It's a bit of a bummer isn't it? I miss the total surprises as well.

If you go back far enough and Apple was small enough (or even making its own stuff....hard to remember that) they could keep stuff quiet to launch...now their giant subcontracted build chain lets everything out like water through a sieve.

Such is life...

...but -- you do realize the reason for the leaks is YOU, right? us. being here. selling ad impressions to arn and the other site operators... if there were no hits clamoring every day for more leaks, there wouldnt be valuable leaks sold by the supply chain.

if you want to stop leaks, devalue them -- stop coming to this site.

I wonder how many Apple fanatics today will praise how "revolutionary" and awesome the iPad mini is...and how many of those fanatics were the same ones that blasted Google and Amazon for their smaller-sized tablets.

In case the fanboys forget... I'd like to remind them that they should head over to their local department store and buy some sandpaper :)

Steve Jobs: "This size (7-inches for a tablet) isn’t sufficient to create great tablet apps in our opinion. While one could increase the resolution of the display to make up for some of the difference, it is meaningless unless your tablet also includes sandpaper, so that the user can sand down their fingers to around one quarter of their present size.

Apple has done extensive user testing on touch interfaces over many years and we really understand this stuff...These are among the reasons we think the current crop of 7-inch tablets are going to be DOA. Dead On Arrival."
apple's smaller tablet is almost 8 inches, not 7
sand paper isn't needed to use an iphone 5
steve is dead, but when he was alive he used to lie to throw off competitors

Only thing I do not like about these posts (even though it is true) is that people act like it is only Apple that changes their stance on something. Every company does and it wouldn't be the first or last time a company, including Apple went against what they said earlier.

The Market moves, it's your job as a successful company to move with it. If you don't then you won't be around for a very long time. Apple has already proven that their is a market for the larger tablets. I just don't like it when people say Apple is going back on what they told us earlier. Mostly just because every single company in existence will if they want to be successful. Samsung, Microsoft, and Google all have.

I'm done lugging around a Macbook Pro that can't compete with my Mac Pro for the heavy lifting. My little iPhone has been like training wheels; ready to step up to a big ol...small ol'...perfect size-o whatever they're calling this thing in an hour! Eventually office will come to ios, and then...that's it, for the grownups: laptops be done. And then the macrumors fanboys will eat the cakes, because we'll be back on pushing desktops. :)

It's neither. Apple will at any point in time decide what is the best thing to do _at that point in time_, and then will make very strong statements that doing anything else would be absolutely wrong. As time changes, the "best thing to do" will change, so Apple will adapt and at the same time make very strong statements that doing anything else would be absolutely wrong.

I'm sure he knew it was a good idea and many people would want this. But what was more important at the time was to sell _one_ device only to make sure it was the market leader.

bingo. its crazy the way the trolls dont get this -- the notion that every decision must be frozen at the exact same point in time for all history is absurd. clearly the trolls have never had to run a company or manage a product or do anything, really.

These events are no fun! Everything leaks and we know all the details weeks in advance now. Only solution is to not log onto the Internet.

can you tell me for certain the processor, ram, cameras, screen resolution, battery size? the ipad mini hasnt had too many leaks to be fair.

So the folks saying it wouldn't happen have now switched to it won't sell.

Honestly , do some people just bury their head in the sand and refuse to learn ?

The iPad mini can't be the same ratio, as the full size one.

If the iPad mini has the same aspect ratio then it will really really bad for watching films.

My Nexus 7 already gives me just about the same movie watching screen size as the full size iPad.

New iPhone 5 might have more viewable area then the iPad mini!

So something will have to be different.

Mini as the official name by the smart cover?

No way... I would have never guessed that

Its a dead give a way... Maybe if they didn't show that pic, i would have actually thought about it.

You know, that cover looks the similar to the iPad 3, only smaller.

Now all we need is a smart case for the Mini.... Which obviously will follow.

Good video btw, but he sad 8-inches.... Seems he got it wrong, or i did.

Nope, it will FLOP.

Just adding to the Quote-Chowder for a few months from now :)

I guess if you're talking sales, I'd like to know what's a flop? <1M? <5M??

Can we quote you on this months from now when its under millions of Xmas trees ?

Already have several at my office saying they will be getting 2-3 of them for their kids and themselves if they are under 300.

As I posted before I've got ILs and other friends/relatives on deck to buy (first time tablet buyers too). Within my small circle of people, it's already a success :D

I hope I'll remember to quote you when Apple releases quarterly results in January.

Price will definitely factor in, but if the leaked numbers are accurate, I think Apple will have a huge hit on their hands.

People just keep bringing up the Steve Jobs quote about needing to sandpaper your fingers to use a smaller tablet, etc. It's ridiculous. Sure, he said it, and looking back on it, it's kinda funny. But good businesses readjust their strategies according to the market. That's how you stay in business. Back then, they felt a 7" tablet wouldn't be a good thing for whatever reasons. Now they see different, so it's necessary to make an adjustment. You can criticize Apple for changing its mind, but any good company watches the market and decides when it's the right time to make a move. Apple feels that time is now, and judging from the huge amount of posts from people saying they're excited about it, I'd say Apple is right. Sure, they're behind the curve on this one, but if they do it well, it won't be long before that late start won't matter. Good businesses have to have flexibility to change when people's preferences change.

Wow great !!!

Apple invented a nice device they invented almost 3 years ago, the iPad !

What a bunch of new revolutionary products we are seeing !

So I don't need to file my fingers down to stylus-sided nubs...they only need to be filed down to #2-pencil-eraser-sized nubs?

On-screen controls will be exactly the same size as they are on the iPhone.

Buttons and icons are enlarged on the regular iPad compared to the phone, the iPad Mini icons will be shrunk back to plain old iPhone size.

So you only have to file your fingers if you currently find the iPhone unusable.
