migrated set of microphones now centered near the front-facing camera, and a differ

The above is quoting the ifixit result. I’ve asked before about the moved microphone, because I want to put a glass screen protector on the mini 5, and I’ve only been able to find a mini 4 one. I’ve been told that will be fine as the microphone is on the back, but this says there are microphones on the front.

Can anyone who already has the mini 5 verify this for me? I know there is a microphone on the back, but what are these front ones?

No microphone on the front, just the upper side and the back. The picture shows the mics, using a case with the iPad.

I'm pretty happy with it on my mini 4. In all fairness I do see an occasional stutter, but it's not common place at all. 99% of the time it runs quite smoothly. Off topic for a second but I'm really impressed with the graphics and also how you can stop on one device like the ipad and start again on your iPhone and you are in the same exact spot so you don't miss a beat.

Noticed that myself when picking it up on my XR! =)
VERY very cool that these new high-end titles are running on hardware going back years....
I really hope the Apple Arcade games are of this caliber & support the same hardware; now that I know it’s possible, lol.

To tie it back into the article... I think that this new mini may be a nice little, fairly future-proof gaming tablet for child (or an adult, for that matter).

I so wanted to buy the iPad Mini refresh but I am struggling to justify it. The biggest things I was looking for, in addition to a processor jump, was Apple Pencil 2 support, potentially a smaller profile/bezels, potentially better screen res, and/or north-south stereo sound (top/bottom). I use my Mini daily to consume media. I wanted to either improve on that experience or add new use cases like a good quality doodle pad. Sorry, not buying into the Pencil 1. Overall, thankful a refresh was done but not the refresh for me. This is the form factor that fits my backpack sleeve perfectly and travels so well on planes. Guess I'll be nursing my Mini 4 until it dies.

I like FaceID on my iPhone. But don't have an opinion on wanting it on a Mini 5 I might be buying in the near future.

I suspect if it was included it would have bumped the price up in order to meet margin requirements. I like the Mini 5 as it's priced now and likely would not pay a higher price.

Apple did an excellent job hitting the sweet spot on features and performance vs price.

Other than lowering the price to sub-399 and/or bump the base storage to 128GB, I see no reason to complain. Actually the only reason I recommended either or both of the prior recommendations is to bring the broad appeal the mini had when it was initially released. I remembering it was the best iPad Apple offered minus the non-Retina display at the time.

If anyone is complaining, this device is not for you. To be honest it’s perfect, I feel the iPad Pro line seems to be trying to finds its identity. iPad Mini is a hand-held tablet that has the silicone of the iPhone XR including the RAM. No FaceID, not a problem. I was hoping if Apple could have narrowed the sides so it would accommodate prolonged one hand usage for more users. I love this thing!

Do wish that they had added a flash to it!

The Mini is perfect for taking photos, holding it is comfortable not awkward as with the larger iPads when taking photos, and it's great for viewing and showing the photos, too.

But a flash would have opened up evening and dark room photography... it works on the iPhones and certain iPad Pros, why not bring it to the Mini line?!

Still, it's a great device...
