iPad Mini is the best for factor for iPads and definitely more comfortable and enjoyable to use than huge iPads.
I switched from iPad Air to Mini 2 and will never go back to full size.
I'm definitely glad about these news about 4Th gen Mini with specs of Air 2.
I find the Mini 2 (and 3 for that matter) showing their age,as they are noticeably slower in general compared to iPhone 6.

I'm sorry, but I'm never buying a mini again. I got the mini 2, loved it, "perfect size."

But I've gotten over it. When I'm at my friend's house and their full size iPads are laying around, my iPad just feels way too crammed. Using it after using theirs just feels unsatisfying and irritating. I used to love the mini size but now I'm not a fan.

Also, if the mini line were to continue, and if I decided to stay with the mini, it would bring nothing but anxiety every year a new iPad is released. I just feel like I'm going to get shafted by Apple and the inferior specs they always put in the mini. With the full size iPad line, you always are getting the newest tech and you don't have to worry.

The only thing that does really suck is the price of the full size iPad. I don't feel like I want to lay down $600 for an iPad.

I really wanted to go mini, and I did when the mini 2 came out, but the color gamut issue really bothered me, more than I thought it would. I won't even think about the mini again until that is fixed.

Let's hope Apple doesn't keep the iPad mini's display inferior to big brother.

Didn't they move the mute switch to control center?
They removed the physical switch, which has been on all iPad models until the Air 2. I thought it was very convenient, don't like its omission. Fast and easy to use by touch. Wonder if they'll remove the volume buttons on the Air 3 ...

Big Mistake discontinuing the iPad mini, it's considered by many as the best device Apple has made. It literally has a 100% costumer sat.

Interesting rumor.. I guess it makes sense for the mini to trail by a year if the cost is less. Fun facts: The air2 and the Touch 6ith gen are 6.1mm thick as will be the mini 4 - sounds like that is about as thin as they can go. From spec comparison it sounds like the mini 4 will weigh about .75 pound. Hope they put in a 2.2 aperture camera.

I'd buy one in a flash if it included a flash!

Love the Mini form for taking pictures, but the 5mp camera is a little grainy -- and the lack of a flash does limit some picture taking.

But it's a great way of showing photos; much better to look at the iPhone...

It's also a great form factor in that the width and height are much more in an aesthetically pleasing golden proportion instead of the excessively narrow and tall iPhones--starting with the 5-- which has undermined a bunch of apps, especially astronomy related ones.

Just wish that Apple would get over its fixation on thinness--they are as bad as super models with eating problems! A little thicker, a better center of gravity, and larger battery would be appreciated! A cool polycarbonate case in colors would be great, too!

before my kid holding an ipad air and it heavy for her she chose ipad mini to play and get away from big ipad

i hope apple keep ipad mini 10 more yrs

thank kiu veri mut

How Long are people going to want something bigger, Bigger, BIGGER!!!
The iPad mini is amazing! I've been holding out for a true updated one.
In fact, I'm seriously considering ditching the iPhone in two years and possibly going iPad Mini only. And maybe a Light Phone with it.

god i hate the coating on my iPad Air 2. it is nearly impossible to remove the finger prints and its not as easy to slide over the screen compared to my old iPad 3 if that makes sense

I hear ya, I have the same problem with my first generation Air, sometimes I have to give a really heavy scrub and I'm scared I'm going to crack the screen.

There is obviously some confusion as to how the mini iPads relate to their larger counterparts. Here is a rundown:

• iPad mini 1 was essentially a smaller iPad 2 (therefore much slower than the iPad 4)
• iPad mini 2 had the exact same specs as the iPad Air 1 (this is the only generation where the mini and Air had the same specs)
• iPad mini 3 had the same specs as mini 2 (therefore much slower than the iPad Air 2)
• iPad mini 4 would thus have the specs of the iPad Air 2 since we missed on that last year

iPad Air 3 meanwhile will be the next generation of iPads and presumably have the same processor as the iPad Pro: A9. Personally I hope the Air 3 is a bit thinner. I know, I'm crazy, but after using the new 12" MacBook I feel the Air 2 is to thick. :D

Edit: here's an easier comparison:

iPad mini 1 = iPad 2 < iPad 4
iPad mini 2 = iPad Air 1
iPad mini 3 = iPad Air 1 < iPad Air 2
iPad mini 4 = iPad Air 2 < iPad Air 3
I still think there won't be any iPad Air 3 this year.so the line up will be : Mini 3 (same specs as Air 2) , Air 2 & Pro.

Please redesign them to have the smooth transition between glass and aluminum like the iPhone 6. That would be so much more comfortable to hold. The chamfered edge of the current design digs into my fingers.
I most certainly agree with you!

I like to use my well designed, nice looking Apple products without covering them up, even if only partially with some kind of case to make them ergonomically comfortable.

Contrary to Apples claim that the user experience is paramount to them, the truth is they have a few overpowering priorities. Make it as thin as an anorexic teenager, put style at the top directly beside the burning desire to collect the highest profits possible.

They made a big fuss about the very thin keyboard designed for the new MacBook released earlier this year.
Expect a matching very thin keyboard for new iPad models this year - perhaps the Pro to make it seem, well, "Pro".

I have holding back to upgrade from my iPad 3 since 2012. Apple... you better release an iPad 3 Air that is not just a thinner Air 2

Really hope this isn't the last mini

But due to iphone 6 plus do you guys think this device is no longer needed if you have the bigger iphone?

That's what I've been thinking -- iPad mini is pretty much a bigger iPod Touch and if you own a 6+ there's hardly any reason to buy an iPad Mini. (Which doesn't stop me from wanting one... with better specs.)

Maybe they got so excited about "customers wanting bigger screens" that Mini and Air will get canceled and Apple will announce an iPad Pro (13") and iPad Pro+ (15") ;)

Nope. The iPad Mini runs full iPad apps. Also much better for things like web browsing. All due to it being over twice as big. And don't forget that it's a lot cheaper.
