Love the mini. TBH - iPadOS (currently) doesn't need a spec bump. It needs:
- OLED
- 120Hz

120hz on Mini and I'm sold. I loved my Mini 6 but it just felt underpowered when swapping between an M1 MBP and a 14 pro.

The mini size is perfect for reading, and great for a simple note taking device.

Let’s be real. It’s not happening, but damn would 120Hz be nice on the mini. And OLED + 120Hz would just be incredible. One day…

Edit: Oh and Face ID too. I put up with Touch ID on the Wake/Sleep button but I really dislike it compared to how Face ID is a passive method of unlocking.

As my eyes age, I would love it Apple would make a mini with a color, hi-PPI, eInk screen. Might not be great at something like gaming or screen animations, but would be great for reading - especially by ambient light.
E-ink displays are rather low-contrast, especially the color ones. No good for my aging eyes.

You want more features, then get out the credit card as Apple offers stair step improving features as the expenditure gets bigger. The operative phrase is "up selling" at Apple.
Regarding the iPad mini, the issue is that Apple doesn’t offer a choice, there’s only one model (disregarding storage, cellular, and color options).

Technically it would be the first to support the second gen Apple Pencil, my iPad Mini 5 supports the first gen very nicely.

My feelings on improvements. Let’s have a maximum size of 512gb, elimination of the “jelly scroll”, 2nd gen pencil support and a keyboard case. The last one of that wish list is what stopped me from updating to a 6. I love my Brydge 7.9 keyboard. I find it easy to type on even when it’s long screeds of text.

I own both iPad Pro sizes along with the minis, and I have always bought the new mini thinking, “this new version I will use!” Nope. I always gravitate to the 11. I have given up in it. That’s it. For me the 11” is the only version for me. My 12.9 while nice, is rarely used as well.

I hope they keep the jelly-scroll just to spite you guys! Talk about an overblown issue.

Mini 6 supports the Apple Pencil (2nd generation) already.

Giving it an A17 around October/November might work, but I could also see just A16 with 6GB of RAM - it'd still be a good modest upgrade. Add in some Wi-Fi and BT updates and maybe a new color or two and they'll be set for a few years.

Why not give us Apple Watch unlocking? Never understood why that is Mac only.

It is all about the screen for me (jelly scroll). That is the only reason I don't have an iPad 6 mini now and I've owned 4 other minis and miss the form factor for certain things. I can live without some of the other aspects, like I don't really care for the aspect ratio change as it feels too narrow now compared to previous versions. I also feel it was priced about $50 too high.

Anyway, for those who don't see the jelly scroll issue or do and it doesn't bother you, great for you.

Given the Mini is essentially a mini iPad Air, it wouldn't surprise me if it got an M1 (or M2 if updating at the same time as the Air) - probably underclocked and/or with fewer GPU cores. In the same line of the Mini mirroring the Air features, I wouldn't expect Promotion display or Face ID until the larger Air gets them.

it's weird the iPad mini has small specs and has display issues but it's still fun to use for me. so portable and I can take it work and use for notes and overall media content anywhere. it's one device which I'm glad I got a cellular plan for it.
When I was at the hospital, I carried it all the time. It fit perfectly in a standard lab coat side pocket.

The biggest improvement a Mini 7 needs, IMO, is a better display. I never noticed the so-called jelly scroll that many have complained about, but the Mini 6 display gave me instant headaches and eyestrain every time I looked at it. I bought one when launched and sent it back after 3 days. The Mini 5 (which I still own) had a much clearer display with no eyestrain and the difference was obvious when I looked at each tablet, side by side. I suspect that the changes for the Mini 7 will be limited to a faster chip and maybe a couple of other marginal improvements.

Im going to go off on a bit of a rant here so please forgive me... The Ipad Mini is hands down the Ipad with the upmost potential and popularity. Its the right screen size and portability and if you want the best tablet experence on the market, the Ipad mini has the potential to be it. If you go with an Air or a Pro, you might as well buy the magic keyboard case as well because those make great laptop/tablet hybrids.

The problem with the current mini is laziness. Its got the older processor (well now it is), theres no valid reason why they could not have thrown in face id into the thing, and the screen is just, bad (for an apple product).

If they came out with an Ipad Mini pro with 120HZ screen (be wonderful if it was OLED but ill take LED) and FaceID and fix the scaling issue, id buy that in a heart beat.

I bought the Ipad Mini 6 multiple times, and i tried so hard to love this thing and it just was too compromised compaired to the Ipad Pro 11 inch M2 and my Iphone 14 pro max.

Once you go faceID and 120HZ, going back to that horrid touch id in the power button and that jelly scrolling screen, its like, what are you doing apple, i know you can do so much better and you dont!

The scaling issue is something that can be fixed in software yet they cant be bothered. At least give us that! How is it widgets are bigger on a smaller screen (the Iphone 14 pro max) then on the Ipad Mini, yet its harder to read and use them on the bigger screen of the mini? I cant for the life of me figure that out and why apple allowes that!

The Jelly scrolling is distracting when you look for it, and it feels like you have a defective device when you do notice it. Not the feeling i want when i spent 800 dollars on a premium apple device.

The fingerprint sensors just feel like the worse route they could have went, they are bad compared to the old home screen, idk why they couldent put in a face id or under screen fingerprint sensor into the thing, and whats worse, is its slow!

Im so used to just lifting my iphone or ipad to use it and having my face scanned to unlock, it feels like such a step backwards.

I get it, they made the device to fit a price range, and thats fine but its such a compromized device when it could be a dream ipad for many people. Its the right size to be portable, and not overbearing. It feels good in the hands and you use it, but its just so compromized to me its so fustrating.

Apple, give me a mini version of my current Ipad Pro 11 inch and i am over the moon happy!

I fully agree. If they don't resolve the jelly scrolling and scaling issues, why bother!?
