Dear Lord, I hope the Verizon iPhone is next. I want these stupid Vzn/iP4 rumors to finally see their end and I want all these whiners and complainers off of AT&T.

...and watch the whiners shift over to Verizon after all the new iPhone 4's reduce Verizon's vaunted "most reliable network" to sludge.

Verizon fans are excited why?

I don't know why anyone would by a Wi-Fi only iPad bundled with a separate broadband device for the same price as a fully integrated iPad? The ATT version has GPS built in. The Wi-Fi only does not, so you are losing a major iPad hardware capability for the same price. Plus, you of course have to bring the extra device with its own battery limits and you need an additional charger.

People have good reason I guess not to want AT&T voice, but I'm sorry, I have yet to have a "dropped call" on my iPad. It's just data. And Verizon will charge $20 per GB of data, with AT&T charging $12.50 per GB (25GB for $25). That is 60% more for the data plan. I guess if you hate AT&T that much, knock yourself out and pay the same for lesser hardware and considerably more for data.

Hahahaha...as if Verizon won't be much better prepared than AT&T. They already handle more data than AT&T. There are stories out that they are already working with Apple to prepare their network for a migration of users.

Verizon has earned the reputation they have for a reason. There's no reason to think they wouldn't plan ahead for the iPhone. To be fair, AT&T probably didn't realize the iPhone would be such a hit.

What kind of sucker would buy an iPad in a Verizon store with MiFi? You don't even need a contract with AT&T to use the 3G iPad on AT&T. And there is sure to be a Verizon 3G version of the iPad in a few months.

I understand Verizon's motivation. They want revenue from iPad sales and data fees. And I understand Apple's motivation. Putting iPads in Verizon stores will stir up huge interest in a Verizon-branded CDMA 3G iPad.

And let's not forget all those strong Verizon iPhone rumors. Just bringing an iPad into Verizon stores will cut into Android handset sales. Verizon is the protected enclave of Verizon handsets (in the US anyway), but Apple has blasted the first cannonball through the castle wall.

But really. Why would you buy an iPad with a MiFi device? Maybe because you get terrible AT&T reception at home and you don't have wi-fi. Or maybe because you get terrible AT&T reception wherever you would want to use your iPad outside your home. And you're also too stupid to realize that a Verizon iPad is just around the corner.

So let's hear it, Verizon apologists. Why should anyone buy a wi-fi iPad with a MiFi?

not cdma ipad but a LTE ipad

It is starting to feel like they've got to move the "old" inventory fast for the holiday season

Looks more like they want to saturate the market before any competitors can get any position & traction. Everyone has heard of the iPad; when they walk into their favorite electronics retailer (be it Apple, Best Buy, Wal Mart, Verizon, wherever) the only real guidance they'll have in deciding which featureless black slab to buy is the brand name - and with Apple iPad being dominant in the public's mind, people will buy it IF IT IS THERE. If our favorite tablet isn't there, they'll buy something else, and making the transition later will be difficult. Market saturation is critical for Apple at this point.

While not a majority of users will want it, I can see a few wanting it to be able to connect multiple devices. But again, this is most likely a minority.

Apple can saturate all they want. I will still wait for Version 3 of the iPad, which is probably what it will take for Apple to get it just right.

1gb for Verizon. What a crappy data plan.

Or a great one considering $60 for 5GB per month is out of my budget.
I need a Verizon Data plan for the time I'm at work where the ONLY carrier that gets through is Verizon. I don't consume outrageous amounts of data and I have no need to download huge movies over that network, just surf and get email.

If I can get the plan with no contract and without the iPad(I have one already), I'm in immediately. If I can't, I'll wait until next year and buy whatever the new iPad is through them with the MiFi. With the iPad, I might even consider buying to sell the iPad to my friend. $130 for a mifi with no strings attached is a good deal right now.

No contract is a big deal for me because I don't want to be stuck on 3G when they roll over to next generation data infrastructure.

Huh? Where did you get the data about Verizon handling more data than AT&T? Was it the highly disputed report by ABI? It doesn't even make sense. Last year 65% of ALL mobile browsing, including data cards for laptops, was done on the iPhone OS. That is a fact. So, by definition, 65% of all mobile browsing was done on AT&T's network.

Here is a good link on mobile browsing.

And here is one (of many) one size of the carriers.

If anything, they are close, and very similar in size. But to suggest that they handle more data than AT&T fails logic (and AT&T has a reported 5,000 % increase in the three years since the iPhone was introduced.)

Clearly Verizon plans to curb the problem by offering less data for more more money too. 1GB for $20 versus 2GB for $25 at AT&T - is a 60% premium by Verizon. (not the offerings of a company with a lot of data "headroom") I suppose you must think that is better too.

Just a heads up... if you live in or around a big US city, and are thinking about getting the iPad + Verizon MiFi, consider 4G WiMax instead.

Sprint/Clear offer the same thing as the MiFi, but 4G instead of 3G.

Clear iSpot mobile hotspot- $99
Unlimited Data- $25/month. No contract.
6Mbps download cap, 1Mbps upload cap

Personally I find this to be a much better deal than AT&T and Verizons offerings.

Nobody uses Sprint.

Your source? If it is that ABI Report, that has been discredited by just about everyone except you. AT&T pushes more data than anyone else....they alone account for more than half the data usage in the US (despite Verizon being "bigger" and the presence of other competitors like T-Mobile, Sprint, etc). Even the other carriers don't' dispute that.

Verizon's network has yet to be tested. Since it is slower than AT&T's (and T-Mobile's and Sprint's), it will be interesting to see how many (or few) iPhones suck up all that slower bandwidth.

To get unlimited data on a verizon phone it only costs $30. I pay $30 for UNLIMITED data as well as the ability to turn my palm pre into a mobile hotspot (MiFi device), so if I bought an iPad today, I'd have 5GB access (maximum allowable for tethering usage) to Verizon internet on it for $30 dollars. My guess is that people will tell Verizon to **** themselves with their "iPad" MiFi device (you can use any ****ing MiFi device to tether your iPad, Verizon isn't doing anything new here) and use their smart phones to tether. That way you're only carrying 2 devices instead of 3. Only an idiot would pay $20 for one gig.

I am thoroughly confused by this new agreement between Apple and Verizon, are they trying to get stupid people to believe that Apple is now finally making Verizon iPads? The only "new" thing about the iPad is that Verizon is selling it in their stores now. Same damn iPad, same god damn MiFi transceiver. My guess is they want stupid people who were waiting for a verizon iPad to buy up the old ones before releasing a legit CDMA iPad.

250mb or 1GB is nothing if you use your iPad to look at image laden websites or view videos on it, especially if you want to view HD video. It's just no good for media-based browsing or downloading. While I haven't ever gone past the 5GB monthly limit for mobile hotspot, i easily surpass the 1, 2, and 3 GB marks; and I don't even use mobile hotspot that heavily.

Without doing any video I blew thru AT&T's $15/250MB limit in two days flat.

My point exactly. To expect even just the average internet user to rely on 250MB per month is insane, and even more insane to expect people to pay $15 for 1-7 days worth of internet usage.

Sorry, they haven't earned that reputation, they have bought it through a massively effective marketing campaign. I have spent the last 8 years of my life working all over the country everywhere from the biggest cities to the most remote areas we have. I had Verizon for 6 of those years, and have been on AT&T for the last two. In general, AT&T's service is no worse than Verizon's, and in many places it is better. In fact, over the last year or so I can think of approximately 10 instances where I had good coverage with AT&T and my co-workers had nothing with Verizon. I have not had ONE instance of the reverse.

Maybe people would like to actually have a service that's works reliably indoors. ;)
WiMax has the worst building penetration of them all.
Runs in the 2.3 Ghz range.
I love watching all those EVO owners try and show off their 4G connection while in our office building. They have to go near a window to get a signal.

Precisely. They will succeed. Take for example, todays event of Steve giving free iPads to the rescued miners in Spain. It was on every network on the planet for the most part.

Let's see iPad sales for the remainder of the month compared to the first 13 days.

The assimilation is unstoppable, and rightly so. :apple:

Step 1: Verizon sells iPads 10/28,
step 2: Verizon sell iPhones pre-orders on Black Friday 11/26 with delivery Wed Jan 5th 2011.
