I’m not going to make any predictions, but I will say that based on Apples history of very infrequent updates to the iPad mini, I wouldn’t count on any update this year. I also know that most mini updates have been minor ones. Hope for the best, but don’t get caught up in all these BS predictions and guesses.
Good advise. I am in the need for one and have been waiting on the next update so I am hopeful but will take a wait and see attitude. Sure hope my wait is not in vain .

I do see a new design change but not an A15 unless a new iPad Air is coming because the 2019 iPad mini and air had the same chip it would probably have an A14 chip
edit: I also looked into the past idk if it’s rigot or not but the mini from 2014 even had a worse chip than the air in 2014

I don't understand the appeal of making the physical size larger. Obviously I get the rationale for the larger screen, but if they are increasing the actual package size then I don't understand why a consumer wouldn't just buy an iPad air. The entire appeal of the iPad mini was that it was small, small enough to barely be pocketable.

This is the ultimate consumption portable device. The screen real estate, along with support for Dolby Vision HDR and Spatial Surround...you will be immersed in the movies and video you watch on this device...plane rides won't be as tedious as it once was if this device comes to fruition...

If this device comes real and sees the light of day, I am selling my iPad Mini 5 and upgrading to this...especially if, as rumors are pointing out, this device comes with that magnificent MiniLED screen!

To think there's people on this forum that will celebrate this new iPad Mini but say they don't see the point in having a foldable iPhone 😂

I want this new iPad Mini with cellular but wish it could fold to fit in my pocket. I could see myself carrying this in a large jacket pocket when commuting. My 12.9 inch iPad Pro is great for home use (in fact I wish they would sell a 14 or 16 inch iPad for home use) but terrible for on the go use. The 11 inch is not big enough for home but too big for commuting without a bag or holding it. If this new mini can fit in my jacket pocket it'll be the perfect companion device for an iPhone when out and about, going to the local coffee shop, etc. For that reason I hope they don't increase the physical size too much, but rather shrink it down.

Please no camera bump! Also will sorely miss an on device headphone jack (inevitable) for live music creation and performance, but would love to see an Apple designed usb-c dock, with 4 x usb-c connectors (now possible with usb 4 right?), and they can stick the headphone jack in there instead. I’d settle for that. Had enough of usb a at this point. Magnets to attach it to the smart connector?!

Shocked that macrumors could use the word "mini" without mentioning how abysmal 12 mini sales have been

Maybe, but still the 10th best-selling smartphone worldwide for 2020.

And confused about why you’re connecting 2 unrelated products only because they share the moniker of “Mini.” The iPad version has been a proven quantity that has always been seemingly a popular size in the Apple tablet line-up.

Do we have any sales figures for the iPad mini 5?
Not formally but they’ve been strong. Every business that has been using the mini 4 for years easily upgraded to the 5 when it dropped. Airlines, restaurants, local merchants and food trucks have all adopted the form factor and have been asking for a replacement for the 4 that didn’t require buying new cases, enclosures and POS stations to accommodate them.

Exactly. This is NOT an iPad Mini. Very disappointing. The size of the Mini was perfect for slipping into a coat pocket. Perfect for healthcare professionals and commuters.

And in the same span of time, we've seen two newer iPad Pros and no new iPad minis.
iPad mini was updated in March 2019. No new design as the mini is still a niche with specific vertical markets that would prefer the exact same ID for the upcoming model, but it look like Apple has relented and we’ll get a Air/Pro inspired design instead. If the mini sold like gangbusters, we would have seen more iterations than we have.

They may be a little upset soon though as this mini will likely require those updated cases and enclosures.

As written by others before: Believe it when I see it...

a.) the iPad mini does fit in a large jacket pocket (those on the inside of course). At least it fits in all of mine...
b.) the average iPad mini User is rarely an iPhone PRO MAX user.. Unless you unfold an iPhone Mini into an iPad Mini this isn't as good as you might think it is...

except this is not the 12 mini we are discussing and secondly iPad Mini in history is a very good product, cheaper than the 12 mini, the smallest non iPod Touch available which isn’t a phone and is more reliable than the 12 mini considering next years iPhone lineup won’t have a “mini”
