015 usually for Apple?

Does the iPad still refresh twice a year?

If this is true, looks like the rMini will be the first victim of the iPhone 6+. Apple is known to prefer cannibalizing its own than let a competitor do it for them.

This will be the first year for me not to buy any iPad.. iPhone 6 plus has truly killed the iPad mini.

CAN'T WAIT TO USE APPLE PAY WITH MY IPAD AIR

Unlikely to happen given that they didn't put passbook on the iPad with iOS 7 and still haven't with iOS 8. Which I can kind of understand since pulling out either tablet to scan anything is rather obnoxious. Perhaps when the Apple Watch is out that will change. Same with Health

That would be disappointing. Hopefully it is wrong like the rumors of the 6 and 6+ being launched differently.

yeah gonna take a lot for me to upgrade from my iPad air. only reason i upgraded from my iPad 2 to the air was for the retina screen.

better be something big beside a spec bump… even if it have the curved glass and rounded edge like the 6… just won't be enough for me.

apple watch! now that's a whole different story

Regularly wishing my air was as easy to handle as a mini I don't get the idea of a larger tablet? Is it going to be mounted or surface like? Can't really imagine it as a handheld

Please build in Touch ID this time Apple.

That is likely to happen given the extension of Touch ID to third party apps.

in fact I've noticed that when i've done a restart on my iPad even now it has the curious wording of 'iPad requires your passcode after restarting' which is basically the same thing the 5S said.

Looking forward to iPad Air 2. Buying the gf one, she needs it. She has iPad second generation, upgrade needed.

I think these will sell well over the holidays.

I remember the last year's iPad rumor said that Touch ID would be present too. Maybe they decided to delay that for whatever reason.

• They can show off Yosemite and announce a launch date

Already shown off. No need to do it again. Just a mention perhaps that its launching X date.

• Can reveal iOS 8.1 that may gain some new features that the iPad can take advantage of

perhaps but I can't think of anything at this point

• Announcement of the new MacBook Air
• Announcement of Retina iMac

maybe. or those might be silent releases, same as perhaps a new Mac Mini.

other things that could be mentioned would be changes to iTunes, a new Apple TV STB, new display (hopefully with HDMI)

There was no proof to back up last years rumor. Given that it was new tech it made sense to limit it to just the iPhone as a test run. Now that most of the kinks are gone they have no reason not to push it out.

It still sends me to the rest room to do No. 2, when I ponder that Apple removed anti-glare screens from its entire range. Only about a year ago, the last remaining product to have an anti-gare, paid extra option was the MacBook Pro 15" - and they cut that too.

So Apple think most of us LOVE glare? No, we buy Apple products because the overall sum total of their features are good - but many of us HATE glare.

So now, Apple brings back an anti-glare for the iPad - and they have the temerity, or bloody-minded nerve to think they're bringing in a positive feature for the iPad, when they've deleted it from everywhere else that people are asking for anti-glare screens?

No one is saying EVERYONE wants an anti-glare screen for Macs and iPads, but some of us do. In fact, anti-glare screens are more needed for Macs since they're harder to orientate to see past the glare - whereas iPhone and iPads in the hand can readily be oriented to compensate for glare. It's in Macs that anti-glare screens are needed.

I really have to push this No. 2 out.

If this post is too foul for you, then you've captured a sense of how I feel about Apple on this point.

Never owned an iPad before. This is a day one purchase for me no question. There's this multi touch ebook that I'm learning a lot from, but I only have an iMac so something portable would help me a ton.

No way is Apple going to hold a keynote to update the Air with A8 and Touch ID. So either there's some updates coming to Macs/Apple TV or we're not getting another keynote this year.

it was a joke. how dumb is it to reach for and scan your giant tablet.

I'll just wait for the bearded one to chime in with a yep or a nope regarding this rumor.
