I seem to be the only one who doesn't want a thicker or heavier iPad. My iPad Air 2 is amazing the way it is. I would even like it to be a tad thinner and lighter. The speaker vibration doesn't bother me. I also get about the same battery life on my iPad Air 2 as my old iPad 3. Standby time isn't quite as good since the battery on the 3 is like twice the size of the Air 2, but I don't let my iPad sit for weeks at a time anyway.

Maybe it would be good for Apple to maintain the iPad Air and the iPad Pro 9.7 inch. The iPad Air could continue with the thinness and the Pro (mini) could prioritise battery, features etc over thinness thus meeting both needs :). I'm very used to getting around 18 hours of use out of my iPad 2, and I'm fairly certain I couldn't get that on the Air 2, and at the same time, I find the iPad 2 thin enough. In all honesty I'd kill for the (impossible) ability to shove an A9X and 4GB of ram inside my iPad 2 and continue using it for another 5 years so I guess my needs differ to others :D

+1 count me in the same league ! Ditto want of what you said !

I'm sure there are some cases where 10 hours of use on a single charge isn't enough, but I'd guess for at least 99% of iPad users, 10 hours is more than enough. Unless you start using your iPad from the moment you wake up until you go to sleep, or you can't charge your iPad every night, 10 hours should last you an entire day. It's very rare that I ever drain the battery below 50%, and I'm almost always on my iPad while I'm at home.

I wouldn't mind having a separate Air 3 and a 9.7" Pro as long as they have the same processor and RAM. If Apple used a bigger battery for the Pro and added Pencil support, I couldn't care less for those features. I just wouldn't want to see Apple use a faster processor and add more RAM in the Pro, and give it software features that the Air wouldn't get.

Nobody is saying that they WANT the iPad to be thicker and heavier. What we're saying is that we won't mind the trade-off of it being thicker and/or heavier IF it resolves some of the issues that we're currently experiencing with the Air 2.

The iPad 3 didn't have good battery life to begin with. The iPad 4's battery life was insane. I regularly experienced 13-14 hours. 3 years later, the battery life is still excellent.

Correct me guys doesn't this guy not sound contradictory, first he says he does not mind if the the iPad Air-3 is heavier and bulkier if his requirements are met and now he is saying nobody is saying that we want the iPad to be thicker and heavier he himself said that on the second page ! And then he himself says this thread does not make sense to him from the beginning ! Does this guy not sound like a troll ! Correct me people if I am wrong !

consider yourself corrected. Perhaps English is not your first language. There is a difference between WANTING the iPad to be heavier and NOT MINDING if it is IF IT OFFERS some benefits.

So now that you find yourself on sticky ground, you start talking about who holds a Masters or Doctorate in the English literature from Oxford or Cambridge or maybe Harvard ! And who does not !!

I'd seriously think about upgrading from my iPad Air to the 3 if it were a bit heavier, The 2 felt way too slight in my hands when I first looked it over. I feel like I'm actually holding something with my Air.

I apologize that I am unable to adequately explain the differences of certain English phrases in a way that you are able to understand.

Another Troll !

iPad Air -2 is the best creation in terms of iPad that Apple has ever made ! Period ! It is just human testimony of Excellence ! It is a human marvel !

You misunderstand me. Just as you're not saying you want a thicker and heavier iPad, I'm also not saying I like having a smaller capacity battery.

But since a bigger battery would mean a thicker and heavier iPad, you want a thicker, heavier iPad as a result. And since I don't need more battery life, I do not want a thicker, heavier iPad.

No, he doesn't WANT a thicker heavier iPad, but if having more battery life means the iPad has to be thicker and heavier, he would be okay with it.

I mean, if we could have infinite battery life on a device that weighs as light as a piece of paper, I doubt any of us would complain. But since that is physically impossible, we all have our own opinion about where the right balance is between batery life and weight.

 You're still missing my point. Of course he would love a thinner iPad with a much bigger battery, but because that isn't possible with current battery tech, he does want a thicker and heavier iPad because that means he'll get the bigger battery he wants.

Again, I'm also not saying I wouldn't want a bigger battery if the iPad stayed as thin and light as it is. But because I don't want a thicker and heavier iPad, I don't want a bigger battery.

If you don't understand my point after this, then there's nothing else I can do for you.

Having said and discussed whatever we did so far....one thing that really stands out is, Apple can do anything that it wants but for gods sake do not take the charm away from the iPad Air-3 just like the charm exists for the the iPad Air-2 by it being one of thinnest and lightest iPad so far ! Do not take that charm away from the iPad Air-3 by making it thicker and heavier than the Air-2 !

I understand your point just fine.

I don't agree with it however.

I don't mind if it's thinner/thicker or heavier/lighter than the Air 2. So long as it's thinner and lighter than the original Air. I'd take function over form though. If they have to fatten it up to give us a better and longer lasting tablet then so be it.

Let's try a somewhat extreme analogy.

Say you have cancer. Chemotherapy will cure you, but it'll cause you to lose your hair. But you want to be cured, so you take the chemotherapy. Does that mean you want to lose your hair? No, you are just willing to accept an undesirable side effect to get something you want.

So extra thickness and heaviness is always an unwanted side effect, not something anyone would ever want.

I have both the Air 1 and 2 sitting in front of me. I can't tell the difference in thickness. If I hold them both at the same time, I can tell the Air1 is heavier, but if I was handed just one and told to say if it was the Air 1 or 2, I doubt I could tell.

I only have the original Air but I have handled an Air 2 and I notice how thin the device is right away. In terms of weight, I don't notice much of a difference. Personally I think the Pro is the perfect thickness at 6.9mm and so I would be happy if the Air 3 was the same as the Pro.

But seriously guys are you guys ok if the new iPad Air 3 will bring the much awaited pencil support (as if some people were gonna die without that !) If it brings pencil support but is slightly thicker than the iPad Air-2 ? Apple first and foremost should keep the form and weight in foreground and then think about new features around it not the other way around !

Millions of people were ok buying the original iPad Air which was alittle thicker and heavier Air 2. So I am pretty sure people will be ok if the Air 3 is alittle thicker and heavier than the Air 2. The Air 3 might be alittle thicker and heavier than the Air 2 but it will not be thicker or heavier than the original Air 1. If the Air 3 is the same thickness and weight as the original Air I would be totally fine with it, even if it doesn't have 3D Touch or pencil support. But if I had a choice between the 2 I would probably rather have 3D Touch.

Ok so first things first lets get this straight, what do you guys suggest I should I do in a situation like this, firstly I don't need a Pencil I mean don't foresee any such compelling need and use of the pencil. So if that is my situation. But having a new iPad announced obvious decision would be to go for what is available the latest not a generation behind, but if the iPad Air-3 is 0.05 MM thicker and 1 CM wider or whatever that is, than the iPad Air-2, so would you guys suggest should I take the iPad Air-2 ?? Or like the common sense suggests go for what is available as the latest ?

Dude, nobody can tell you what you should do. Only YOU can decide what you should do or what you want or what you should buy. Why do you keep asking people what you should do. Everybody is going to give you a different opinion and you are going to be going around in circles. This is a utterly useless post and should be closed.

That analogy doesn't really compare, because a thicker body is not a side effect of a bigger battery. You want a thicker body so that you can fit in a bigger battery. You don't want to lose your hair so that you can go get chemotherapy.

Besides, I'm not saying anyone wants a thicker iPad period. I'm saying you guys want a thicker iPad SO YOU CAN HAVE A BIGGER BATTERY. The caps part of that sentence is so crucial. You all are completely over-analyzing my original comment. How else would you have me word it? "I will not tolerate a thicker and heavier iPad." "I would despise a thicker and heavier iPad." Lol

I never owned the original Air, but I could also tell the difference from playing with the Air in store a few times to then owning an Air 2. The original Air felt almost hollow. The Air 2, being even thinner but almost the same weight felt perfect in my opinion.

Sorry, but he has gone above and beyond, in an attempt to make you understand, in a respectful way.

At this point, if anyone is a troll, it's you.

Above and beyond what ? He just has two posts in one post he is saying he doesn't mind if the iPad is thicker and heavier and in another he is saying nobody is saying iPad should be thicker....

As long as I'm getting 10+ hours SOT, I don't need or want a bigger, heavier, thicker battery. Phones are different, because they're already so small and light that a little thicker and heavier wouldn't make it feel too big or heavy, and they also don't get near iPad-level battery life as it is.

There were people who literally complained that the 6s was 0.2mm thicker and very slightly heavier than the 6.

So really it doesn't matter if they make anything thinner/lighter or thicker/heavier, there will ALWAYS be people who complain about it. Apple will do whatever they need to do to fit the tech they want to release inside the devices. Period. No complaints of "it's too thin" or "it's too thick" will ever sway that, because it's the technology inside the devices and the engineering to make it happen that dictate that.
