Basically she's explaining why people are willing to stand in line for hours to buy an Appple product. She says it's not so much because of the technology itself but more because people feel they are a part of a larger community. (of Apple fans).
Ah. Thank you!

iPad close encounter

Visited Regent St store today to get hands on the iPad for the first time.

Loads of folks gleefully pawing the iPads, fair few queuing to purchase, said device.

Played with it for about 15-20 minutes. Then walked away without purchasing. Surprised by it weight, it's actually quite heavy, and lack of real functionality for £400+ Very pretty to look at but ebook store prices look just plain silly. Who actually buys a book for over £12.00 ??? Too many entries on the " I wish it did this" list and not enough "must have" feel. :(

I'll wait for version 2 !

I really can't understand the fuss over these things. OK, it has a nice screen but why the excitement at being able to do things you can more comfortably do on a netbook or laptop anyway, without getting its screen all greasy? And £699 for the decently spec'd model - no thanks, Steve.

Sheesh man, why get an iPhone then? I mean you could do all the stuff with an iPhone on a piece of **** windows mobile phone with a stylus.

It is not about the what? it is about the how.

If people really want a new release of a book, they'll pay that. Many 400/500 page physical books I have cost £14/£15 and large hardbacks even more. But that's physical prices. If an 800 page book cost £12 and I really wanted it I would buy it, because to me it's worth it.
