I ordered one of these. This lets you use the iPad on your lap without it breaking. Apple should be including this with every iPad. A must have for everyone.
I’m glad you found something you liked. 👍🏻. Personally, I use mine on my lap all the time fine without something like that, but to each their own. 👍🏻I ordered one of these. You could get that to work as a headband then you could walk around with it.I ordered one of these. This lets you use the iPad on your lap without it breaking. Apple should be including this with every iPad. A must have for everyone.

Will that usb-c port run the screen too?Awesome, I’m very glad to hear you found a solution. 🙂👍🏻
I can definitely recommend the Magic Keyboard Case. I really like the Aluminum palm rest on the new one. There is also a Logitech case that uses the Smart Connector pins on the back of the iPad as well, only the Logitech case is a bit more surface pro style with a kickstand and a fabric keyboard cover. I’ve heard great things about that one as well. 👍🏻. Though one advantage of the Magic Keyboard Case is that it adds an additional USB-C port for charging the iPad, freeing up the iPad’s own port for other things if needed. 🙂👍🏻
Unfortunately, the extra port on the Magic Keyboard case is only for charging, the Smart Connector pins on the back of the iPad don’t provide enough data lanes for data transfer and such. So it works for charging the iPad, but nothing else. In turn though, by using that port to charge the iPad, it does free up the iPad’s own native port for data transfer without having to necessarily use a hub with PD. I hope that’s helpful. 👍🏻Will that usb-c port run the screen too?
The Logitech looks a bit cumbersome.
Ok, guess handy when you travel, at home i just charge off the ASD when using it.Unfortunately, the extra port on the Magic Keyboard case is only for charging, the Smart Connector pins on the back of the iPad don’t provide enough data lanes for data transfer and such. I prefer to have a phone on my arm when I'm out jogging, but it's good there are alternatives.I ordered one of these. This lets you use the iPad on your lap without it breaking. Apple should be including this with every iPad. A must have for everyone.

Oh, and one other thing that may be helpful, I don’t know if you already know about this setting or not, but you can adjust where you want your iPad to be in relation to the extended display in Settings, and that will adjust which edges of displays the cursor moves. I don’t know if that description makes any sense or not. But it’s in Settings - Display & Brightness when the iPad is connected to the extended display, and it shows like one big rectangle (the monitor) and small one you can adjust position of (iPad). I recently realized that one of my friends who uses an iPad with extended display didn’t know about that setting, so just wanted to share that in case it’s helpful. 🙂👍🏻Ok, guess handy when you travel, at home i just charge off the ASD when using it.
One really good thing is when playing video on iPad plugged into ASD it uses the ASD speakers which are really good.
I could not fathom strapping an iPad to my leg. I have managed to use them for well over a decade without breaking one or having them fall off my lap so I'm glad I don't have to pay extra for something I'd never use. Got it - usually don't pay attention to people's posting history. The member is mocking people in the thread. Check his posting history. Any time there is an iPad thread, he shows up to put down and mock.
I figured as much, someone mentioned that before, but I figured I’d play along with it, and see where it went. And I’m glad he found something that works for him if he is being sincere. 🙂👍🏻The member is mocking people in the thread. Check his posting history. Oh, that’s no fun. Is it the Epson iPrint app that you tried? That’s the one I used to use, but I think Epson has a few different apps for their printers. Looking it up, they also have one called Epson DocumentScan, that may also be an option. I had an Epson printer as well and used the app for it and it worked for me, but was probably a different printer model. Now I have a Canon printer, so that’s a different thing. Hopefully you’re able to find a solution. 👍🏻. It may not be an ideal solution in all cases, but the iPad can scan documents with its built in camera, and it gets pretty great results with the M4 iPad Pro’s camera system. There’s a document scan option in the Files app in the 3-dot menu at the top of the sidebar. Hopefully that may be helpful if you can’t get the printer to connect via the app. 👍🏻Another issue, can’t scan with my printer to iPad, tried Epson app no go so far.
Too much mucking around, have ordered a mini M4 16/512gb and a Magic Keyboard case, best of both.Oh, that’s no fun. Is it the Epson iPrint app that you tried? I’m surprised Logitech hasn’t made a driver app for it for the iPad by now. iPadOS 16 introduced DriverKit, they’ve had plenty of time by now to bring their driver to the iPad and support the extra buttons and stuff. For me, by far the biggest thing that annoys me about using my iPad as a laptop replacement is using a mouse while surfing the web. The back/forward buttons on my Logitech mouse are not supported which is annoying but I can live with shortcut keys or just clicking the back button. By far the big annoyance is when you scroll to the bottom or top of a web page with the mouse and there is the looooonnnnnggg exaggerated bounce effect that can literally take seconds to complete depending on how fast you are scrolling with the wheel. The bounce using the trackpad on my MKB is very short and on my Mac is non-existent. I REALLY wish there was a setting to turn this effect off.
I’m glad to hear that it’s working out well for you with the Magic Keyboard case! 👍🏻. Like I said, the new Magic Keyboard Case is one of my favorite parts of my upgrade from the M1 to the M4, aside from obviously the iPad itself and the nicer display, faster performance, etc. 👍🏻.iPad is great with the Magic Keyboard case alone, not so much with a display.
So my take on the original question, it can replace a laptop if you have another Mac, or are a very very very basic user.

I’m not really sure I know what you’re talking about with a bounce effect. I’ve never noticed anything bouncing on a page when I scroll. Are you talking about scrolling up beyond the top of the page to refresh it? That’s the only thing I can think of there. And I believe you can switch that off in Settings if I recall correctly. 👍🏻
Ok, I’ll have to try it with a mouse, I usually use the trackpad on my MKC, or the touch screen for scrolling. I do have a generic Bluetooth mouse at my desk though, so should be able to hook it up and test that out sometime. 👍🏻. I’ll report back on if I encounter the same or not. 👍🏻The same thing happens at the bottom or top of any page.
If you have a mouse with a scroll wheel, scroll to the bottom of any web page and the page goes halfway up the screen and then snaps back to the bottom. If you do the same on the trackpad you get a little tiny bounce. If you do the same on a Mac, you get no bounce at all. Couldn't find any setting to change anything for it.
Epson iPrint works for me as well! I think I tried a different Epson app first once and it did not work at all so they should get their act together there.Oh, that’s no fun. Ok, plugged in at my desk and tested it, and noticed it has a slight “bounce” if you keep scrolling past the bottom or top of the page. It should be noted though, the reason it does this at the top is for easily refreshing a page like the swipe gesture does. I think it “bounced” maybe a quarter inch or so beyond the bottom of the page on my 27” monitor? I guess I’ve never noticed that was any different, and it doesn’t bother me… 🤷🏼♂️.The same thing happens at the bottom or top of any page.

Mine bounces about 4 to 5 inches on my 32" monitor, pauses for about 2 seconds and then snaps back. Really hard to use so I use the trackpad, which for my uses is much slower. Fix this and simultaneous audio and I'd be a happy camper.Ok, plugged in at my desk and tested it, and noticed it has a slight “bounce” if you keep scrolling past the bottom or top of the page.
