Steve jobs said that the iPad and it size was a perfect product and any smaller would be a waste of time he didn't want to make anything smaller then a iPad
i dont think they will go against his wishes about the iPad Saying that money talks apple are out to make money like any other business. At this moment in time I am 60% in favour that we wont see a iPad mini at the end of the day we can all put leaks out there.

!!!Rumours are Cheap on the internet!!!
!!!You can believe what you want to believe!!!

If yields are low it must mean retina. 1078 resolution screens would be easy to make.

Taking into consideration the already proven popularity of this size. Apple's very smart to _copy Samsung_ & make their own. Slap the fruity logo on it, and watch how quickly the Apple disciples forget about what "Steve said" as they whip out their wallets to buy one.

I've always maintained this to be a good move for Apple. Finally they've decided to catch up to the others. Being just in time for the holiday selling season it's going to be one of the best sellers yet. Therefore it's no wonder we've got a headline like this.

If the Mini gets released this month I can fully understand why, look what's being(going to be) released (lately), iPhone 5, new iPods, mini, all with new displays so I guess it's hard to keep up with demand/manufacturing

You contradict what is in your signature.

Your Sig:
iPhone 4S Wood Brown iPhone 4 Black new iPad Wifi+4G White MacBookPro AppleTV 3

So now you have:

iPhone 5
iPhone 4s
iPhone 4
iPad 3
MacbookPro
AppleTv

You are SOOO poor:rolleyes:

Agreed, is this an American thing lately?

i didnt buy the iPhone 5, i was just curious if they have any in stock ;)

I always felt that an iPad is a luxury for a laptop owner and haven't bought one. How many are going to own both sizes of iPad now?

This comment of Steve's really won't die for some reason. We can't ask Steve if he still believes that, so people believe it's still true today. I don't think we can assume that. That was a different time and tablet market was nascent. Screen resolutions weren't as capable as they are today, and we were all learning how tablets could enhance our lives, but that was then. Today is a different day, tablets and the tablet market are very different than they were when the iPad was being introduced.

No one wants their comments to live on in a different world in a different context forever, and given we can't even ask Steve today, I think it's really silly to shackle Apple to a comment he made several years ago, in a different world entirely, especially when the comment is simply not true today. People want a 7" tablet, they're building and buying them, so the statement is simply inaccurate, so we need to leave it in the era when it did hold true and stop throwing it around today.

Well, Steve was wrong, the current size isn't the sweet spot. Can you grip the whole iPad with one hand? I can... barely, because I have long fingers, but most people can't. They do some semi-awkward thing with both hands and type with their thumbs, or they put it on a table. Whereas a 7" tablet is something you can pull out of your cargo pants pocket, hold securely in one hand and operate with the other, then be on your way. That's a mobile, handheld device. The iPad isn't, it's more like the smallest thing ever to not be truly mobile. It's also got a heavy-ass battery in order to drive the gazillion pixels for 10 hrs, it charges so slowly that if you hook it up to a USB port on your computer while using the iPad as a gaming device, it will lose one or two % of the charge. If you want a decent recharge you have to plug in the 10W charger and leave the iPad alone.
I'd expect the 7" to have a considerably smaller and lighter battery, but with a smaller non-retina screen, much less juice is required so it evens out. I'd gladly buy one as my iPad-to-go and keep the other one as my home iPad.

I always felt that an iPad is a luxury for a laptop owner and haven't bought one.
Depends on your laptop, doesn't it? If you're on an MBA I can see how an iPad might seem superfluous. Personally I'm on an MBP 17" and I wouldn't have it any other way, but a "laptop", it isn't, more like a mobile workstation, not something you bring to a café and go "mind if I clear the entire table to make room for this tank I dragged all the way here?"

7" isnt the sweet spot for me -- i dont wear cargo pants, i dont want to grip it w/ one hand, and i like using it on a table. clearly for me its not a on-person mobile device but is instead a very small computer. thats my use case.

there is no magic sweet spot. thats why things come in different sizes.

Gotta agree 100%. I like the Kindle Fire HD for the size but it's ok when browsing the web. I think the current iPad still has the optimal size as a jack of all trades usage. Playing games, email, web browsing all fit very well within the size of the iPad.

While I'm a long time Apple fan, the missteps are cumulative and are starting to cause some of us to consider the unthinkable......the competition's offerings. Six months of iPhone 5 hype were successful and many of us couldn't wait to get one. But, yesterday my local store told me it could be 4 - 5 weeks before I could get black and white 16 gig models. Add to that scuffing (out of the box) issues, unavailable and obscenely over-priced adapters, and some possible software problems and it's getting hard to stay excited. Now it sounds like the mini may experience similar problems. Maybe these problems would still occur if Steve were still here, but I bet heads would roll.

So we now have rumours to try and explain or justify why other rumours have not come true? Fine by me I quite like reading rumours.

This rumour does sound legitimate though. We still don't know what component issues they are referring to exactly. As we have had very few "mini iPad" part leaks so far.

Why do people think this way?

I know people that got a "new" iPhone right before Apple released the next iPhone. They then were angry.

How DARE a company release a new product after their old one has been out several months!!!

The thing about Apple (and most consumer electronics companies) is that they say a product is 'new' right up until the point the next model comes out.

Where is my ipod touch?

Preordered. Different issue. These did not have the same release date as the phone. (or any, really) That may bother you, but it does not mean there is a one to one correlation with people complaining about phone supply right now.

Wouldn't the overwhelming reporting on the iPad Mini by DigiTimes kinda mark this thing as vaporware?

Only if DigiTimes were the mfgr.

Give up on this. Apple's had their Holliday Quarter launch. They did iPhone & iPod, it's done. Every year there's been iPad mini rumours, and nothing. Take no notice of Schiller's rent boys Fireballs & Beard, they'll tell you just enough to keep you on the hook.

You probably believe iPhone 5 supplies are constrained, too. Apple's making as many as they can, given the unbelievable quality standards (see other stories). And there's no shortage of supply at Apple Stores. People are still lining up and they've still got stock. They could sell them at other stores, but why bother at this stage - better PR seeing the queues at Apple.

Previous years, you ordered a phone at a Store and came back weeks later to pick it up. This year, there's plenty for all. Live it up, and get a new iPad, next year.

Apple comes out with a black back for the iphone and now every mock up has a back shell. what's next, a pink ipad?

Dear Mr. Cook,

Could you please leak a few details about the Mac Pro and iMac to assure us that WE computer users know that you haven't forgotten us?

And, does Apple even have a department related to these computers or has everyone at Apple been moved over to the iPad and iPhone departments?

He's already said they haven't forgotten the Pro customers. There's new iMacs and Mac Pros coming next year. Also, the rMBP is a Pro computer...

Still seems odd that Apple are going to introduce a new iPad form factor even though we're completely in the middle of it's release cycle.

Especially as, unlike a new Mac screen sizes, no iPad apps will work.

Not saying this isn't going to happen, just want to see the keynote and see how they deal with those issues.

I'm not a fan of an iPad due to the size and premium price when my iPhone can do everything already, but the iPad mini would make me think twice. Small enough to fit in bag to view PDFs or browse the internet with out adding weight.

I hope they don't release a new new ipad. I just but a new ipad. I will shoot my self if they do.

The iPad mini will not be a replacement for the current, full sized iPad - Its a completely different product. It's like saying that you'll shoot yourself if they bring out a new MacBook air soon because you've just purchased a MacBook pro...
