Don't pick up a Netbook...

Those who think the iPad feels heavy need to steer clear of the grossly overweight Netbooks. Most are between 2 & 3 lbs. with the majority over 2.5 lbs. Im surprised they are even considered portable. LOL. And lets not even start with the Macbook Air, what a PIG, 3 POUNDS. What was Apple thinking, no one could carry that much bulk & weight around on a regular basis.

You dont use a netbook by holding it with one hand and the other hand to touch it.

The iPad weighs the same as a McDonald's Quarter Pounder and large coke. Most Americans have no problem lifting that... Maybe the iPad will be good for you.
:p

That's SOME math you got there! I hope you're not in a financial line of work :eek::eek::eek:

One 1/4 lb burger + one 21oz soda = 1.6 POUNDS??? On second thought, that soda is pretty heavy.. it might tip the scales alone if you hold both in your hands at the same time. But the weight goes down as you eat it.. :p

BACK TO TOPIC... I was surprised how much heavier the iPad actually is. When I played with a few at the Apple Store, my closest reference point is the Kindle, and I noticed a considerable difference. I'll get used to it, not a big deal...

You're something. First you critize/ question him about he's weighing methods. How do you determine the weight of your "benchmark" hardcover "regular" book? You check the shipping weight on amazon and guess the weight. Fail.

Second, you type all this up and claim he has posted misinformation only to give us ANOTHER great example of a book that weighs more than the iPad.

As Ace Ventura would say "LLLLLoOOOOOSsSSEE--RRR"

OK, I give up. You are living proof that there is no shortage of morons on internet forums. Enjoy your complete lack of reading comprehension. I'm sure it has and will continue to serve your well in life Ace.

We went through this two pages ago...
Yes. 4 oz + 20 oz = 24 oz = 1.5 lbs.

I don't own an iPad but I visited the store the other day and after playing with the device for about 20mins. I got the feeling that it was a little heavy on the hand. I say hand as I was holding it with one hand and using the other hand to swipe/type.

I guess if your at home you could have the iPad rested on your leg or whatever which would take some of the weight.

I suppose the 3G version will add a little more weight, though not much. I'll be getting one when they are available so will know more then.

I don't really find it "too heavy" however without a case on it, to provide a bit better grip, it can be tricky to hold it with one hand "naked" (the iPad not me...:p). I tried it with the Apple case and found it much easier to grip, which as I was able to relax my grip it became much easier to hold and less fear of dropping it. I hate pretty much every case I've tried for my iPhone but am actually impressed with the Apple case for the iPad. I don't think it weighs but a few ounces and really adds some benefits to the device. Still not heavy though :)

yeah, maybe the lack of a good grip from a naked ipad makes it feel heavy. i might try the apple case.

I thought the iPad was heavy as well, that was before I started working out.

Now it feels paper thin.. I swear I came in my room once and seen it floating by its self!

you resurrected a thread from a year ago and this is the best you can do comment wise? sad

This thread was actually necro'd by an advertising post which luckily got removed. Most likely the user above saw the thread and posted in it when that happened. Not really their fault...

Now you know how he feels:

iPad 2 is lighter and thinner with flat back! gives a good grip and easier to grab! hell yeah! :D

I would think the curved back of the original iPad 1 is better contoured for holding it in your hand as opposed to a flat back. That aside, the savings in weight will definitely be more user friendly in comfort than the change in aesthetics, even if it is a measly .2 lbs. I think the iPad 2 will be that much more awesome to hold now that its lighter. I hope Apple one day can hit the 1 lb threshold.
