Why can’t they leave it 7.9 AND minimize the bezel area?

That’s the whole point of being “Mini”.

edit: same external size with wider screen would improve aspect ratio though.

.
Yes I wouldn’t mind if it stays the same size.

The 8.whatever they said is the screen size, not physical size. So reducing the bezels is exactly what it sounds like they are doing.

I think what @danpass is saying is that the overall physical size can be reduced by keeping the screen size as 7.9" and just reducing the bezels.

That would be nice too IMO - will definitely improve portability, but I don't feel too strongly about it.

Personally, I am happy with the current physical size. You don't want an iPad too small either.

I'm confused... so today is already October?

or did the rumor get it wrong and Apple just announced the new iPad Mini 5 minutes ago?

again, people who buys an ipad ...already have a phone...so your point is strange thats why i was asking your point exactly....the ipad will always be a secondary device..less portability, less features and so on...its like a monitor, you can have a 27" display under 1000$ but no features at all

So i guess, people who are asking why not take an iphone max....i think they target those users who are in a transition of a device... want to change their phone.
I don’t know what you’ve misunderstood or taken issue with here.

Someone said “isn’t this basically iPhone Pro Max”, someone else said “no, it’s much bigger” and I said “and also cheaper.” Then you’ve gone off on this. Sorry, but I’m struggling to follow this conversation.

The 8.3" ipad mini screen area is only 8% larger than the old, assuming it has the same aspect ratio as the 11". Also an iPad Air on sale at $499 and the regular price of the new Mini also at $499, makes this a tough decision for me personally. They seem otherwise identical, aside from the cameras.

120Hz display is not happening either. Do people not realize the pathetic internals they've given the Mini's over the years. I mean, I wish it would come with an A15 and 120Hz refresh rate but that's just not happening.
That’s a fair point. I ended up preordering it despite the missing pro-motion. It does, however, have the A15 Bionic after all. Side-grading from the iPad Pro 11.

The most exciting thing launched today! The Series 7 Watch and iPhone 13s were exactly as expected…incredibly incremental refreshes of last years phones.

Unless I am reading the site completely wrong it looks like they did make it physically smaller and gave it a larger screen. The height seems to be around 9 mm lower.
