iPad Launches Internationally to Long Lines

... no, and I sure won't buy one! Overpriced Tech-Toy made to fill Steves pockets. Nobody outside of the decadent apple-world wouldn't even care about this if they didn't start bashing Flash... But they did, so... F _ _ _ you Apple! Yeah, I'm hostile.

piss off troll.

To the moderating: you know this thread is going to attract trolling, more so than any other threads today, shouldn't someone have had the bright idea to have someone actually moderate it? We don't have to wait for an hour and a page and a half length for you to remove a big F.U. to apple.

I find it funny that Apple haters thought this device would fail.

The words EPIC FAIL have been mentioned here on MR more than once in reference to the iPad. I now wonder how long before we get the first 1M units sold internationally.

Ten countries are already "international"?! ;) Here in good old Austria (Central Europe) not a single trace of an iPad, not even a launch date. Nada.

In the meantime I lost the lust for it (together with some friends). Anyway: Enjoy it, rest of the world!

Quite surprised it's not also launching in Austria. For the past 2 years Vienna has been the overall best city in the world to live. Wouldn't mind moving there myself.:)

Grand Master Balmer of the Buffoons using the power of concentration to make vapourware materialise.

It's ridiculous how they keep announcing vapourware and not actually ever releasing them, and not one of the moron pundits on the pc side, bats an eyelid, yet they are so incensed with apple not including an sd slot, usb, flash etc. etc. to the only decent shipping tablet reader available on the market.

Hypocrites, liars and sore losers, that's what they are.

You can't always blame the company.
It's not even about blame in my opinion, it's about fixing the problem. And most Apple fans don't seen to care about who makes their products or what sort of life they're able to live. They divide their moral and ethical concerns into different zones until they only care about other people in their same tax bracket or their same neighborhood or their own family whatever other tiny group they're willing to actively care about. They rationalize everything until it ceases to be an issue to them and then they simply move on to more pleasant topics. That's not to say Apple is the worst of the worst, but it would seem there is much to be done to address these problems, far more than the vague promises we've received so far. It would be nice to see Apple's futures tied more closely to their moral and ethical behavior, but that would require a society based on action instead of indifference.

There was a large pile of 30 or more ipads unsold on the genius bar at the Apple shop in Eldon Square. This was at about 3:30pm

There were about fifty of each variant except the 16gig 3G piled up in the Currys in Hedge End. There were only two 16gig 3Gs, one after I got mine.

Who are all of these simpletons buying the iPad? Why would anybody even wait in line for such a device?

Do these millions of people who have already purchased iPads not yet know that it doesn't have flash!!! Flash is incredibly important. If not for flash, I wouldn't be able to watch 13 hours of lo-quality porn every day! I also can't keep up to date with all of the increasingly useful and essential flash adverts that bombard me when I visit certain sites!

Please people, return your iPads immediately, you are making all of the naysayers look like complete morons and unintelligent whiners. I have to go now, because I'm off to another forum where they're also talking about the iPad, and I must do my duty and inform these people about how terrible the iPad is! I don't want anybody to have an iPad.

When I'm not busy bashing the iPad, I spend 65% of my time watching really crappy flash porn and the remaining 35% of my time is spent playing farmville on facebook with my 13 year old friends! Even if the iPad did have flash, my McDonald's burger flipping salary prevents me from buying one, so I am against the iPad regardless!

"I wanted to touch it as soon as possible. I felt real excitement when it was finally in my hands,"

I foresee a long life of involuntary celibacy for this young man.

What he originally said in Japanese probably doesn't come off as weird as the translation. Japanese is a hard language to translate into English. As somebody who speaks it I know this. That being said anybody willing to wait in a line for that length of time is undoubtedly a bit dorkish. Sorry if that offends the dorks out there. :)

People said that with GUI OSs back in the day. DOS users could still do word processing and spreadsheets and just didn't "get" why you would need to move to a Mac or Windows environment. Somethings are still better with a desktop OS but other things are better with the iPad. The iPhone is nice but for some things like the web or books, the iPad does better.

I still don't understand why word processors just keep getting worse... WordPerfect 5.1 was reliable and predictable; MS Word still can't manage proper headline formatting across page breaks 13 years later. And don't get me started on the fscking ribbon!

But, the benefits of an iPad over iPhone for all of the things the iPhone does well is easy to see. It's nice to be able to read a flowing paragraph without scrolling. It is nice to be able to read more than two lines while typing.

Surf the web - won't be able to see at very least half of the sites I view on daily bases due to lack of Flash player...

check your email - can already do it on my phone, iPod Touch, laptop and desktop. I don't think I need 5th device to check my email.

tweet, chat, watch some movies - podcasts- YouTube clips, play some music, play some games, do a little word processing - same as per above...

iPad = one mega yawn...

Flash sites will convert - or at least offer up iPad friendly versions. Might take a month or two. ;-) Earlier today I used the iPlayer on my iPhone - it's brilliant. It can be done, and some quite easily.

If you have already so many devices, continue with them, though they aren't the same form factor as this one. So, why trawl through iPad discussions over and over again, unless you're worried someone might not understand this device isn't for you?

It launched here in the UK today and I'm holding back running out and grabbing one. But I'm torn, I'm a consummate 1st gen Apple product consumer, and the other point is that I want the new iPhone when it releases. If I could have both I would (and will - hopefully).

Think you'll ever find an iPad interesting?

I've said it time and time again, when the iPad was first announced I'll be honest. I was disappointed, but I thought once you see them in person and use them I'd feel differently. Plus after hearing people's experiences with them.

Now that they are in the UK I can't wait to try one out and have a good go on them. I want to be wowed :D

Undercover Apple haters who have nothing better to do with their time other than troll on Apple sites and get infuriated over the company's success. I call it jealousy :)

I wouldn't presume to know what to call it in them, but it's offensive and annoying in me.

You think it's bad here, go on over to The Register where it's filled with idiots acting like 5 year olds talking about how if Steve Jobs had a s**t and offered it for sale fanbois (one of the Register's favourite derisive terms) would be queueing up to buy it. I imagine a few (or more) of them trawl these forums too.

I notice on launch days that when people start sharing their excitement and stories regarding getting their own iPads, for a few hours the trolls stay away, but then they wake from their slumber, throw open the coffin lid and begin their bloody rampages. Today was no exception.

I love reading about everyone's experiences with getting their new iPad. Here's a good one: at the Apple store in London, the first chap in the queue was a 17 year old boy from Essex (having started queueing Thursday mid-day), waiting to buy his iPad (32GB). His father found out he was first in the queue and helped him get the 64GB instead of the 32GB version.

It made me so happy imagining this kid getting his new iPad 64GB, taking it home and playing with it and deriving so much joy from it. Melted my heart, but all these trolls downvoted my post on the Register. Cold hearted trolls not happy with other people being happy and joy filled. :(

Again, no one is forcing you to purchase one.

Maybe we should. At least then all these trolls would have a cogent argument.

Suddenly!?!?

It took me about 2 months of careful consideration to conclude that I would actually accept one - free of charge - but only if Steve himself delivers it to me...

:p

Progress is still progress.

This is awesome looks like worldwide demand is pretty huge for this. Have they announced what countries are next?

In France, I've got one...

and I had not to get in the line. By chance, I've bought the latest in the FNAC in Bordeaux (a french middle-size city in the south-west); and they said they've sold all the 200 iPads they had this morning.

Mobbed ...

London doesn't look all that busy?

Oh it was - I work just across the road and, arriving at work at 8:30, had to navigate a crowd stretching far down the side road, with lots of high viz stewards, and Apple TShirts whooping and clapping outside every time someone left the store with an iPad (presumably to alert the more seedy characters in the vicinity to the fact that there was prey galore). What a hype - why didn't these guys just pre-order ? Spending the night outdoors in London is surely not the most pleasant pastimes !

Anyway, not going to fall for the temptation - too many times been an early adopter, so I shall wait for V2 with a front facing camera and more competitive deals from the opportunist telecomms providers that again have shown their aptitude in providing a set of ridiculously overpriced deals to the first lot of unsuspecting victims naively purchasing the 3G models - which, by the way, are not available yet ... raising the point of the lack of point in buying a mobile device that relies on fixed access points with no workarounds. Not a good deal in my mind.

But I shall have one, for sure, when the dust settles a bit !

They do. But a lot of people enjoy the queuing up part. Additionally, those who pre-ordered late will have to wait until mid to late June for delivery.

I'm glad to see that mobbing the Apple store is not just an USA thing. The Apple iDevice excitement is everywhere.

I can't imagine another company that could have the same response. Steve Ballmer could monkey dance outside a Microsoft store when they they release their next Brown Zune Skidmark™ and no one would come to line up.

On a completely unrelated note, I must ask again - who neg reps a story like this?

There's a lot of other company's management that lament, "Why can't we get our customers to be this excited?"

There was a large pile of 30 or more ipads unsold on the genius bar at the Apple shop in Eldon Square. This was at about 3:30pm

They were likely not the more popular 3G iPads.

My! Precious!

Don't be silly. Everyone knows trolls prefer the Microsoft brown Zune Skidmark™ device. :)

I don't know who told you that but that's a lie. Many places start you at 3 weeks (I work for the gov't and I won't get 4 weeks until I've worked there for 8 years...). My girlfriend had a job last year that only gave her 2 weeks / yr (not a minimum wage job or anything...it was a good one, just not enough vacation).

I've heard of people starting with 4weeks but that's pretty unusual

(Btw I'm in Ottawa, On)

Maybe it has to do with different province? Most of the ones I dealt with that told me that were from the Vancouver, BC area or upper British Columbia - None even remotely in the Eastern or Ontario / Quebec regions of Canada. Funny, most of our clients in Canada are on the west coast side.

Work 8 years before getting an extra week?? that stinks.

11 a.m. @ apple store bahnhofstrasse (switzerland). plenty of iPads and no queue in front of the store...

why did I orderd it over the internet??

Beautiful post. Envy, control, and power is in the hearts of those trolls that won't let someone enjoy their purchase of a product that inspires them.

But I am taking issue with moderating in these forums, because at least there should be a protective haven in apple forums to share a product launch without having to suffer through abuse from idiots. Yet they are doing close to nothing to safeguard this just to get more ad hits. That's why this site is in a dire state. I would suggest you come over to apple insider for a really enjoyable experience where trolling is frowned upon, and taken care of, by both users and the velvet glove of the moderating team.

These guys here are inexcusable for having allowed one day to go by without deleting a post that comes in an apple launch thread, and writes F.U. apple.

Absolutely no excuse to that. This is the most inept moderating on any forums I have seen. Pear trees would do a better job moderating. Instead of being hawks to safeguard one of the largest apple related forums on product launch so we can share our enjoyment and impressions, they won't lift a finger, and allow trolls to troll just to get hits.

I am talking to you arn, yeah, you are one of the top sites in apple traffic, but the tides are turning, you 've left long time trolls here, and every little troll-y roam around, and if you ask anyone from the core of apple fans what they think of your site, there's only one answer, and it's not polite to post it here. That's what happens when you let people offend us for what we like and admire, in our very own forums just to get an extra buck for the hits.

yeah, lot of responses are coming from Europe especially from italy, paris..........etc.
I can see a buzz coming from japan as well.................
i too doubt about weather it will be same in Canada or not ..........:)

Considering the majority of us Canadians live close to the US border, its certainly not hard for us to hop over and grab something that hasn't yet been released.

Not too long ago, our dollar was at par (if not over par at times)...which is when I did an afternoon trip down to the US and picked up one for myself....cheaper that way considering apple hikes the international prices up slightly.

But I can understand what your getting at....there probably wont be lines here at either the local Best Buy's or at the Apple Stores.
