Very happy if this is true. My greatest fear with the new mini is that they would make it bigger. 8.38inches sounds like the device size will remain unchanged, just the bezels are changing.

Hopefully they give this a quality decent screen. I'd love some kind of OLED (basically anything where blacks can be true blacks) but maybe that is asking too much.
I hope you are correct. I'd love to have a smaller iPhone (but with the best available cameras on it)....and then go with a small iPad in my cargo pocket.... maybe Apple makes a cool keyboard for it...hands free!

How big was the original iPad's screen? (The actual screen, not the size of the iPad). Would this be about the same?

Isn’t the iPhone Pro Max essentially this, or close enough?

This should help visualize the difference:

you always pay more for portability and also extra features that cost more
?

Not sure what point you're making here; I'm saying that the people who always pop up in iPad mini threads saying "why not just get an iPhone Pro Max" seem to neglect that a) it's still much smaller than an iPad mini and b) the mini is about half the cost.

Obviously you pay more for extra features, but I don't know what that's got to do with anything.

Actually, 9” is closer to 8.36 than to 9.7”. And, anyways, the 9.7” iPad is much, much bigger than a hipothetical 9” iPad mini without bezels. Also, the 9.7” iPad is discontinued, the regular iPad is now 10.2”

For the same size of a 10.2” I have my 11” IPad Pro. I only would go with a smaller iPad if it had a big enough display for my needs, and for me, I think a 9” display would be the best balance between portability, a confortable smart keyboard folio, and screen size.

That’s just my opinion, if I cannot express my thoughts in a free and respectful way, just let me know
If the new mini is 9 inches then the iPad mini 5 is my last iPad mini and I’ve owned every generation of iPad mini.

Very interested to see where the weight comes in. I'm getting it regardless but I'd be really happy if they could manage to keep it no heavier than the current iPad mini which is 300g/.66 pounds for the wifi version, and about 1.6x the weight of the Kindle Paperwhite which feels crazy light in the hand.

You obviously don’t read books. I on the other hand have over 500 books on my mini and only 11 games. And I surely prefer to watch the occasional movie on it instead of using the phone. I find it amazing that so many people here cannot grasp that. It’s not rocket science.

Looks great. If it comes with the A15 Bionic, which i suspect it will, i will trade in my Ipad Air 3 and pay the rest.

That would be a cleaner lineup, especially since the Air and mini will be very similar in feature/design and just different in display size. Kind of like the iPad Pro.

iPad Pro (12.9, 11)
iPad Air (10.9, 8.3)
iPad (10.2)
Except that 95% of the world moved on from the imperial system over 50 years ago.
