But I still think the iPad is rather impractical to tote around and pull out and use anywhere.

thats what your phone is for

who wants to carry around 2 devices that do basically the same thing?

do you carry around a digital camera too?

The biggest difference between the Mini retina and the Air for me is 80 quid in price! This is for the base models (16gb WiFi) and although I would prefer the Air, the price is significant for me to consider the Mini.

Ipad air is an upgrade for Ipad 1/2/3/4 people I dont know why there's so many posts from people with ipad mini who were maybe 'tempted' by the thinness of the ipad now yet still know 9.7 is too large for there needs to start a thread saying they can't wait for ipad mini retina.

This forum is FULL of these posts.

No kidding, lol. Apple has been making us crazy trying to choose. I've changed my mind a few times considering the slight pros and cons, and reading the forums have only contributed to the indecision.
But I've wanted the Air exclusively for a full day now, and expect that'll be what I stick with, unless there's anything untoward when it arrives . . .

Man, do I ever hear you. I even bought an Air on launch day only to return it the following Monday thinking maybe the rMini would be better in my small hands & purse. Did more reading on the forum, blogs, etc. Became even more confused. I've never owned an iPad. I've waited years to own one. These things aren't cheap and I want to get it right since I'll keep mine a couple years.

What helped me decide, was remembering the news leaks about the then referred to "iPad 5". The thinner bezel and the slightly smaller size had sold me to wait. It offered a smaller footprint yet more screen estate than the mini. Once I recalled this and went for another play at the Apple store, I realized the Air was the size for me.

i find it a very bad habit of this decade maybe, have ipad4(product x) and people asking (or doing) if they must 'upgrade' to the next years model.

i do believe that a lot of people that write such stuff on the net (not talking about you) are either paid by the companies or spoiled rats.
(samsung paying people in taiwan to write bad comments on other products)

if you traveled thousand of miles with your car and you plan to travel a lot in the next 10-20 years you must consider changing car often, other than that
wait your ipad gets slow at a point that you must change it (or it doesnt work anymore)

Terve - Well, since you appear to be from Finland, that's a pretty typical practical Finnish perspective and nothing wrong with it. We are a much more material bunch here in the States at least.

My wife is from Vaasa, just up the coast from you. We go back every couple years for a few weeks, and that's one of the things I love about spending time in Finland. People aren't as consumed with materiality and judging based on that and the pace of life is just so much more relaxed. Probably helps that I'm on vacation there as well.

Though to be fair in this case, the iPad Air is a pretty significant step-up at least in terms of physical form factor if not speed and whatnot. I mean the thing is the same thickness as a rMini now. That in and of itself is amazing.

Absolutely, because my camera takes much better pictures than my phone. I also have much more control. I feel the same way about an iPad from an iPhone.

Ordered an Air 128GB AT&T, handing down my iPad2 64GB AT&T to my wife. Between the Air and my iPhone5 I am good, no need for the miniR.

Now on the otherhand, a new MacBook Pro retina may be on the horizon.....

Just basic psychology - the mini users are annoyed that the Air is out now and they have to wait. Being the impulsive, gotta-have-the-newest-stuff-right-now people that they are, they are trying to convince themselves that waiting is okay by comparing their plight with others. In theory, if enough people reply in agreement with them, it will make the waiting easier/more justified.

However, this behavior manifests itself in a veiled attempt to belittle those who are buying or have already bought the Air. By doing this, they can convince themselves that the Air is a waste of money anyways, so OF COURSE they are going to wait for the mini.

I would say in 75% of these cases, the subject purchases the Air anyways and then returns to the forums to find reasons why not waiting was the right decision.

Had iPad 1,2,3 and then switched to mini and loved it even without the retina vs. the iPad 3 just because of the size. sold it about 2 weeks ago and got the Air to try but definitely returning and waiting for the mini 2 which would be perfect. Maybe tonight at midnight??!??!?!?!?

I did the same thing. Picked up the Air last Friday, but I'll be returning it, probably this weekend. I still have my mini to tie me over until rMini is out.

Damn you described that far too accurately - almost like you've been there done that!

I'm doing the same thing. Returning my air and using my mini until the mini R is out. The air is nice but after using the first mini for a year I'm hooked.

Traded in my iPad 1 32Gb for $200 and now waiting for the Mini.

I wasn't going to, but when I was offered $200 for my original iPad it was hard to pass up.

I'm patiently waiting for the iPad mini with Retina. The iPad Air is great and all, but I want the portability of the mini.

Not me. I have a mini with cellular and will hold unto it and now with the Air I feel I have a good combination.

Waiting waiting waiting here too.

Pretty stupid TBH, I have a mini 1 and whilst it will be a huge upgrade, its not like I can do anything with it that I don't already do, apart from maybe buy XCOM and not have it crash every few seconds.

Waiting for 12-13 inch ipad retina in June-2014 with A8 processor and 2gb ram.

Bought an Air and it is nice, but I just like the size of the mini better. So gave the Air to my wife and have gone back to my old mini until the new Retina Mini comes out (soon I hope).

Quite frankly, I don't see why the mini is regarded as soooooooo much more portable than the Air? It's a two inch smaller screen and slightly lighter. That's all. Won't fit into a pocket, won't fit into a jacket pocket and fits into a purse roughly the same as the Air.

IMO, losing two inches of screen is not worth this perceived extra portability.

But, to each their own.

that's why they make 2 models.

1 for a guy like you=air
1 for a guy like me=mini

I see people all the time carrying around a full size iPad in their purse and it looks outright ridiculous. Why not just bring your laptop with u then.

my wife brings her ipad mini everywhere..u don't even know she has it with her. Everyone else, their ipad is hanging out of the top of the purse. The best is when the full size iPad owners pull them out to take photos in public. Looks like they are holding a cookie sheet....

but hey, to each their own right?

sorry man, but on a device thats flat as a pancake, two inches is a lot.
