I really dont believe in a ipad mini until apple releases it. I just dont think its gonna happen.

This's what I'm afraid atm. Not that it'll be retina or not (I'm still using iPad 2 so I don't mind about it not being retina). I'm afraid it will be like tear-drop iPhone rumor from last year because my wallet is sooooo ready.

It will still be just as fast as your Nexus 7 regardless. The screen on Nexus 7 is already worse than those new Kindle HDs. How's about that, fool? LOL.
Your a real pleasure to talk to! You cant think of any valid points to discuss so you resort to personal attacks that frankly are humorous to me..

Apple Store is Down

I know this has nothing to do with the thread but, the apple online store is down.

Apple might not match your Nexus 7 spec but it will certainly match its speed. I agree with the poster above, you are clueless.

I was gonna respond, but then I looked at your signature and saw which iPad you have.:p

Valid points huh. How about the speed between Nexus 7 and iPad 3 and calculate that to the screen of iPad mini? Oh, and all the history between iOS and Android hardware usage? You are lucky Google didn't charge you for those hardwares that compensate for their software like Moto and Sammy used to charge for their tablets LOL.

Yep, the longer form factor for the iPhone 5 is still look stupid and ugly.
Yep.

However some may call it unique.

One things for sure, no other maker would build an elongated phone as odd looking as this. They don't have the influence to get their customers to buy it.

Only Apple posseses that degree of power & control. It's an amazing phenomenon for sure.

Headphone jacks on the iPads makes sense since they're lap electronics. The iPhone is a pocket and hand electronic hence the jack is on the bottom, where is should have been all along.
I'd prefer the headphone jack at the bottom of both the iPad and iPhone, because it's a pain having the cord dangling all over the place on the iPad when using it in portrait.

OK, let's talk about the speed. I am a photographer, and shoot huge RAW files. If I connect my camera to the iPad 3 and look at the raw files themselves, the dual core CPU will take tens of seconds just to render the image so I can see it. If I connect the same camera to my quad nexus 7, since I have two times the cores, all of which are clocked higher, I wait less, at just a few seconds each, saving me a ton of time. How will you respond to that? I would like to respond to your other points but they are not coherent enough for me to deduce what you were getting at...

With the new Kindles, I question the wisdom of a non-Retina iPad mini. The larger version is Retina quality, and the smaller phone is Retina quality. Why not adopt it across your entire portable line. It would seem to make more sense.

I guess it depends on price points and probably more importantly - cannibalisation of the iPad market by the mini – you gotta have some reason to upgrade!

If you're a photographer and you bought 7" tablet, sorry, you're a fool already. That's not calling name. That's stating the fact. Buy something bigger! Beside, the screen of Nexus 7 is just not good enough in term of contrast and color correction.

The idea is simply to review the images on something bigger than the built in camera screen. Its not like I really edit them on the tablets, so for my use, no, I'm not a fool. the nexus is so much lighter and more convient to carry than the ipad so that is a big plus as well. Try a bit harder.

I was one who said I don't need a bigger screen. Any while I don't think it would be a bad thing, I don't really like the idea of a bigger phone. However, I do agree with a lot of people saying that it the screen is getting bigger, it should be wider too, not just taller. This taller phone will just feel narrower.

So you get more vertical info in texts, safari, mail, etc.

OR... you go landscape and get more width but suddenly feel like it that much shorter because the lack of width gives you no landscape height.

No, I'm not saying you're a fool for using Nexus 7. If you're happy with the screen that's even worse than Amazon tablets then more power to you. At least quad-core will help you. What I'm saying is that anyone who simply judge a tablet on how many cores and how many RAM it has, like you did, will end up making a fool's statement, even in your unusual case. That's all.

We've seen (leaked) probably every single component of the iPhone 5, and yet almost nothing from a mini iPad.

Strange don't you think?

Ya. I think it's probably going to be on the top. There was some inconsistencies, but it looks like top is more likely now.

arn

Hey arn are we getting a spoiler free keynote link like for the iPhone 4S?? (I know I know there's been a lot of leaks) But I still wanna watch the keynote spoiler free!!

...

The headphone connector on the iPad mini being in the centre, does't appeal to me.

Just does't feel right.

Apple should have kept ot on the right.

Also, sine the iPhone 5 will be taller, not wider, that must also mean resolution only goes greater in one diection by allot. Right?

Rumored IPhone 5 = IPhone 4S with permanent iAd banner !! :)

Well i'm curious as I naively still believe that leaked device is an iPod touch with phone capability... ;) the real iPhone is still hiding somewhere but I suspect it will pop-out the Tim Cook's pant during keynote ;)

So all pay attention on the Tim Cook's pants shape :)

----------

I would gladly buy an iPad mini, and here's hoping that they call it "iBook."

Ok everyone; imagine my fingers are crossed. And yes, I would love it if they called it that.

Hmm I better guess would be like mbp and mba, IPad and AirPad, IPad Air, or simply iPad mini... ;)

I really dont believe in a ipad mini until apple releases it. I just dont think its gonna happen. iPhone, ipod touch, iPad then really a ipad mini? Lets release exactly what Steve said wasnt gonna work on the one year anniversary of his death.

Yeah, why release something like the Fire which obviously doesn't work...it obviously never had a chance to work, as Steve said so.

For a tablet, even a mini one, a bottom jack would be a mistake. Your lap or table goes there!

But the only thing* that sets up or down is the home button, and if I'm using it on my lap having the home button up the top makes a lot of sense for the same reasons.

*Well the only thing other than some badly designed apps.

Not my experience

In my direct experience, the iPad 3 with iPhoto renders my raw images in a few seconds at most. I shoot with a Nikon D700. I shoot exclusively in nef (Nikon raw). I don't even use embedded jpegs, so the image is pure raw data. Hook up my card reader and excluding file transfer speeds, the images are available for preview almost instantly. Rendering the full image takes a few seconds. And this is at full iPad 3 resolution. Just incredible. Editing the photos is problematic for my workflow as I use Lightroom and there are issues with conversion to jpeg. Put for a mobile preview platform and shoot selection tool the iPad 3 is great.

This is just my experience. If it is slow for you it might be related to other factors, but clearly the straight up more cores argument is flatly wrong. Purely theoretical. All I care about is real world usage. The rest is just noise.

I already have a iPad 3 but my wife wants a smaller tablet that she can hold comfortably like a book (she reads allot). She was looking at getting a Nexus 7" but I've persuaded her to wait for the 12th and see what the Mini's going to be like.

Fingers crossed we get details tomorrow or I'm going to look like a Muppet!

Oh and yeah I agree with everyone who says the taller iPhone 5 looks bad, it does indeed look bizarre

I switched from iPhone 4 to SG3 because I wanted a larger correctly proportioned screen and have not regretted my decision :)
