I loved having an iPad Mini for 4 years. But at this point I'm much happier using a larger iPad and if I were to buy a new iPad tomorrow it would be that updated 'regular' iPad at close to $300.
Then you don’t understand some peoples need for an extremely portable tablet which the 10.2” is not.

If there is one...

Personally, I think this is a test release by Apple to see if the Mini still has a market.
It does otherwise it would have never redesigned the shell of it. According to Apple professionals use it in many industries and consumers as well including children as it’s small enough to be held in those little hands.

If there is no iPhone mini 14, Apple will reused that for some 2023 SE version.

I agree, but I'm quite surprised they didn't do it for the launch of this device.
Unfortunately in the last few years Apple’s QA/QC for OS versions have been slipping. Compare the recent releases iOS13 missing many features at launch only to be added later.

It is much closer to 3:2 than 16:10.

2266x1488 = 1.52
3:2 = 1.5
16:10 = 1.6
From the examples I have seen it’s wider while being a bit narrower compared to previous which would lead to a better movie watching experience with shorter black bars.

Well iPad used to be 4:3, then the 11" changed it, but not that much. It's seems that iPadOS is not optimized for the 3:2 aspect ratio. You can clearly see it.
The 12.9” iPad Pro is still 4:3. There are several aspect ratios for iPads now. 3:2 is a pretty normal display aspect ratio. iPadOS will adapt.

That's true. Usually it took 3rd party devs some time to update the apps to fit a new aspect ratio properly, but now it seems Apple has problems with it too.

I guess there are too many iPad aspect ratios.

Remember the iPhone 6/6+ days with most apps not optimized for the larger display 😛

MKBHD’s honesty is refreshing he clearly admits in the beginning that he always wonders what type of customer/user buys the mini and went so far to say it’s not the product for his uses and that the only person he knows that uses one is his family/relative that was gifted one.

It would have been nice if he provided the mini 6 to this family member for their impressions vice his as he is not the target audience.

This was certainly a “mini” review of the mini 6 and am not sure why he did not consider asking iPad mini users for opinions. He then goes on to say that he would prefer an iPadPro mini but I suspect he would not be pleased with the battery life and the price or something else like performance.

It’s like asking me to review a PlayStation or XBOX or Switch that I have no interest in and just saying yeah it’s a good device but I would like XYZ feature(s) but I know deep down even if it had those I would not consider it.

Just an oddball review tbh.

I'm not worried about battery life, frankly. I use my 2018 11" Pro for entertainment while sitting on long flights, quick proofing and editing shots and the obligatory surfing on the couch or the coffee shop. If I can get 8 hours of constant use out of it, which is what I've been getting on my 2018 Pro, then that's just peachy. If not, I've got an Anker 20000 PD pack in my satchel and USB-C plugs at my workstation at home.

3 is too many? 3:2, 1.43:1, and 4:3. Give it 6 months. Everything will catch up.

Not 3, but 4. 4:3 iPads, new iPad Mini, iPad Pro 11" and the Air 2020 also has slightly different ratio than 11". And yes, even 3 is a lot. Used to be just 4:3 until 2018. 11" aspect ratio is fine, but the 4:3 is still the best for overall use.

I think there should be 2 aspect ratios max.

The iPad Air is 1.44:1 instead of 1.43:1. I think that difference is pretty negligible.

If you can get 8 hours on average i think it’s worth it. Also if you’re doing anything intensive like watching a Netflix show, does anyone know if disabling background app refresh can be a positive contributor to conserving battery life? I’m thinking yes but I’m no expert LOL
Are you using it 8 hours at a stretch with no access to power the whole time? that sounds exhausting. I'd want to recharge my batteries sometime during that period.

It's actually right in there, you just didn't read well enough =) What I want is a 7-8" screen that still fits into a pocket. Granted it's not going into my front pocket like a Galaxy Fold would, but it will still fit into my back pocket or a scrubs pocket. That's why I don't carry my surface pro with me unless I'm traveling, or specifically need it, I would rather have both my hands free when not using it. If the Surface Go was 7-8" I'd most definitely be using that, especially reading these reviews with most of them being disappointed by the mini 6 battery life as that was one of the reasons I opted for the mini.

I can use iOS for the most part, it's just that in regular use little irksome stuff always pops up. User accounts, background refreshing, very limited window snapping, browser extensions, lack of ability to customize, etc. Things which by themselves aren't a big deal, but when you start adding them up end up eroding iOS as an OS substantially.
FYI - iOS 15 adds browser extension support

Rumors say that the iPhone 14 will introduce a more affordable iPhone max size. While I know people are saying that the iPhone and iPad are totally different products, I still consider that the phablet market has cannibalized the small tablet market. As a result, you might be right in the next 3 - 5 years.
