It seems pretty straightforward to me. Nobody sane is going to replace a laptop, desktop or a mobile device every year unless they have a heavy incentive to do so. Tablets are like PC's and laptops. There is no reason to upgrade every year. Smart phones used to be different in that carriers would heavily subsidize upgrades and early on newer generation devices were improving at an amazing rate. Things have changed. Carriers are moving away from subsidizing new purchases and technology isn't improving as much year over year as it was when the iPhone first came onto the scene. Smart phones will join tablets, laptops and desktops as being devices only upgraded every two or three years .. perhaps longer ... unless carriers move back to a model where they subsidize upgrades every two years.
