Once again rumours make us think things are coming when they dont none of todays announcements mean anything to me i want new top range ipad the company is so slow at makings things better

I'm tempted by the refurbished Air 2 with 64GB.
The new iPad is heavier and ticker (I wonder if the Air 2 cases will fit). I'll have a look at benchmarks comparing A8X with A9 with the iPad resolution and make my choice

...weren't they selling a 2012 MacBook Pro for 5 years never updating it a few months ago
No. No they weren't.
Yes. Yes they were. (Edit: but, more like 4 1/2 yrs.) Actually they sold the (then entry level) 2012 MBP 13" w/optical drive all the way up to a few months ago, only discontinued it with latest release of new MBP lineup. About a year ago or so it was a little buried, but still available.

In fact, you can still get Apple certified refurbished ones for $829 here: http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_pro

The iPad Mini 2 was discontinued as well.
There are all kinds of Mini 2 refurbished models now available starting at $209 (not that I recommend a 32-bit A7 device) http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/ipad

I think the Australian pricing is wrong on the website.

iPad mini 4 starts at 399 USD or 719 AUD.
399 USD = 570 AUD after GST is added.

By contrast, the "iPad" starts at 329 USD or 469 AUD which is a direct currency conversion plus GST.

I'm baffled why they now only offer a 128GB iPad Mini. surely the whole point of the mini is for it to be the cheapest and lowest specced model? I have never even got close to filling my 16GB Mini 2, I have no need for 128GB of storage on what is effectively a casual reading and web surfing device.

Sooo...we have.

iPad Mini 4 - $399 (Starts at 128GB)
iPad 9.7" - $329 (Starts at 32GB)
iPad 9.7" Pro - $599 (Starts at 32GB)
iPad 12.9" Pro - $799 (Starts at 32GB)

I think we are at the point where Apple should only offer 128 GB and 256 GB models.

iPad Mini 4 - $399 - 128 GB
iPad 9.7" - $429 - 128 GB
iPad 9.7" Pro - $599 -128 GB
iPad 12.9" Pro - $799 - 128 GB

Mini 4 and regular 9.7" should only come with 128 GB and Pro models should have 128 GB as base and 256 GB as $100 options. Otherwise, they should drop the pricing on Pro models by $100 and keep it like cause as it stands the 9.7" Pro with mere 32GB at $599 is way too expensive.

iPad Mini 4 - $399 - 128 GB
iPad 9.7" - $429 - 128 GB
iPad 9.7" Pro - $499 -32 GB
iPad 12.9" Pro - $699 - 32 GB

Good point. Very strange.

I had a iPad Mini 16GB that I quickly filled, half music, half apps. I upgraded to an iPad Mini 2 32GBthat I slowly filled, now with music, apps, and lots of data and photos. I think I could fill an iPad Mini 4 at 128GB by keeping all my music, most of my photos, games, apps, app data, favorite movies, etc on the device.

That said, I'm eager to have a more capable camera, so my upgrade path may be the iPhone 8 instead.

T: So Joni, what can we do for a mini update ?
J: Dunno
T: Maybe Phil ?
P: (snore, snore)... Eeaahhh, put A9 in it ?
T: it already has...
P: Then make it PRODUCT(RED)
T: No, then people think it's an iPod Touch
P: They're stupid. We already have a red iPod Touch
T: No that's an iPhone.
P: Then give it a new name
T: Too much effort editing all the webpages
P: upgrade RAM
T: Yess. OMG - I'm soo excited to introduce the brand new ehhh... what again ?

I think these revisions to the iPad make a lot of sense. The iPad Pro is their main focus... but now they've streamline the entry/budget iPad options and sizes. Also, it's looking like there will possibly be an iPad Mini Pro in the future once those models get updated this Summer of Fall.

Interesting stuff...

We still have our mini retina (2) from 2013, the year it came out. We rarely use it except when we travel ($10/month on Verizon) we use to use it for a lot of streaming to Apple TV but we don't have to do that anymore now that all of our TV watching apps are on Apple TV (we don't have cable or satellite).

I would probably use it more if I could write on it with an apple pencil, we do often wish it had Touch ID, but not enough to upgrade. We bought 3 that year, 3 family members got them as Christmas gifts, 2 wifi 16gb and 1 cellular 32gb. We have bought zero since, they are great little devices, I don't think any of them are near capacity. One user initially had issues with the 16gb wifi, she traveled for work and wanted to watch movies on it, but the 16gb only holds a few movies. She has since changed jobs so that isn't an issue anymore but every so often she asks "when are we going to look at getting new iPads?" I keep saying there is no reason to.

for 'future' proofing you obviously want the latest but either ipad will be supported for a long time 5-6 years

Since Air 2 has 2GB of RAM I think (and hope) it will be supported for a long time.
I wouldn't buy an Air or a Mini 2 refurbished today, but Air 2 is still great

This is a big issue for us now. We have over 600 iPad Mini's deployed and we like them, mostly Mini 2's and the price has been very good. With their only now being a 128GB option Mini 4, the price of a mini for us has just doubled. We are now going to have to evaluate if we continue with iPads in the future. Well done Cook.

That is such a bizarre pricing lineup. Why no $299 iPad mini4 with 32GB?

And nearly $300 to jump from a 9.7" to a 9.7" Pro? Is that really worth it to anyone?
Basically twice the price! I'm confused...

I just don't know why they couldn't do a 32GB mini for $299, surely they'd still make a little coin on it.
Because Apple would like to sell you an additional 96GB for $100. Yes not selling a 32GB for $299 is really a jerk move by Apple.
