With the new Kindles, I question the wisdom of a non-Retina iPad mini. The larger version is Retina quality, and the smaller phone is Retina quality. Why not adopt it across your entire portable line. It would seem to make more sense.
It could be a price thing. If the non-retina was $249 and the retina was $299, what would you choose?

Yep, the longer form factor for the iPhone 5 is still look stupid and ugly.
Didn't realize you had a crystal ball or was an apple insider.
Unless you've personally used the new iphone, you don't know squat.

You all know the iPad Mini is just going to be a repackaged old iPad 2. I recently got a Nexus 7, and absolutely love it! The quad core plus 1GB RAM makes it lightning fast. I highly doubt Apple will be able to emulate its specs at anywhere near the price, so I suspect the Mini will not do as well as everyone is expecting. Consumers are realizing better alternatives are available, and really the only thing going for the iPad at this point is it great display, which is not on the iPad 2.

This guy's pic is next to the word 'clueless' in the dictionary.

I would gladly buy an iPad mini, and here's hoping that they call it "iBook."

Ok everyone; imagine my fingers are crossed. And yes, I would love it if they called it that.

I Think iPad mini will be 16:9

It only makes send that the iPad mini will be a 16:9 screen. The case is a different aspect ratio and the new iPhone will have a 16:9 screen... why not make the iPad mini the same aspect ratio? Smaller bezel on the sides doesn't make any sense.

I've been holding out for the iPad mini. The iPad is just too big...

and too heavy, at least if you want to hold it like an iPhone for more than a few minutes. That's why Apple decided to offer a smaller, lighter iPad.

I have a feeling Apple is going the Retina route for all new devices now...

People used to a retina display won't want a downgraded display. I know I don't so I'm hoping Apple doesn't decide to use a display that dates back to the 2009 3GS. I own a 3rd gen iPod Touch and an iPhone 4S. The display of my 4S looks so much better than the display of my Touch. My eyes are like do I have to look at this when I use my Touch.

My first iPad MUST have a retina display. There's no going back for me and probably a lot of other people. If it doesn't have a retina display, I'll have to wait for the 4th gen iPad (maybe it will be lighter) or 2nd gen iPad Mini (one long year perhaps).

iPad Micro with phone capabilities

I noticed a large size gap between the iPad mini and the iPhone in comparison with that between the iPad and the iPad mini. Could Apple fill this size gap with an iPad micro with phone capabilities or an iPhone titanic?

The mid-point between 7.85" and 4" is 4+(7.85-4)/2 = 5.925". The size of this iDevice could be from 5.5" to 6". This iDevice would be a killer to the large-size mobile phones from Samsung.

I hope you're right and Apple doesn't give us a smaller non-retina iPad 2. Websites reviewing the non-retina iPad Mini would give it a lower score and perhaps even tell people to wait for the inevitable retina revision. Perhaps from an economic perspective it makes sense for Apple to cut costs, but from the perspective of someone who owns a retina iPhone or iPad, it's a bad deal for your eyes.

I bought the first gen iPad. Within a month, I sold it and bought a macbook air. Haven't bought an iPad since. But, I think I'll definitely be buying an iPad mini!

You buy tablets based on specs? What are you doing, running Skyrim on it?

well, no offense. but how do you know? so far apple mobile device has never been 16:9. it's very odd resolution anyway. I don't think that ipad mini will be 16:9 neither.

Why would you think Apple dominating the news on 2 days would be better than owning 4?
2 separate unveil days and 2 days of around the block lines.

3+ Days. 1 Unveil day and 2 release days with long lines not only on the days of release, but a couple days after as well.

Ok everyone; imagine my fingers are crossed. And yes, I would love it if they called it that.

But it's not a book, and calling it "iBook" would make it the third iBook that Apple makes. I'm still hoping for Apple to call something relevant the "iBook" anyway :)

It has been confirmed that the iPhone 5 will be 16:9, and the screens for it have already been made undoubtedly.

You need to improve your reading skills. I was voicing my opinion, not stating facts.

Let's me add a few more words to make it clearer. In my opinion, if the iPhone 5 will look like leaked pics, it is ugly and stupid. There you have it.

Apple might not match your Nexus 7 spec but it will certainly match its speed. I agree with the poster above, you are clueless.

Here is how I see it. Thus far, literally every single first generation mobile apple device has had something pretty big missing from it.The iPhone 1 didn't have 3G support, unlike even dumb phones at the time, the iPod touch 1 didn't have a speaker, unlike every PMP ever made, and the iPad 1 didn't have any cameras, which was a bust for many. All of those deletions were big selling points in their next generations, so let's ask ourselves, what can apple delete this time around. My vote is for the retina display. Apple can sell a bunch of regular non retina minis now and then have something to market next year for people to upgrade to. In addition, the display adds a lot of cost to what should be a cheap device to conquer the Nexus 7 and Kindle fire, but more importantly, takes a massive battery which I don't think can fit in the smaller case. Remember a few months ago when it was found new iPad 2 devices had a die shrunken A5SOC? Why would apple bother to refine something that should be on its way out in favor for the a5x or a6... perhaps it was a test for a new device with a smaller battery... As we all know apple doesn't really care about specs either, such as how they continue to use dual core CPUs in the iPad 3 while most high end android devices are quad core, so I don't see them having any problems reusing the acceptable A5 again. To recap, I see the die shrunken A5 paired with a 1024x768 display for app compatibility and what do we have.... Oh wait, that sounds like an iPad 2, and oh wait, that is still in production so parts are cheap to make increasing revenue.

iOS is so efficient, it doesn't need a 1GB and terabytes of space to be able to run just as fast if not faster then its competitors. Android is so inefficient that it always rely on the hardware to compensate.

If you want to compare, run the latest android and latest iOS on devices with similar hardware specs and then we'll talk.

I agree, consumers are realizing better alternative are available and the better alternative is iOS, not android.

Omg, this.

Funny how some will leave their "iPad 3" for a mini, or probably even more concerning, ditch an iPad 2 for the mini when it will more than likely have the same spec sheet.

I don't get how 9.7" is too big, for a tablet.

It will still be just as fast as your Nexus 7 regardless. The screen on Nexus 7 is already worse than those new Kindle HDs. How's about that, fool? LOL.

I really dont believe in a ipad mini until apple releases it. I just dont think its gonna happen. iPhone, ipod touch, iPad then really a ipad mini? Lets release exactly what Steve said wasnt gonna work on the one year anniversary of his death.
