Oh my God Google's targeted ad's that is really funny, I guess I will have to click on the link :D

I just went to that link, damn good recipes for Apple pies!! Thanks Google.

piss off troll.

To the moderating: you know this thread is going to attract trolling, more so than any other threads today, shouldn't someone have had the bright idea to have someone actually moderate it? We don't have to wait for an hour and a page and a half length for you to remove a big F.U. to apple.

I am taking issue with moderating in these forums, because at least there should be a protective haven in apple forums to share a product launch without having to suffer through abuse from idiots. Yet they are doing close to nothing to safeguard this just to get more ad hits. That's why this site is in a dire state. I would suggest you come over to apple insider for a really enjoyable experience where trolling is frowned upon, and taken care of, by both users and the velvet glove of the moderating team.

These guys here are inexcusable for having allowed one day to go by without deleting a post that comes in an apple launch thread, and writes F.U. apple.

Absolutely no excuse to that. This is the most inept moderating on any forums I have seen. Pear trees would do a better job moderating. Instead of being hawks to safeguard one of the largest apple related forums on product launch so we can share our enjoyment and impressions, they won't lift a finger, and allow trolls to troll just to get hits.

I am talking to you arn, yeah, you are one of the top sites in apple traffic, but the tides are turning, you 've left long time trolls here, and every little troll-y roam around, and if you ask anyone from the core of apple fans what they think of your site, there's only one answer, and it's not polite to post it here. That's what happens when you let people offend us for what we like and admire, in our very own forums just to get an extra buck for the hits.

Dude, you're acting like a total bedwetter. Is nobody allowed to have an opinion that deviates in any way from your fawning subservience to King Steve? What's wrong with free speech? Anyway, there are plenty of iPad lovers patrolling this thread ready to shoot down any hint of dissent so you can sleep sound tonight.

Oh and as for Apple Insider: I spent an hour reading some threads there once and I can see why you love it so much; it's a string of fist-gnawingly awful paeans to the utter superiority of apple. Every significant gadget and computer I own is an Apple so I'm no hater, but BOY, was I embarrassed to think I had anything in common with those losers. And that's pretty much the same way I feel about watching people queue (often for days) to buy an iPad. So spare me your indignant rage and bugger off back to Apple Insider, it's not a patch on the free and open debate zone that is MR.

Apples fans are really stupid and today I can attest about it (I precise: I like and own lots of Apple products, but I'm just not "fan" of anything. Fans are stupid blind sheep following whatever is sold in a good marketing light to them)

I was in Paris and I had a friend in the Munich store. Sure it wasn't as empty as some other cities reported, but it was far from being full, only the few real fans were here, some techies and some curious like me, and off course I haven't heard of any empty stock or crazy sell stories...

Then now that all the iSheep, professional techies and rich kids have their gadget who else will buy it ? Sure there are people who can wake up a morning and say "Hey I need a new computer or a new phone like 80% of the people, I've saved money and I've heard Macbooks/Iphones are pretty goods at being laptop/cellphone". But which of them is going to tell himself "hey I've saved money, I'm just going to waste it on a thing...apple thing...apple tablet which is pretty good at being...at tablet...thing"...

This thread seems to have gone a bit AWOL.

For those that are interested I popped into my local Currys store Friday morning at 8:30. Walked in, paid £499 for a 32Gig wifi, turned down all offers of accessories and left at 8:33. :D

There were people being served by each till and the sales person said they had a steady stream of sales but no queues.

But I do understand people wanting the vibe of the Apple Store queues. Back in the day I was there when the Regent Street store first opened.

Just my 2p worth

You are so offensive - you don't discuss, you attack and offend, call people names and do nothing to progress discussion. Differing opinions are great, but in your world there are two: yours and stupid people's. You are not anyone that discusses anything, you offend, that's all you do.

Civil discourse, give it a try sometime. I'm sure I'd enjoy discussing your opinions at that point, but not until then.

So spare me your indignant rage and bugger off back to Apple Insider, it's not a patch on the free and open debate zone that is MR.
The free and open debate zone is the "f.u. apple", and the "bugger offs" to me? And calling others losers by virtue of them waiting in line for a tech product they love

One of the first in London was Stephen Fry, and there's a very nice segment of him on Apple insider where someone interviews him on the spot and he talks about the affection that users feel for apple products, and he does too, an affection that one might feel for a car they love, or their dog, and some other lovely things that one would better listen than read my version of them here.

I suppose then that the polymath actor and author is himself a loser right? By virtue of nitwits like yourself proclaiming him one and joining this free and open zone of debate with "f.u apple" and "bugger offs" that is mac rumours?

I think I'm finished here

Crazy Hype.
Walked into my local PC World an hour ago.
They've got all models in stock, apparently they've sold 6 so far today... No queues.. nobody even looking at them apart from staff.

Same here at Brighton PCWorld about midday. One person trying out the iPad, 3 bored looking staff hanging around with nothing to do and according to the glimpse of the screen I got they had 12 32Gb WiFi models in stock (well, 11 now :) ).

11 a.m. @ apple store bahnhofstrasse (switzerland). plenty of iPads and no queue in front of the store...

why did I orderd it over the internet??

Just came back from a Best Buy in Ottawa (St-Laurent). They received between 5 and 10 units of each models... There was about half a dozen people in line.

Even those who cared were overhyped by January. Almost half a year passed, nobody can keep their interest up this long. Besides, the gadget's image is already tarnished by the frustrating limitations. It will be cool to see the new iPod Touch beating the iPad in specs.

Thanks, rest of the world. These image are going to cause several sleepless nights for Apple haters everywhere. Way to do your part! :D

What is causing me sleepless nights is my work with a lot of international travel and the fact that my MBP's battery sucks and I can only get less than 3 hours out of a '7 hours' battery.

A few weeks ago I have been to Geneva and Zurich and I saw a few iPads at the airport - some young people had them and they looked very busy with their paper cups and tight jeans. So far, no colleague of mine purchased one - most decent legal and corporate networks that we use incorporate Flash. That's the end of it for us. It's not hate, it's not porn - it's basic databases and charts. Perhaps with a bit of annoyance about the hype.

What's worse (for them), they really really want an iPad but buying one would mean they have to admit to themselves how stupid they are! There is one reporter at the Daily Mail in Britain who just shot himself massively in the foot - he wrote a one page apple hater article in the Daily Mail, all the required ingredients like the "drooling acolytes" (I guess he used Dictionary on the Mac to spell big words like this correctly), so now he never, ever can be seen with an iPad in his whole life.

I don't read the Daily Mail but I can see, why you do. I find both of you an insult to my intelligence.

You do realize that you're in the herd of people who think that they're not in a herd? Not buying something because it's popular is the same (psychologically) as buying something because it's popular - in both cases you're reacting to the crowd. Which is fine, but please avoid reacting to the crowd and then telling us how you don't react to the crowd.

Grand Master Balmer of the Buffoons using the power of concentration to make vapourware materialise.

It's ridiculous how they keep announcing vapourware and not actually ever releasing them, and not one of the moron pundits on the pc side, bats an eyelid, yet they are so incensed with apple not including an sd slot, usb, flash etc. etc. to the only decent shipping tablet reader available on the market.

Hypocrites, liars and sore losers, that's what they are.

I wanted to write something, but what's the point?

Who are all of these simpletons buying the iPad? Why would anybody even wait in line for such a device?

Do these millions of people who have already purchased iPads not yet know that it doesn't have flash!!! Flash is incredibly important. If not for flash, I wouldn't be able to watch 13 hours of lo-quality porn every day! I also can't keep up to date with all of the increasingly useful and essential flash adverts that bombard me when I visit certain sites!

Please people, return your iPads immediately, you are making all of the naysayers look like complete morons and unintelligent whiners. I have to go now, because I'm off to another forum where they're also talking about the iPad, and I must do my duty and inform these people about how terrible the iPad is! I don't want anybody to have an iPad.

When I'm not busy bashing the iPad, I spend 65% of my time watching really crappy flash porn and the remaining 35% of my time is spent playing farmville on facebook with my 13 year old friends! Even if the iPad did have flash, my McDonald's burger flipping salary prevents me from buying one, so I am against the iPad regardless!

Sarcastic or not, you sound a very simplistic person. If Flash is just video and Facebook games for you, it tells more about yourself than anybody else. Your stereotypes reveal a person who... Actually, you know what? I wish you an iPad!

This is awesome looks like worldwide demand is pretty huge for this. Have they announced what countries are next?

As there is no hysteria in Europe, I suspect they will have some left for Iraq and some bored soldiers. Is there an app for suicide bombing?

Euro Boyz got no reason to cry
Euro Boyz now be fly
No reason to moan
Da iPad be home
Please. Educate yourself – about the eurozone – next time you bark about something you have no knowledge about. Thank you!

There are currently 16 European Union (EU) member states which have adopted the euro, being: Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia and Spain i.e. no iPad models in any of the red marked countries.

it is pretty odd that Germany and Switzerland got the iPad but not Austria.

There are some things in this world which I will never understand, one of them is waiting in line for some hyped product which will be available for immediate purchase in person or online couple of days later. This is some kind of fetish.

Live and let live of course but still, I do not understand how one can be so reckless with his precious life time.

The early adopters and innovators are the ones that make technology move forward. The people that want to be FIRST.

If you want to understand why a person camped 3 days to get the first iPhone while you could walk in the following day to get one in 10 mins, I recommend watching this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qp0HIF3SfI4 (skip to minute 11:00).

As I read these two posts I could almost hear their sobs and picture huge tears raining down on their keyboards as they typed. I'm assuming that you're both grown men, please, get a grip on yourselves. Where's your pride?
If I think that an adult who camps outside a store for a couple of nights is a huge loser then that's fine, it's my opinion. If you disagree then fine, that's yours. The inclusion of Stephen Fry is perplexing. He queued up to buy an iPad? BFD. I'm big fan of Stephen Fry, but unlike yourself I have managed to retain some autonomy of thought, and as such I don't agree with everything he ever does or utters.

And applesupergeek, aren't you being a tad coy? You bitch about my use of "bugger off" yet not one page back you told someone to "piss off". Double bubble standards methinks!

What frustrating limitations? Those in your head? Limitations wrt to what, the non existent competition?

What a a low blow was that last one, granted you were throwing bitter demented garbage before the last bit, but an app for "suicide bombing". I pity you. If you are going to use a word such as "autonomy" you have to know where this word stems from, and the two words that make it up (hint). It's a natural reaction to say to someone, piss off troll, when they post F.U. apple.

So, you are perplexed that Stephen Fry was there on launch day, queuing up for an ipad, well he was, sorry for that. You are deluded to think you are autonomous to not agree with either him or myself, it's just your opinion, that doesn't mean when others dont share your opinion they are not autonomous, you define being autonomous by virtue of one agreeing with what you say. That's what control freaks do, it's understandable. So, here's what you are saying: I am autonomous, I don't identify with these sore losers, and although I like Stephen Fry, I don't agree with him, but anyone who does...well they are not autonomous because they agree with his and not MY opinion. So, evidently being autonomous means people agreeing with you.

Btw, still two days have passed and the F.U. apple still stands, great moderating, since and F.U. is no big deal, F.U. you too.

1.) Strong words from someone who keeps calling others 'idiots' and 'trolls'. Personally, I think you qualify for both. You keep attacking Macrumors as people are allowed to raise some criticism, but it's obvious that you are not really bothered about any low level of discussion. Your only hurt is that somebody said something about an overpriced and overhyped iPod Touch that you are obsessed with. If you prefer AppleInsider, just leave. In fact, if you have so much problems with so many others, leave anyway. I might too. I'm getting tired of this whole thing of reading abuse from all sorts of people who I would never want to share any of my life with.

2.) Put me on your Ignore List, I will do the same.

3.) Stop reading me and stop harassing me!

4.) "Complications in my head"? I don't need sort of an insult from somebody with your issues. You need to relax, 'applesupergeek'. I don't expect a better behaviour with that name but I don't like when you throw your dirt on me.

5.) Contrary to your claim, competition exists and existed before the iPad came out. There have been some tablets out before and even cheap no-name brands are out with their tablets. Search for 'Android tablet' and you will find open source tablets with decent file management system, camera, multitasking, Flash support, light construction, matte screen, SD card slot, USB port and all this for around 100-150 USD. By the way, they are the limitations that you just cannot accept to exist. Sure, they are not as attractive, but the point is that what many of us would expect from a tablet is not met by the iPad. Perhaps that's why that here, in Europe, people are not as excited about a new gadget.

6.) I need no pity from somebody like you. I'd rather have that pretentious snob and boring Stephen Fry licking me below than you feeling any pity. I'm doing very well, thank you.

I must admit i got cold feet when pre-ordering and ended up having to take my chances on launch day. Luckily, I knew not to go anywhere near the Apple Store (especially after I heard people would be queuing overnight!) and went to PC World instead after work. The High Street Kensington store only had 64GB Wi-Fis. I had planned to get the 32 Wi-Fi but I didn't take much convincing to get the 64 ;)

Best decision I made though, as it has allowed me to put all my music and photos on and still have some space.

I must say I'm very please so far. The new iWork suite is fantastic, and I can still read the Times on the tube, even without a network connection!

I really can't understand the fuss over these things. OK, it has a nice screen but why the excitement at being able to do things you can more comfortably do on a netbook or laptop anyway, without getting its screen all greasy? And £699 for the decently spec'd model - no thanks, Steve.

I predict the iPad will be consigned to history by 2012. I will reference this post then and will expect to be told that I was right by all those poor folk who bought them in 2010 only to sell them a couple of years later. :D

I wonder if it'll be busy in Canada. I haven't heard of too much interest here.

I was at the downtown store and they had line for people wanting to purchased, but no one was lining up. Although, there were a bunch of people playing with the device...and as much Apple employees.

and it failed, just like all the people who bought it..

Did it hurt when your mother accidentally dropped you on your head when you were an infant? It is apparent that you still suffer some severe trauma stemming from that incident.

If Flash is just video and Facebook games for you, it tells more about yourself than anybody else.

No, it's ads also, and they pop up on many websites, even on this site.

What flash greatness am I missing, which you claim that I am not aware of?

By missing my point you have actually proved it. I'm not perplexed by Stephen Fry's appearance, I just don't know why you felt the need to mention him at all. If you posessed the autonomy that you think you have then you wouldn't need to seek validation in the old "if a celebrity is doing it then it must be good" philosophy. You, sir, are just a mindless pawn in the grand capitalist scheme.

But wait! You accuse of control freakery yet you beg the Mods to intervene and remove those comments with which you don't agree. Perhaps not a capitalist pawn at all but a tragic little Fascist railing against free speech and independent thought? I was wrong, you're not so shallow afterall

The iPad has also been a huge success in Australia - over 30,000 sold on day one (naturally not as many as the US). These have been literally walking out the doors of all Apple Stores, plus Apple's competitive pricing. Apple didn't publicize that the iPad would also be available at Dick Smith / JB HiFi / David Jones, etc so most went to the Apple stores which were naturally allocated the most stock.

Based on the story here: http://www.news.com.au/technology/i...ipads-on-day-one/story-fn5knrwy-1225872802569 the most popular iPad was the 64GB WiFi + 3G model retailing for about $1,049 (including GST - 10%). Plus the iPad is the first apple device to be released with the A4 CPU (SOC), and economically why would you pay for an iPod touch 64GB for $550 (Non A4 CPU) when for around $500 more you get the latest apple hardware.

Does anyone recommend the AppleCare extended warranty for the iPad?

I find it funny that Apple haters thought this device would fail.

To be fair no body really knew for sure if the iPad would be a succes until it hit the store shelves. After all the tablet PC as a product category had largely failed as a consumer device in the years prior to the iPad.

But it speaks volumes about Apple's ability to "get it right" that they could take an unsuccesfull product category and turn in into a succes in its first shot.

What's the blond lady saying? Just a summary as I'm curious.

Basically she's explaining why people are willing to stand in line for hours to buy an Appple product. She says it's not so much because of the technology itself but more because people feel they are a part of a larger community. (of Apple fans).
