What the iPad Pro will hopefully be, but ONLY if it runs full OSX. Anything less and you can drop the "Pro"

It's basically an emerging form factor tablet/laptop hybrid that everyone but Apple is currently cashing in on...

I'm doubting we'll be seeing OS X (at least in the current incarnation) on anything with Touch. Put your finger over some of the controls -- they're just too small, it wasn't designed for it in mind, it would be tacked on at best.

Windows 8, same issue. Modern/Metro apps work great with Touch, but that requires a new "type" of app -- the thousands upon thousands of Desktop apps are lackluster with touch, short of scrolling a webpage. Novelty at best. I've had a SP, SP2, and SP3, and it's just not a wonderful experience. I wanted it to work, but I just couldn't come to terms with it. Just my opinion.

I could see Wacom stylus support and side-by-side apps coming for an "iPad Pro", but I don't think we'll be seeing OS X on an iPad form factor until they're ready to merge the platforms in some meaningful way.

----------

As for the actual topic, this announcement is about what I expected after the leaks over the past few months.

Thinner, lighter, bonded screen, upgraded internals, maintain battery life, add Touch ID. Did anyone really think we'd get something more for the 9.7" iPad model?

I'm not disappointed or feel it was a dull announcement -- I'm not jumping for joy either -- my expectations (based on the rumors) were simply met, so I'll be buying one.

Not every release of anything can completely redefine a product line. Apple typically goes years and years between groundbreaking products. They're not the only ones either, most products are iterative since everyone is getting into an annual release cadence.

No NFC in the iPad no additional pixels in the display. All we got was a gold color option.

Hmm can't say I've had the same experience - have the SP3, and it truly is a wonderful experience - a high spec laptop that that's ultra portable. And the desktop 'apps' aren't apps at all, these are full .exe programs, which work great. I actually prefer the desktop environment and can't stand the metro apps. What's great about the SP3 is that it lets you do both - be productive without being hamstrung by iOS and apps and ram, etc, and then combining that with the touch experience for browsing or annotating pdfs, or whatever.

Thanks so much for trying to sell the surface Pro 3 on an iPad forum and trashing iOS. Well I guess somebody needs to sell it. Microsoft certainly can't. :)

lol it was a joke mark.

regardless the extra screen real-estate is going to be great for businesses generally

much more data to show, without the need of zooming in.

i don't think it should be a full OSX, a bit if a hybrid of OSX and iOS

with touch features and app splitting for multi tasking.

as Stu Lantz says it, that'll be NOOOIIIICEEE (only LA guys would get that lol)

I had high hopes with the original iPad that it would be a device I could actually do work on (graphic design). I'm afraid that all I've done with an iPad is play games, read stuff, and order stuff on Amazon. Even Adobe's new apps are just too limited to actually be worth using.

I hate to say it, but I hope Apple copies Microsoft here and comes up with a tablet product that runs full OSX. I've come to realize that's all I really want.
