I have ocd and every little imperfection in a product drives me nuts. Dust, uneven backlit screen etc, etc. call me crazy but I kinda like the feel of the sound on the air 2. It jut feels solid and alive. Like a little sub woofer but the sound is clear and clean.

I'm like you. When I do use my iPad 3 speaker, I like the feel. As long as it isn't floping back and forth, I don't mind it.

Agreed, I never listen to the iPad speakers. Not sure why anyone would? They all suck. Headphones all the way.

Even if you are playing a movie or listening to music, what are the chances you're holding the screen the entire time? I have an Air 1 and usually it's propped up when listening or watching extended content.

I could see how it could be annoying during gaming though..unless you think of it as a vibrating controller haha.

Here's starting the countdown to the first iMassage app...
»place the iPad gently on your back..«

anyway, having used it for 2-3 days now, this is def. not an issue for me. (headphones all the way, especially with music). But I can see how this can turn out annoying, kinda like holding a mini-subwoofer in your hand over a longer period of time.

Ok, read all the comments and checked it out on my pad.

Yes, by god it does vibrate. LOLZ.

Apple put some decent speakers into this bad boy. Everything is AWESOME!

I noticed the vibration too. As someone already pointed out, it's simply the price of thinness. It may or may not annoy people. Me? I've already gotten used to it and feeling the bass isn't a bad thing IMO. I still think this is the best iPad Apple has made thus far. Love how uber thin this thing is!

Do you hear the vibration if placed flat on a hard surface? Or when sitting upright on a smart cover????

I'm nobody's fanboy, but I do like the Air 2 more than my Air 1. They're both Space Grey, but I know I'm using the Air when pages take time to reload. I wasn't expecting a ton of difference, but that is big.

There's nothing wrong with a speaker having resonance. There's nothing special about the Air 2 being more resonant than the Air. It just is, but the Air has a resonate chassis as well. You won't escape that with either of these devices. I tend to stream movies and music to a TV or Bluetooth device. I only use the iPad's speakers for quick news videos, so while, it existed on my Air 1, it was something I never noticed. My wife uses the speakers on her Air to listen to music in the office. I've the resonance caused either tablet to vibrate on a desktop, then it would be an issue for me. It doesn't, so it isn't. ;)

I think this downplays the difference quite a lot. I never noticed vibration on my air 1, but it is immediately apparent on the air 2. At 50% volume the entire back is vibrating (the bottom a lot) and it is very noticeable through the screen as well. Not so bad if you're just resting it on your leg or on the smart cover stand it's fine, but it can get unpleasant if you are holding it. If you're playing a game where you have to press the screen continuously you can clearly feel it through the screen too.

Even at low volume (2-3 bars) it can be noticeable

I'm surprised nobody has done a video with something on the screen/back to show the vibration - like a cup of water Jurassic Park style or some polystyrene beads

Hello. New iPad Air 2 owner here. And I am also someone who rarely visits this forum. (Meaning I am what you'd call an average Joe user).

Coming from the iPad 3, this thing is fast. Fast fast fast. And the display is absolutely gorgeous. No display problems here at all.

But the sound.. Is... A.... PROBLEM! It's extreme. And it's extreme even at two bars while playing Hearthstone. Not even playing music. When the pretty little hearthstone theme plays, there are no vibrations, but when the bass kicks in the whole thing vibrates. Front and back. At just two bars. Did you get that? Two bars.

I always thought those complaining had this thing cranked at least half way.

The good news is that the vibration only happens when there is Bass. Treble or even midrange tones are okay.

I don't care to wear earphones. Or headphones. I don't like the way they feel. They distract me from the immersion of watching TV and movies. That's just how I am.

This will be what you guys call a #gate. No doubt about it. I only pray they introduce a bass reduced setting outside just the music app or there will be backlash.

I'll keep the iPad. But it is truly shocking this made it to production.

They did. It was posted earlier in the thread.

I downloaded a free equalizer from the app store and I was able to dampen some of the vibration. I may splurge on a paid one.

There is a Jurassic Park glass of water video on YouTube. It's not very dramatic, and the dinosaurs never appear. I think the person used a glass that was too heavy, and could have made his point better with a clear plastic cup.

There must be some sort of tool to measure small vibrations. One of the most sensitive tools is a human fingertip, and it seems some people here have more sensitive tips than others. Just for the sake of being on the same page as the people who don't like this, I'm typing this post with Hall & Oates Abandoned Luncheonette playing through the speakers. I can feel a slight sensation on the keyboard, but I usually don't play music while typing. I honestly don't remember typing and playing music on thenAir 1, and I gave that tablet to my son last night...

I watched Lisa Gade's MobileTechReview YouTube video last night. She complained a little about the lack of a physical mute button, and no split screen nonsense. She played a racing game, but had the volume off. I then remembered she usually has the sound off while playing games. I didn't read her print review, but I will take a look.

Go to Settings, Sound, and then EQ. You'll find a Bass Reducer setting. ;)

I see a lot of people saying there are no indication of this in reviews. If you type in iPad air 2 vibration in Google you will see it is talked about in a lot of reviews.

That was how I found Lisa Gade's review, but didn't notice any of the other big names mentioning it.....

I have no doubt that it does vibrate

The screen distortion is the real problem.

Gizmag mentioned the vibration in their review. http://www.gizmag.com/ipad-air-2-review-initial/34376/

And this is what was said:
Speaking of vibration, the iPad Air 2 is so light that I feel sounds much more than I have on any previous iPad. Playing a game, my fingers felt every sound effect in a way that I'm not used to. I don't think it's distracting, but it is different from using older iPads.
