I agree having access to the shortcuts on the MX Master mouses would be nice, but it’s the scrolling for me on the iPad (too choppy). I refuse to use any 3rd party mouses because of it.
I forget, I may have already told you about this, so sorry if I did and forgot, but I think I recall there being an accessibility setting for scroll sensitivity on an external mouse. I don’t know if that would help or not, but figured it might be helpful to you. 🙂👍🏻

But yeah, I definitely prefer trackpad over mouse. 👍🏻

Are you using an Apple mouse or a trackpad?
I don’t know about @Ludatyk but I use the Magic Trackpad 3 (black) when I use my iPad Pro in a desktop configuration. I tried the magic mouse, and the Logitech MX Anywhere 3 mouse, and I just can’t use a mouse with my iPad. The trackpad just feels natural controlling a touch device with all the touch gestures intact. For mobile use, I use the Logitech Combo Touch keyboard case.

It took a while, but I’ve now read everything. Last week, I finally decided to go ahead and treat myself to a new iPad Air M4 for my birthday. I switched from my 11-inch M2 iPad Pro with 1TB of storage and 5G to the 13-inch M4 iPad Air with 256GB of storage and 5G (and the Magic Keyboard). I just couldn’t keep convincing myself that I actually needed the Pro anymore, especially considering the price difference. At the time, I had chosen the 1TB model because I was playing Warzone and the 16GB of RAM seemed useful. But given the way I use my iPad now, there’s really nothing about the Pro that justifies the extra cost.

I try to use my iPad for work every now and again, especially when travelling, as an 11" iPad Air+Magic Keyboard case fits a lot better than a 13" Macbook on those tiny tray tables on UK trains.

My work demands aren't high - Microsoft 365 apps and Safari. However, I often feel like I'm fighting the OS. Whereas the finder on macOS feels like a container that everything sits in, the files app on iPadOS feels separate, as do all the other apps on an iPad. This could well be not being fully used to iPadOS, however.

The other grumble is the apps - often their phone origins let them down, as I need to use a Mac to get features that aren’t there on the iPad equivalents. Not having a histogram in Photos is a pain, for example, in an app that should be front and centre on an iPad.

Still, I hope Apple get there with the iPad. It’s going to be interesting when my current M2 iPad Air and M2 MacBook Air aren’t supported, to see which direction I go.

My wife does the heavy lifting on her IPP m1 with a Magic Keyboard. The M365 apps are installed, but they are missing some desktop features. So at times a proper full featured operating system is needed. Her trusty windows laptop is slowing dying, so we bought the Neo. It’s a paradigm shift from windows but the Neo hits that sweet spot of price and value.

If I wanted a 13” device, maybe. Too bad there’s nothing 11” iPad-sized with MacOS.

Yep, it's a shame because as we know, the 11" MacBook Air and 12" MacBook used to be exactly that.

That's why I keep wishing my 11" iPad Pro could just run macOS - not because I want to ruin the iPad for everyone else, but because this iPad is simply a great form factor for a Mac and Apple offers nothing else like it.

i took my Ipad mini 6 that i got since release, reinstalled it and now its my main device, next year i will purchase the new version of the Neo.

So far, very acceptable for studying and typing documents with a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard.
This 5 year old ipad with only 4GB RAM is still usable for my use case.

Also bonus the ultimate travel/bike travel setup.

Since the new updates, i may actually reconsider getting a Neo2 next year and get a new ipad to replace my by then 6 year old ipad 6 mini.

For my use cases and my attempt to limit spending hours watching youtube/gaming/or doing other nonsense that i would do on a laptop by using the more stripped down ipad experience, it allows me perfectly fine to do all my language study related stuff.

Edit: I looked into the Ipad A16 + Mini 7 and it seems my 5 year old Mini 6 is still very capable with near identical screen quality, thats crazy! almost no major improvements at all. A15>

A16 marginal performance improvements.

I also concluded that a future Mini will replace my mini 6.
The form factor and low weight plays a major role.

Next mini will be with cellular for increased mobility/connectivity.

I’m very happy with how my iPad Pro works when plugged into my monitor. I bought a switcher keyboard and mouse to move from my work laptop to my iPad.

Works fine for my use, though I miss being able to back click with my right mouse button. Getting used to it.

It’s a good set up until next year when I’ll probably want a Mac when I retire

One thing that i still hate about the Ipad is that there is no way to have multiple user profiles.

I would love to have one for my kids so they can play some ipad games and some and a profile for myself.

This is the only reason why i may move over to a Neo 2 next year when my Ipad mini 6 is getting 6 year old and the 4GB of RAM/battery degradation start to become a real problem.

I know it isn’t a perfect replacement for multiple user profiles, but one thing you could do is set up a focus mode with a custom Home Screen that has apps you want for your kids. And you can password protect apps, so you could password protect apps you don’t want kids to open. Like I said, it isn’t perfect, but that may be helpful for you. I do agree, it would be nice for some to have multiple user profiles. I personally don’t need it, but I understand why others would like it. 👍🏻

Not having looked at it, but maybe you could even set it up with automations to switch users and have it need a password per user…

I have a 13" MBA M2 and I love it for the size weight. (I also have a 16 MBP) so comparing the to are night and day when it comes to size. In the summers I'm a director at a travel camp and usually carry my MacBook Air so I can do computer work but its "big" and I feel ridiculous taking it out a zoos or theme parks etc to get some work done. I was thinking of an Ipad Pro 11" (I'm a sucker for the screen) and either the magic keyboard or the ESR version. Would I notice the weight savings and size.....

I think you probably would. I’d say try it out and see what you think. 🙂👍🏻

The 11” with the MKB is heavier than you’d think but it is very quick to pull out, do something, and put away again. It also fits in some pretty inconspicuous bags compared to even the 13” MBA so you’re not lugging a backpack around. This isn’t exactly the one I use but it’s from the same company and is the same size:

Do not. iPad is not a replacement for mac. Your workflow will be constantly hindered by iPadOS in which even simple operations with files require mutilple clicks, touches and whatever else.

I don't agree with this at all. The files managment in iPadOS 26 is very similar to a mac now. So if he has to do multiple clicks, touches etc on the iPad, he would do the same thing on the Mac.

Be careful, you do not speak for everyone. I use an iPad exclusively now, and don’t have the issues you describe here. In fact, I don’t have any issues at all. It’s a little different, but that doesn’t make it worse than Mac and I find it better in some ways.

Majority of users know that iPadOS is not for professional work in any way or quality except maybe for reading PDFs or replying emails. If that OS is fine for you, ok no problems. And yes, if you don't think so, watch any Youtube review of iPadOS by people who tried to do some work on it. Most recognize its limitations very, very well.

Speaking of which, I just plugged my iPad into my dock and I am typing this via my logitech touchpad keyboard on one of my 2 displays. It works fine, but where it's not offically supported for some dumb reason, it does not fill out my entire display.

There are also may YouTubers who DO use the iPad as their only device for professional work. Just remember Youtube feeds you what you look for and watch. So probably you are only getting the negative videos because thats the first couple you watched.

We are not all the same. For that reason, you can’t throw a blanket over us all and tell us what works and what doesn’t. As far as YouTube, it’s so diluted with wanna be’s, pretenders, and idiocy that it has lost all credibility.

The iPad isn’t for everyone, but it will work fine for many.

Exactly. Not one thing that is sold today is for everybody except probably water, and that's available for free. I use windows mostly, I do have apple products, but I prefer my windows environment, as does my wife. We have tried Apple Pc's on 3 previous occassions and moved back to windows and lost money on our apple stuff.

I do have an iPad 10th gen which I use to read magazines, books and general tomfoolery on. My son has an iPad 9th gen that he uses for hours per day. We are platform agnostic here. I even have linux systems.

Everyone is different and I know alot of people who are iPad only in both personal and professional settings. Horses for courses.
