Still curious what a 2019 iPad would be - if it has an A11 chip that would make it faster than the 10.5" pro which Apple still sells for $649!

We'll be interesting to see if they clean up the product line or continue to clutter it up.

All we need now is a budget 'Performa" line of products to really go back in time. /s

So am assuming this new entry level iPad will be compatible with Pencil 2? Or are they planning to keep both versions of pencil around for the sake of entry level ipads.

I like painting stuff on iPad, but the pro is too expensive for me to indulge in.

They should lower the price of the flagship products, not making something to annoy you into buying the overpriced flagship products.

Since the iPad 2018 costs starts from 329 dollars and has bigger screen, the new iPad mini probably will start from 249

Personally, I love my iPad Mini 2, and would really welcome an updated model. The mini, for me, is better for prolonged use when you're holding it. Back when I had a larger iPad (first iPad 2) I didn't want to have it in my hands for long. It needed to be propped up somewhere to use it. The Mini I can hold for hours on end (important when you're cramped in coach on airplanes) without wanting to just put it away. It's also a better size for sticking in say, a coat pocket, if I needed to run out somewhere where I'll be waiting for a while.

I just wish they didn't consider it 'entry level'. If they do introduce a Mini 5, but give it 4 year old tech, then no thanks, I'm out. I'll stick with what I've got. But if they can really overhaul it, then I'd welcome the new PRO design scaled down to the external dimensions of the iPad Mini. Something that will be powerful and portable would be a dream.

No thanks. I still have a mini4 laying around and its super small compared to what im using now. The mini shouldnt exist in 2019

Shouldn't exist? Many of us here love the mini form factor. Some activities, such as book reading to name just one, don't necessarily benefit from a larger device.

I agree that it shouldn't be entry level. I'd love an 8" version of the iPad Pro.

Good to hear. Fingers crossed for an iPhone Mini in the upcoming years..my SE is starting to show it's age, but I will hold onto it until a smaller iphone comes.
I would really love this too. I finally gave up my SE because my company gave me a 7, but I miss the smaller form factor.

I'd buy one immediately, but unfortunately you're 99.9% right.
I'm with you on that. I was hoping that in March 2018 the Mini 4 would be updated... same screen, same chassis, upgraded CPU, RAM, and support for the Apple Pencil. When Apple produced the 9.7 iPad instead (at the price that it did), I concluded that it was extremely unlikely that an updated Mini would be forthcoming. (That's when I bought the 2018 iPad)

IF an updated Mini is coming, it won't be a "proper" upgrade... lower-quality screen at the very least.

A11 18 month old processor and call it the new iPad mini 2019

Apple is so predictable.

Whatever works.

$199 should be the target price point for the iPad mini 32gb with A11. I may bite at that price.

But knowing Apple. Probably looking at $299 iPad mini A11. And $349 A111 9.7 budget full size iPad.

If Apple dropped the iPad 2018 to a reasonable (for them!) price point, rather than shuttering it, I’d consider one in the future.

Had to sell my iPad Pro 10.5” for financial reasons, and, as much as I welcome the larger screen on the XR I do miss the iPad from time to time.

You mean $329 isn’t a reasonable price point? o_O

Pleeeeease give it the same design as the newest iPad Pros... then I shall be tempted to buy one!

Yessss! Liquid Retina display on the new iPads and I wouldn’t mind paying a higher price on those.

The Mini fits perfectly into the lower pockets of lab coats... don't underestimate that market, doctors/practices with the $$ to buy new ones.
I’m not saying it doesn’t exist but I have never seen a doc in a hospital with an iPad mini. I’ve seen many 9.7” iPads though... often paired with a Plus or Max iPhone.

The healthcare iPad mini market seems like a pretty small niche market, likely easily eclipsed by even the healthcare 9.7” iPad niche market.

Just because it doesn't fit your needs doesn't mean it "shouldn't exist".

I'm still using an old mini for the things I need a tablet for -- Size of the mini is perfect for my usage, and the larger iPads are less suitable.

Why? My iPad mini is my favorite device that I own.
It's great for my hour commute on the train twice a day.
Everyone I know who owns a mini loves it.
Glad to see it being updated.

Exactly! I have an iPad mini, iPad 9.7" (provided by work), and an iPad pro 12.9".
The iPad pro stays at home. I usually carry the 9.7 and mini everyday. I hardly use the 9.7. I would not have gotten it, but work gave it to me and I carry it if I need to do some work stuff.

I love the mini for my daily commute and at home use. I use my mini to read, and some media consumption and the mini size is perfect! Overall, the mini gets used the most. I have not gotten the mini 4 because of how old it is, so just waiting for an update so I can replace my mini 1 that is so slow to use when browsing websites with the RAM that it has.

I had a Mini 2 that was getting sluggish so I sold and switched from my iPhone 6 to iPhone X thinking that would satisfy my need for some extra screen. A couple years went by and I felt a void, especially after playing GOLF CLASH. Someone bought me an iPad 9.7, 2018 model for Xmas and while I like it, the Mini is definitely more desirable size wise.

I may get into trouble for selling yet another gift to get this new Mini. ;)

Apple should (and probably already did that) have a brainstorm on why the Android tablet market is more or less dead in the water while Apple always kept some type of competitive entry point iPad while the iPhone is starting to struggle while it spirals towards the Moon.
