That's an awful amount of vitriol for a community you didn't know existed a day ago.

And like someone else pointed out. How can you classify Andrew as scum just based on an assumption that he's related to Steve Christian?

Seriously. Save your energy for other injustices, like people who judge and accuse people they know nothing about.

In defense of the poster you are attacking, the atrocities that happened on Pitcairn were not just found out a day ago. Anyone who has followed recent news would know about the trials and the history of child molestation that goes back generations. It's actually common knowledge if you bother to read the news.

Some of the men were handed light sentences because they weren't able to keep them locked up. It would have affected the systems they developed on the island. With so few people living there, you can't just lock up people even if they are guilty because everyone has a function to fill. Some of the men accused of the crimes against adolescent girls were the ones who knew how to operate the boats that allowed them to get out to fish and pickup supplies from passing ships. If they locked up those men, the whole island would suffer.

I'm sure there are good people (the victims) who live there, but there are also a lot of scumbags who thought it was within their right to do what they did. I guess that island life is different than here in civilization. Anyway, I think it's funny how some of you rush to defend those on the island because you think it's cool that they have an iPad.

People who are giving a negative rating to this thread know about the truth of what happened on the island. It's going to take years to clear the controversy, not news of them getting an iPad.

The island is not like Hawaii or other tropical locals. It's very remote and pretty hostile compared to other islands. That's why the mutinous crew of the Bounty chose it for their home and to live out their lives in hiding. You really should read about the history because it's very interesting... even if some of it is disturbing. There's been a lot of trouble in paradise, but at least they have an iPad now.

Ooooo boy you NASTY

For me it would only take 5 minutes and 20 sec to use up all of your yearly bandwidth, at full speed.

Talk about people living in the stone age.

Cringeworthy response.

1.7 billion people in the world live in extreme poverty, and millions die from hunger each year. You think limited bandwidth for your expensive toy is "living in the stone age"? Your monthly internet bill could support an entire family in a lot of places.

can't help to think:

the ship set ground on the shore of this uncharted desert isle

I guess if your iPad was stolen, you could narrow it down quickly :)

I wonder if there's a millionaire and his wife there, too? :p

In all seriousness, this is pretty cool that the iPad has reached such a remote location. Wow.
I couldn't live on 2GB a month though, and especially not at 256Kbps. I thought my 50GB limit at 1.5Mbps (I live in Australia :( ) was bad. This sets a whole new precedent. I can't think of the ping time, either :(

Now he can be their "Jacob".

For those who decided to make rude comments about the people living on Pitcairn, I suggest you get a hobby and grow up! I have a feeling some of you would be throwing a tremendous conniption fit if someone wrote anything half as rude about your family or country as some of you have written about the people of Pitcairn. Sort of sad because this was simply supposed interesting story about the ipad and Pitcairn. I truly believe the Internet has resulted in more people acting like trolls while hiding behind avatars, and I do not find it amusing. Just like I am not amused by those who are posting rude things about Obama on this thread. It seems like a lot of people just focus on not liking others. Great story, but some of the comments are truly rude and bizarre.

Welcome to "MacRumors: News and Rumors you care about". I do. If you dont, feel free to stop visiting. There are 1000s of lifeless apple blogs out there. You'll like it much better there :)

Ah the go-to response for all the rabid little MRites. Thanks anyway for the utterly pointless advice, it went well with this utter pointless article.

No, what's pointless is your post. The article is very intersesting and intriguing.. especially on a slow news Sunday.

Its an article telling us about how in a far south island on this earth, apples products can still make their way to people. Who Cares if its page 1, 2 or 3. It isn't hurting you it being there, so just get the **** over it. I *****n hate people like you.

So you'd be surprised if someone in Antarctica had an ipod? You'd want it front and centre on one the main Apple rumours blogs? Nope, this was just a patronising load of crap. Loving your work though Zimm, keep istening to the voices, you angry little man.

Yeah if you are a boy - or you can run faster than your uncle.

Haha!! My bad, this article was worth it in the end.

used to live on Lanai ? small island pretty mellow

back in the 90s lived on Utila ? small island not much to do but dive I taught diving and did underwater photography

have to say living on a small island is fun :) but as they say !

" you dont choose a island a island chooses you "

I know a lot of the history of Pitcairn and reminds me of a small Utila before tourists were as big

would rather live their than lots of places :)

as the crime ? at least their problems are much less than the mainlands problems !!!!

you shouldnt give this island much attention. many of the people are disgusting. there is a long history of incest there, on top of child rape allegations.

also dont feel sorry for not having cell service, they use satellite phones

Goodness, do you take every aspect of your life so seriously?

I'm glad I've more to worry about than the content of the free news site I visit. I presume you'll be donating to the site very shortly? There's really very little point complaining about the articles - posted to drive traffic, and thus advertising revenue, in lieu of any other form of income - if you won't donate.

Would be a little hypocritical, no?

Pretty awesome. I do research on a remote island in the Bahamas with about 14 full Tim residents (who all work on the island taking care of the mini-electrical plant and scientists/boaters that stop by). We get our (lousy, works less than half the time and is slower than dialup most of the time) Internet from satellite and our food the same way we get to the island---by boat or seaplane. You don't get too many fresh veggies or fruit since the supply boat only comes every month or two.
More power to the people that can actually live in those conditions...I go stir crazy after a few weeks and a month on the island alone almost drove me insane!!

Which island are you working on? We're lucky that in Nassau we have broadband internet speeds (though relatively slow compared to the US)

Just out of curiosity what do the two things have to do with each other?

I think the purpose of the article was to say that the iPad is so popular that people in the middle of nowhere want one and someone who lives in the middle of nowhere was able to get one...not to clear up anything that happened in the past.

Be pretty easy retrieval you'd think but imagine the frustration to see the GPS tracking it on a ship (that visited the island) now half way across the Pacific. "Hello Interpol?"

I am not impressed at all.

iPad is not unvaliable at Greece and shops have no idea when Apple will release it. So I would say that ipad has a long way to go before it can approve that is available everywhere.

I live in a pretty remote place with an iPad and many Apple products. As much as I love using their stuff good luck getting service on Pitcairn island. It is bad enough when things break here (which is more often than not in tropical climates) that I have to go to another country for service.
