No, what's pointless is your post. The article is very intersesting and intriguing.. especially on a slow news Sunday.

I completely agree. It seems like the people who are saying this article is pointless are the self-centered elitist ones whose lives are "way better" than those of the people on the island. ...oh by the way, they're lives aren't better.

The idea of Pitcairn has always frightened me a bit since the sexual assault trial.

It's a tiny gene pool, too. If the four families on that island have been there for more than 2 generations, chances are it doesn't matter who you hook up with. You're related somehow.

can't help to think:

the ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle

I guess if your iPad was stolen, you could narrow it down quickly :)

More proof that the iPad is dominating. Stuff like this just makes me want an iPad or the new MacBook air.

Dear Mr Christian
The Crown takes dim view of the treasonous crime of Mutiny or those profiteering from crime.
Please report for the tower for beheading.

But seriously folks,
What a great weekend story.
A world of history united by tech.

If you don't think this is worth 30 seconds of your time to read - please, don't breed.

+1. For those of you who spent the bits to criticize, get a life. Or better yet, just go away.

a quick google search informed me that Andrew is 25 and left as a baby and only came back 10ish years ago. So while the rapes are completely deplorable, he wasn't involved in any of it. And being related to a monster doesn't make you a monster.

Reminds me of an old saying:

One can pick and choose ones friends but one can not pick and choose ones relatives! ;)

 I could not live on that island, ever! I pay US$60 per month for unlimited 1000 Mbit/s downstream and 100 Mbit/s upstream.

For me it would only take 5 minutes and 20 sec to use up all of your yearly bandwidth, at full speed.

Talk about people living in the stone age.
Wow, I'm kinda jealous. We (well, my dad) pays $40 for 8Mbit/s up and 2Mb/s down. And the reliability sucks. Can't wait until Verizon FiOS comes to my area.

isn't this the same guy? (Andrew Randall Christian aka Randy Christian)
hopefully he's using his new iPad for more benign reasons that what he's known for...

Oh FFS. Andrew was born in 1985.

According to your article Randy Christian allegedly committed his crimes starting in 1988. Do the math.

People need to stop digging into his life and accusing him for the crimes of his ancestors.

I'm directly related to Fletcher Christian, too - true. But my last name isn't Christian and I don't live on that island.

don't care :p, honestly I'm sick and tired of the ipad and iphone stuff, we've had so much of that lately, not that I am not fans of those..

Damn, on Pitcairn, one can get a lotta 13-year-olds with that.

"...with residents paying NZ$100 (US$75) per month for up to 2 GB of Internet data at 256 kbps."

Poor guy, he just ate up a chunk of his monthly data sending in those pics!
;)

It's interesting because it makes you think how different their life is compared to us living in the cities.

Not that bad

It's interesting because it makes you think how different their life is compared to us living in the cities.

They have a wide variety of fruits that grow all year round, get a lot of exercise, have fresh seafood everyday, and have great weather.

We have hormone injected foods, get very little exercise (most), breathe lovely smog air and are forced to work for living.

And we wonder where all this cancer is coming from, but at least we have fast internet!

That wasn't an iPhone 4. Read the comments from the author which say:

But they used an iPhone 4 to send the GPS signal, so yes, it was. It just wasn't the device taking the video.

Edit: Upon closer inspection of the video, it seems that it was a 3G or 3G S sending the GPS signal (my bad). One of my Facebook friends incorrectly labeled it as an iPhone 4 when posting it on their wall.
