A minor spec bump could also include upgrades to the front and rear cameras, potentially bringing features like Photonic Engine to the iPad for the first time. ProRes video recording, Audio zoom, stereo audio recording, Portrait mode, and Portrait Lighting support are all plausible new features in this area.
Thats one area the iPad mini could really benefit from. Aside from the updated display and chip the Mini 7 has the potential to be used for extended time video/audio recording because of its larger/higher capacity battery. The current iPad Mini 6 seems pretty dated with its camera implementation. It's great for FaceTime though. Of course its depends on how expensive it is to implement these improvements.

The mini is my favorite and all time most used iPad.
Same.
Starting with the OG iPad, I've had several iPads over the years. The mini 6 is easily my favorite/most used iPad to date. A wonderful culmination of years of Apple R&D. Amongst other things - when paired with Pencil 2, it is a perfect mobile sketchbook. (On a side note: it also pairs well with my week-old space gray 15" MBA - quite the laptop).

Of all the spec bump potential, improved screen res is my top request. Followed by processing power. Both seem feasible - with the latter a lock. The only camera I have used, more than once, is the front-facing camera for an occasional FaceTime. That is not a device on which I take photos. That it can? cool. But not how I use mine. Otherwise, it's a pretty fantastic iPad. Interested to watch its evolution.

I have a feeling some of the people complaining about the Mini 6's screen haven't seen how bad (but still usable) a low-end tablet screen can be. Everything is a compromise and I'm happy to see iPads in the lineup for less than $500.

Mini 6 already supports Pencil 2 for drawing and writing, but not the "hover" feature that other iPads have.

be interesting what chip they will give it. guessing won't be M chip. would like the option for stage manager on the iPad mini.
Wouldn’t an M chip make the most sense? Im thinking an M2 chip if it’s released this year. They might have to throttle the chip but overall it would work and be cost efficient for Apple.

Have to say that while I'd like a mini 7 (lots of assumption, but almost certainly true), I might well wait for the 7 and hope that there are some good deals on the 6.

I like my iPad Pro 11" but it is rather large and heavy to carry around. A lot of the the time what I really want is an oversize phone! I can manage to see my iPhone's screen, but my eyes are not improving.

Agreed!

Actually Apple should fix the iPad line Up

- iPad mini - (9-inch)
- iPad mini Pro - (9-inch)
- iPad - (11-inch)
- iPad Pro - (11-inch, 13-inch)
- iPad Ultra - (15-inch)

the actual line up is crazy!

DROP. THE. PRICE.

I really want a mini but the price difference between the entry level iPad and the mini is too great to justify, $150 at best sale price. If you could bring that down to $50-$75 it would be a no brainer (for me)

Promotion
Apple Silicon (Even M1 will be perfectly fine for most use cases)

I will buy it instantly.
