It must be a QC issue. I can not replicate—landscape, portrait, light and dark modes, and there is no jittering or jelly effect. The scrolling is actually smoother on the 6 than it was on the 5 and especially noticeable in the kindle app. I’ve tested on websites, the kindle app, and other apps… nothing.
Agreed. No jelly scroll here. Must be a bad batch!

Man this is so disappointing as I was planning to get the new Mini for reading books and comics.

Now I'm gonna wait and see.
I’m loving my new Mini on which I’ve done tons of reading since the 24th. No regrets, but we have to make our own judgments!

I’m holding off until I hear of a resolution. My store(s) still have stock but I don’t want to risk it.
While you are holding off, I will keep enjoying and loving my Mini, upon which I cannot detect any jellyscrolling. I waited years for Apple to shrink those dang bezels and I just HAD to have one NOW! No regrets (so far).

What cannot be fixed with an update is the poor fuzzy dull screen. Putting the 5 next to the 6 there was no reason to spend the $900 on the new one
We have a 5 and a 6 and do not perceive the screen differences as you do. Also, the 6 isn’t $900….

Please stop lying to defend your precious Apple.

I have an iPad mini 5 and an iPad mini 6 next to each other.

The 5 is rock solid scrolling my documents. The 6 looks like you’re reading on a boat in the middle of the sea.

Apple solved the problem before but this time Tim Cook thought he could push his margins even higher.
We have both a 5 and a 6 as well and I am not lying - I simply do not agree.

I returned mine today for a 11" iPad Pro. I was sort of on the fence about the size and when I noticed mine had this too it made the decision easy. I am really liking the pro.
The Pro is great - just not portable. The devices seem to me to be for very different purpose. Glad you are as happy with your Pro as I am with my Mini.

This article is a good example of how poor the comments have become on the MacRumors forums.

For comparison, have a look at the comments on the Ars Technica article on this same subject.

The contrast between the reactionary hot takes here and the informed analysis at Ars Technica is like night and day.
Despite many many Apple products over the years, this is my first foray into MacRumors as a member. My first impression is that the name should be “MacBashers“! I love constructive debate/criticism, but this seems eerily similar to the tone that has wrecked FB and other sites. I guess it is a national malady. Gotta agree with Bobob on this one.

Yes, I did sign up to comment on this topic…… because there was a lot of miss information being shared and I had real answers…. If you choose to take opposition with me that’s fine, but my statements are still accurate ….. and you still have a choice to return yours or not buy it. My life goes on no matter what you think of me or what I say
Well, I have appreciated the info you have brought to the table.

Are you sitting in harsh judgment about your own Mini 6 or everyone else’s? For the record, mine is perfect so far and I’m loving it.

Spec to price ratio is an easy thing to do if you work in the technology sphere. It is not worth it outside the average joe consumer who is not sure how technology should be priced, IMO.

So glad I didn’t wait! Risk assessment is an interesting thing!
Not any real risk when you can easily get your money back and don't have anything to actually lose.
As long as you're happy with your purchase that's all that matters at the end of the day
Pretty sure I'll be able to pick one up fairly easy if I decide to get one. I'm glad I spent the money on a PlayStation 5 last week, it arrived Monday. Came close to also buying a Xbox X Tuesday. It was in my cart and locked in for 15 mins at Best Buy. Decided not to get it and put the money on something else.

One would almost conclude from this thread that people ordinarily scroll so that they can have the satisfaction of seeing the uniform and regular motion of parallel lines.

But when most people scroll, it is simply for the purpose of seeing the next screen of content.

I think what is happening here is that we see demographics of device configs that Apple purposely distributes components differently. There have been instances in the past where Apple did the following across the same model:
- use SanDisk-only flash controllers and memory on entry-level MBAs
- use both SanDisk or Samsung flash controllers and memory on midrange MBAs
- use Samsung-only flash controllers and memory on max-storage models of MBA

I believe (read: not know) that we are probably getting less cases of people not being able to reproduce it because I suspect that the better display panels (Apple is known to use multiple suppliers because they had a lot of production issues in the past where products could simply not get assembled because of one key component; plus it's cheaper) are locked in the higher-tier configs (Cellular, 256, maybe both). This is the reason why you can't find a model in an Apple Store not showing this behavior.

While it is not essentially the same model, I was able to reproduce it mildly on an iPad mini 4 WiFi but my iPad mini 5 256 GB Cellular does not have it, not even in the slightest and not even with SloMo videos looking for it.

Can people here seeing or not seeing the issue confirm as to which model they have?

Not seeing it on 64 Cellular

Confirmed. And as usual: once seen it cannot be unseen…

Had a chance to use one at a local store, and it's obvious . . . the iPads next to it (with a larger screen; which is where I would expect such 'refresh issue(s) to show) did not exhibit such obviousness.

Even tough the effect is kinda cool-looking, i am gad I didn't immediately drop my dosh on Teh Mini.

It's actually worse on smaller screens, more of what's shown is in your field of vision (focus), that's why you can see it so well on the Mini.

Not really much of a Show Stopper, for me . . . just odd.

Coming from primarily a desktop past (with multiple architectures, and with many different types of operating systems), it seems counter-intuitive to see a smaller display perform in a more awkward manner than a larger ;)

I have not noticed similar behaviour on any of my iPhones....

This upsets me bc I am about to pull the trigger on a new Mini6 with the pencil2 to study and read with. No other Mini works with the pencil2. Chase is running a promotion where points are worth 50% more.
