It's rude to hijack threads, so I'm sorry to ask this here. But can you tell me what soft padded case you found? Then I'll know that someone found one that actually fits the mini with the smart cover on.

Thanks in advance!

I don't think you're hijacking the thread, it's about the experience. Sadly, the cover I bought, which advertised as fitting the mini with cover, when I went to try it out, doesn't. The soft case is great, but it's just barely wide enough to fit the mini itself, it won't fit with the smart cover so I wouldn't recommend it. In fact, I'm thinking of sending it back, because that was one of the reasons I bought the soft case, to fit the mini with smart cover and stylus.

What I mean is that people are whining about the lack of retina like it's a fatal flaw. I have both the iPhone 5 and iPad 3 and the mini screen looks fine to me. It's fine for someone to not want a mini, but comments on this forum about the screen being "terrible" are ridiculous.

I guess to some with better vision, the screen may actually look terrible. To me it looks fine....but my vision is not what it used to be.

It's all good. Don't take it personal.

Has anyone spent time using GarageBand, iMovie, or any other memory-intense app on the mini? I'm curious if they run with any lag or crashing...

Only thing I wish they did differently in the ipad mini was to be able to use retina iphone apps in a 960x640 window and not use the old 480x320 window and 2x it pixelated. People wished for this in the ipad1/2 and got it in the ipad3/4 and was hoping since this was a new product as well they would do it.

Just got to wait for a jailbreak I guess.

I think Apple is doing this on purpose: force dev to make a specific app for iPad and not stretch de iPhone App to avoid the Android tablet problem of having almost no tablet app.

Ran iMovie and GarageBand on my iPad Mini. No problems.

I agree (about the iPad Mini screen). It looks fine to me. What it might boil down to is personal preference. If you want a smaller, lighter iPad then take a look at the Mini iPad. If you feel that the screen is too small for you, check out the iPad 2, 3 or 4. Now about the retina display dispute. I, really, can't tell much difference. Perhaps, I'm not just as "visually picky"

Thanks! Together with some other reports on tabs in Safari not having to rebuild all the time after using another app, it looks like the 512mb RAM is doing a good enough job.
I might have to get me a mini than...

I've had, my 32g black model now for 12hours. Played a couple of movies, looked at books, magazines and newspapers. I have used IPads since they came out. Everything on this is clear and crisp (even to my 54 year old eyes). Gotta say when considering the whole package, I love this thing! Currently have 7 others apps open while using Tapatalk and no slow down. My goodness this thing is light! Overall, this looks to be my favorite of the IPads I have owned (IPad 1,3,mini). And it fits in my coat pocket!

Love the size, the weight, the feel, aspect ratio. Speed seems pretty good. While some of aspects of the display looks pretty good - photos, icons etc. - the sharpness of the text is a disappointment.

Bringing webpages side by side with the Nexus 7 you can really see the advantage of the .9" bigger screen and the 4:3 aspect ratio. But again, text is noticeably more pixelated than on my Nexus 7.

Could I ask you (or anyone else that cares to chip in!) how do movies look on the mini? I've recently looked at the iPad 2 and really didn't like how films looked on it, whereas on the 3 I was blown away! I live in the middle of nowhere and so haven't been able to get to a shop that stocks the mini :(

I went to Westfields London l'apple store to have a look at the iPad mini and I thought the screen was good, not perfect, but good, and I have perfect vision. I also have iPhone 5 and iPad 3 so it is noticeable but neglible.

I went at like 2 in the afternoon and they had all capacity models in both colours.

I watched some Netflix last night and it was great.. I was also quite happy with the speakers, way louder and more clear than my ipad2.

You won't regret it. The size and portability of this device is simply amazing. I could have bought a kindle fire but this runs iOS!

My first iPad and I'm surprised by apps like calculator that aren't there

Sadly that glaring omission has never been there, same as weather. Why Apple have chosen to leave these out is a big ???

Is anyone else with a Mini noticing quite a bit of sluggishness in the app store and iTunes?

Since iOS 6 the app store and itunes store are always sluggish and often here they will fail to show anything other than updates.

This is on the mini, the ipad 3rd gen , the ipad 4th gen and iphone 4S and 5.

Given that it afflicts all our iOS devices one can only assume its since the crappy redesign of iTunes & App stores.

Oh,okay. Then it wasn't just my imagination. I thought that the iPad Mini speakers sounded louder than my iPad 2 also. I used external wireless speakers with my iPad 2. Haven't paired them, yet, with my iPad Mini.

I love mine! I have had all models of the iPad, except 4, and I love this one! My iPad 3 is going up for sale! For what I use my iPad for, its prefect. The weight is wonderful, the screen size took a minute to a adjust to but I have found I like it the best in landscape. I have wanted a mini since I order my iPad 1 on launch day! The portability is what I wanted, I hate having to carry a lot of different stuff, so purse size is what I really wanted and I have the iphone 5, love it, but its to small for me to comfortably read or surf for very long. Now if I used the iPad for any kind of paper typing, note taking or anything that required a lot of typing I think the full size iPad would be better. But again I have to say I LOVE THIS MINI!

I'm not sure whether to get a Ipad3 or mini?

I use Garagaband, Procreate, Nanostudio, Animoog and a huge ton of time in comiczeal and goodreader.

Now the limited memory has made me worried?, however, reading about it the ipad3 extra memory is to help push the Retina screen more than a performance boost?.

Is that true?.

made me buy it

Well I've had my mini for about 24 hours now and absolutely love it. I have no problems with the display at all. But then my previous iPad was an iPad 1. Yes I think a Retina display would be great, but I'm not willing to pay a bigger price to get it. I've given my old iPad 1 to my wife with no regrets. I just left my local Apple Store because I wanted to exchange covers (got light grey but decided I wanted dark grey) and the store was completely sold out of mini's, so Apple must be doing something right with this device.

Love the size. Hate the screen. Not sure if I will keep it. Probably wait for next generation. Can't believe the screen isnt retina at this price point. I feel like I have stepped back 3 years.

But I LOVE the size.

May keep it for portability... not sure yet.

Actually I think it's us with the better vision that don't have a problem. The way I hear some people talk, they can't even read text without the help of the extra clarity of the retina! while I have no problem at all.

I still have an iPad 2 and I have no problem with it. I can't see the Mini being any worse. I'm just waiting for subsequent refreshes before I jump in. I do want one.

I'm not sure what my best experience with the mini has been so far, but I do know that the worst experience has been in the last two hours in which I've read some of the dumbest posts I've ever seen.
