Has anyone spent time using GarageBand, iMovie, or any other memory-intense app on the mini? I'm curious if they run with any lag or crashing...

It works fine on my Mini. No lag. I used iMovie last night.

I'm not sure what my best experience with the mini has been so far, but I do know that the worst experience has been in the last two hours in which I've read some of the dumbest posts I've ever seen.

So true! I can't wait until a week or so, most of these "The iPad Mini doesn't have retina" topics typically go away.

Ill put my 2 cents out there FWIW.

Ive had mine (16g white) for less then 24 hours. Two hours after it was delivered I was over at the Apple Store side by siding it with the ipad 4. (more about that later)

Pros to Mini:
It feels amazing in your hand.
It so light. I dread going back to a full size.
Sound is way better then ipad 1.
The build quality reminds me of the IP5. It just feels like better construction.
Speed is acceptable, especially coming from 1st Gen.

The screen resolution is what it is, no need to beat that horse. I love the size, but I also hate the size. If I was using it a e-reader in bed it would be perfect, but I use my kindle for that.

My ipad use is honestly focused on a browser when I'm out and about or sitting on the sofa watching TV, and that is where the mini failed last night. I could not get it to a spot on my lap where I felt like it could sit there and I could surf. The lack of weight makes it easy to slide and move around.

The fact the screen is smaller makes watching a letterbox movie not much better then iphone 5 at full screen

I know Ill miss the portability of it when I travel but Ill cross that bridge when it comes.

I guess what bothers me most is I'm just not excited by it and I find myself trying to justify keeping it, which tells me its not the right product for me. So in all likelihood it will go back tomorrow for a 4 (unless I put it in the marketplace since a white 16 is so hard to find)

Yep. You'd think it is the end of the world as we know it because it doesn't have a Retina display.

Actually I think it's us with the better vision that don't have a problem. The way I hear some people talk, they can't even read text without the help of the extra clarity of the retina! while I have no problem at all.

Obviously it would be nicer for it to be retina, but it's not the Appleocolypse as some are making out.

I love my ipad mini. So beautiful and elegant. Good job apple ,please keep making awesome gadget with premium quality. Thank you apple!:apple:
