So an iPad Mini will be able to support split screen, but my freaking $1,000 iPad Air that's less than 2 1/2 yrs old can't? What a crock of s. Sorry Apple but I'm not playing your game, if you gimp my iPad Air, I'm NOT buying your new iPad. I'll either get a 128 Surface or a cheap Macbook (but I probably wouldn't get that because I loathe rewarding bad/sleazy behavior).

Not defending Apple here, but what if that split screen stuff really needs 2 Gb internal ram? What if they do decide to make it available on older devices and it is totally unusable as a consequence of the need for more than 1 Gb internal ram?

Most jailbroken functions of the sort actually perform really bad, which supports the tactic of making new functions only available on devices -1 generation.

Did you never come across *LTD* (now banned), the most prolific Apple Worshipper alive? Most people on this forum can actually differentiate, but he (or she) was more convinced of Apple products than Jobs and Cook.

edit: changed TLD to *LTD*

I think so, yes.

To be honest the 'Ignore' button on the profiles works wonders. It's hides that users posts. And you can unhide on a message by message basis if you're eager to see what they wrote.

It's amazing how much better the forums are to read when you remove a vocal few who bang on about the same nonsense.

I do the same. My ignore list has expanded rapidly with the new design that made it much easier to ignore people.

Well you'd hope so...

Think I'll be down-sizing from my 1st generation iPad Air and would really like split screen to be available to me on a mini.

But will it finally fix the color gamut issue?
They just need to manufacture a better screen in the next run. But, since they haven't resolved the color deficiency in 3 versions, it seems they're just not concerned about it. We know they can do it (fix) - since they routinely do produce a beautiful display for the larger screen. The color gamut is noticeably off if you have a mini and full-size ipad side by side, but in use, I'm not sure that most would notice the difference (including me). Still, that has always been a strike against the mini for me. Aside from the fact that I like the larger size screen.

And I thought split screen multitasking was unnecessary, or at least it was until Apple decided to use it.
It's still unnecessary- Apple is still providing major OS updates for devices that can't do split screen multitasking.
"Nice to have" != "necessary".

I like the side by side in iOS9. it only works with a few apple apps, but what I have seen has been good. I have used it so that I can copy and paste between a web site and an email i was working on. That was very nice. maybe they will really blow this out for the iPad pro -- oh wait, there is no iPad pro. Maybe one day.

I know they can fix it but will they is the question. I anxiously awaited the release of the Mini 2 and even though I'd read about the poor gamut I didn't think I'd notice enough to care. Sure enough, as soon as I bought it I could tell immediately, and not even with my iPad 3 next to it. Back to the store it went. To me it's unacceptable of Apple to allow that to be the standard on any of their devices.

But when Surface had split screen, everyone here said that the screen's too small for split screen and are meant to be used one app at a time?

Who cares if the iPad Mini 4 has 2 GB of RAM. You will see that the iPad Mini's screen is small to even use split view. If your intention was to multitask, then you should have bought an iPad Air 2 in the first place. Then you will have enough room to multitask.

Apple makes one of the most dumbest moves ever. Really, how could the iPhone 6 not have 2gb of RAM? How could the iPad Mini 2 not have Touch ID to start with? How could iPad Mini 3 not have 2gb of RAM?

And I always wanted an iPad with a high precision digitizer so I can use a stylus. Current iPads are not designed for that. No, they won't work on that, it's for the iPad Pro or whatever they're gonna call it. I don't want a huge iPad just for that.

I'm just not satisfied with the iPad Lineup. It's so stripped down. Again, the Surface kicks the iPad's butt in terms of hardware but the problem with Microsoft Surface is the Windows Store. A lot of apps are useless. The only reason I have an iPad Mini 2 was because my college forced me to buy one because I guess they have a contract with Apple or something.

I guess to sum things up, no tablet is right for me. Maybe in the next few years but not now.

Or maybe Apple has figured out a way to make Split View compatible with older hardware. I wouldn't rule out Split View on the iPad Mini 3 just yet.

I would rule it out. All Apple's new devices will get 2GB of RAM which I think is the unspoken requirement for split view. What that means is the new phones will support it as well. I'd bet money on this.

Yes, they clearly are limiting this on purpose. The question is why. Is it really that cost effective to install a screen with a crappier color gamut? Seems like an odd place to try and save a few pennies.

You know why...so that on the next verision they can add that same feature.

Why pack it on the first try when you can make double the money the year after

I sure hope so, as this would be a great addition... hoping it does work with ANY app (I think Android is limited to specific apps on this feature). I wouldn't part with my iPad, but it sure seems like Apple is having to play catch-up these days.

The complaints from people whose devices got slow or their apps crashed would be even louder than the ones complaining they didn't get a feature. Look at all of the complaints of Safari reloads with 1 GB of RAM... Now people want Safari to hang around with another app on the same screen and have decent performance?

It will only work with any app that the developer has modified to work- not sure if that's what you meant or not. Technically any app could be made to work this way, but obviously some will be impractical like games- in that case you'd only get the slide over mode (if the game is the main app) or no choice for it at all (if something else is the main app).

And I thought split screen multitasking was unnecessary, or at least it was until Apple decided to use it.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro and I have to say that its split screen implementation leaves a lot to be desired. It is only useful for some narrowly defined use cases which don't happen to be anything I need or want.

I do see possible merit in splitscreen multitasking on a tablet, but I have yet to see it done well.

Images on Safari often show up scrambled and this article is an example. Any one know why this happens or how to fix it?

Are you using a Hackintosh or a real Mac? I see this problem sometimes when I use Safari on my Hackintosh.
