With the new Kindles, I question the wisdom of a non-Retina iPad mini. The larger version is Retina quality, and the smaller phone is Retina quality. Why not adopt it across your entire portable line. It would seem to make more sense.

I have a feeling Apple is going the Retina route for all new devices now...

That photo (if the parts are real) clearly shows the iPad Mini will have narrower bezels on the side than on the top and bottom, also assuming the screen is the same aspect ratio (which it should be at 1024x768).

Still look stupid

Yep, the longer form factor for the iPhone 5 is still look stupid and ugly.

Well, because it's a lot more expensive to produce Retina displays, limiting the amount Apple can discount and still maintain margins, and you'll get much lower yields, which could lead to supply problems. This is probably even more true once they start using IGZO screen tech.

These iPad Mini rumors are all too similar to the tear drop iPhone 5 cases last year

This is going to be an exciting two months. After holding the iPad Mini cases, I can tell you it is really a great size. Apple is going to sell a ton. I'd love to see it get announced on Wednesday, but I'm sure we'll have to wait for another event.

The iPhone 5 case is unusually tall. Might be due to perspective, but still.. It looks awkward compared to 4S

Care to elaborate?

Were the 4 and 4S ugly?

Nope they were beautiful. But could be different if it's just taller.
Not to mention I don't like the new speaker/mic grills design leaks, looks cheap and terrible. It looks awesome on 4 or 4s.

With that said, we'll see the real deal tomorrow.

Its the size of a DVD case

Put a dvd case over your iPad and compare it to the article photo. Thats the size of it.

A longer, stretched out iPhone 5 is not going to be attractive. It just isn't. I know that I won't even consider buying one. I would just wait two years until the iPhone 6 to see what the hardware looks like then. I just bought a factory unlocked 4S that I will be perfectly content keeping for two years.

If there is no retina display on the iPad mini then it's a no go for me. I would have to get the rumored updated iPad 3.

I'm sure everyone will get used to the look. One day people will probably think that the 4S looked short. For a .5" increase in screen size they've done a decent job of not increasing the length by a large amount.

Well, we can add "Case-makers will be totally screwed!" to the list of what would happen if these leaks were all fakes set up by Apple...

...unless the case-makers are controlled by Apple. You see, at that point, you're at the Ron Paul level. Everyone is out to get you, and everything is a lie. You know Coca Cola and Pepsi? They're the same company. It's a monopoly. You can't trust anyone, not even me.

Maybe for the sake of having a low-end model? Remember that Apple still sells the iPad 2 as a low-end iPad. I'll bet they're going to make a retina iPad mini, get people excited about that, then sell the old one as a low-end model.

People say that there is no low-end Mac, but there is. It's called buying an old one off eBay. My low-end Mac Pro cost me the same as the weakest new MacBook Air, and it has 8 cores clocked at a nice 2.8GHz each. :D

Every time I see a leaked picture of an iPhone 5 I get disappointed and disappointed, I really hope the i5 looks nothing like all those leaked photos.... that would be just awful

I think the elongated iPhone 4(S), also know as iPhone 5, doesn't seem right. :(

Fire who ever came out with iPhone 5 design. What would be the point in stretching it. That's because people buy whatever they are selling and they don't care what consumer wants.

How would an iPad mini at 1024 x 768 compare to a 7" Kindle HD at 1200 x 800?
Negligible or noticable?

I think the crispness of the text will be terrible noticeable, but it depends on if you compare it to other devices such as the iPad 3, Nexus 7, Kindle Fire HD.

I will not buy the iPad Mini if its not a retina display or at least higher resolution than the iPad 2. Apple like Google and Amazon may need to take a little hit on this particular model, but to put a crappy display on it is just lame. I bought the Nexus 7 because of the size and totally love it. But the Nexus 7 has 1280 x 800 display and while not retina is very good quality with crisp text and vivid colors. I won't settle for less.

For a tablet, even a mini one, a bottom jack would be a mistake. Your lap or table goes there!

Headphone jack on the bottom is just freaking dumb on a tablet PERIOD!

this would make sense instead of having 2 fall events.
.

Why would you think Apple dominating the news on 2 days would be better than owning 4?
2 separate unveil days and 2 days of around the block lines.

You all read my mind.;)

I was a little disappointed at the 4S when it came out, but it's understandable since it just "4S", not five. After 2 generations, now the 5 is coming out and it's still looking like the 4, which is still beautiful, but Apple can do a better job than stopping it there. Will they continue to have the same design for iPhone 6, 7, 8, ... 100? That'll be just sad. I'm not talking about "change for the sake of change", I'm looking to see more beautiful designs from Apple. The iPhone 4 design can't be the final one that they can think of.

I'm sure everyone will get used to the look. One day people will probably think that the 4S looked short. For a .5" increase in screen size they've done a decent job of not increasing the length by a large amount.

Given enough time, anything can be getting used to, even the most ugly design. But I hold Apple to a higher standard. I expected Apple to wow me the first time, not trying to get me to get used to.
