The eqivalent? What exactly do you mean? Because it got also 16 Gb? Thats it? A tablet consists of Memory?
You can not really compare the Nexus to the mini? Really, if you do, you will find, that the Nexus is too expensive. I know, I got one of these plastic boxes here, out of battery, as usual after 15:00h.

Take of the apple colored glasses, my friend. When you do, you will realize the 7 is a much better value. OS and all.

Take your Android colored glasses and you'll see the Playbook was much better value when it was being sold for $119 for 32G... but not really. For those who prefer the build quality and the iOS ecosystem, there's still nothing competing against the Mini.

But built quality and the iOS ecosystem aren't always the deciding factors - are they? But clearly - if someone does prefer the iOS ecosystem - they can ONLY get an Apple device. So of course, there's nothing competing against the Mini. Except the iPad, of course.

Apple has such great build quality that they will have the iPad Mini pre-scratched and pre-dented for you!!!

Please, please show me where you are seeing 3rd gen iPads going for $329 on craigslist.

Where did you see me say $329 for a 3rd gen iPad?????? Anyway, with todays announcement of the 4th gen iPad, I'm sure you won't have trouble finding some;) Even Apple is selling refurbs for $379 on their site.

Sure and there in lies the problem for the tablet buyers right now. I have the Playbook and I couldn't really recommend it even at that bargain price

If you disagree with my wording, you change the "build quality" to "sleeker design". :D

Our school won't be giving those to every student at that price.
You lose apple!
What schools ever will?
Schools across the world are always behind the time in terms of technology, unless it's a private school or University.

Schools get little funding per student, if you took away even $100 away to give everyone the latest tablet then it would be a major percentage of their funding. As a result very few schools even have a computer for every student, unless it's an IT class room. The ones who do probably get funding from other means, like donation etc.

I'm sorry but as a person who is relatively new to the Apple world coming from Android.....THIS IS STUPID.I see why Mr. Jobs was against it.

For just $70 more....I can get a 2 (they're virtually the same). A 7inch iPad has no place in the market, especially with a non-Retina display.

Know why 7inch Android tablets are popular? One word: price. This is the only way they could have competed with the iPad. A 10'' Android raises the price above the $250 range. They used that money saved with shaving 3'' to making better internals like the processor and gpu. Makes no sense for Apple to do the same. Sure it'll sell, but I still think it just takes up space.

At first I thought Mr. Jobs was wrong about the 7'' tablets....but now I think he's right.

I am excited about the Mac Mini Though.

With the starting price Apples charging & the vast quantities they're certain to sell Apples got one more cash cow in hand. They've proven once again, that they think very highly of themselves. :)

Hm. Popular? Where are 7" Android tablets popular? I mean outside all those forum people that know everything.

Besides, the mini is 8" and got another aspect ratio, very nicely demonstrated in tonights broadcast.

I have a iPad2 and a Nexus7 8GB (a gift from my wholesaler as a premium for buying other stuff, they also give them away with some home entertainment systems) and there is no comparison. None.

Pretty sure the Nexus 7 was sold out every where when it came.

But I can see you are a biased fanboy. So there's no point of discussion.

I believe if they truly felt the need to compete with Google this year it would have been an 8GB for $249. Selling out is a marketing thing for many companies, I'm sure we will see a sell out of the Microsoft Surface as well. Companies know that selling out is important for buzz so i would not be surprised if it was engineered.

"More capable" based on what evidence? Having more storage and having more capability are two entirely different creatures. You could just as easily argue that having a 40% smaller screen alone would make the Nexus Android "crap" less capable, or that the lack of tablet-specific apps (don't worry, I know that Android apps are generally not classified as tablet-specific because for the most part they scale well to a 7" screen, but since you are declaring a victory based on one spec alone, turnabout is fair play).

FWIW, I do think the Nexus 7 is a good device for the money, and its price and apparent storage bump will make it even more attractive (I suspect this is an attempt to pre-empt whatever Apple may announce). But your above statement is the same sort of fanboyism that Apple fans on this forum are often accused of, considering that the specs of the iPad Mini are not even known yet, nor is the price.

I think Apple may actually be more aggressive with the price of the iPad Mini than it typically is, because it is entering this particular segment of the market later than some competitors, and it is not introducing any revolutionary new concept or form factor. Apple's guidance for this quarter was for a lower than usual gross margin, which could well be because of the iPad Mini. Some had suggested that the main reason for the reduced margin was the iPhone 5, but from what I have read, Apple still has an incredibly high margin on that phone.

I'm hoping that Apple will introduce the iPad Mini for $249 with 8 GB of storage, which with its larger screen and typical Apple fit and finish will not look too bad overall compared to the Nexus (although you can be sure that Google will tout its higher storage capacity and lower price). Of course, iPad buyers wanting to get the most out of their devices would probably be well advised to buy a model with more storage, and the up-sell could help boost Apple's margins closer to their usual level, with prices around $349 for 16 GB and $449 for 32 GB.

Google has completely mismanaged Android. It's a mess. Anyone that has used Android and iOS for more than 5 mins each would never think Android is more capable than iOS or an equal or better user experience. It could have been, but it's not.

Damn these two have to be some of the dumbest people on macrumors.

For all the current iPad lineup, take the US$ number and multiply by about 0.8 to get the UK price, which is why I'm going for £279 if this pricing rumour is correct. When you factor in exchange rate plus 20% UK tax, we'll be getting fleeced by about £30 on that price compared to the Americans.

Turned out to be £269. :)

I see. I am a fanboy so any facts MUST be in favor of Android because they have to?

I can tell you, and you can simply check that anywhere, that the Nexus is far from being "sold out", you can very easy buy it anywhere. Besides, what does sold out mean? How many units did they bring to the market? Why is Google not publishing the numbers? Why is nobody publishing numbers, but Apple?

All you hear are guesses from "experts" third party rumors how very successfull a tablet was. No proof. No hard numbers. You hear Amazon bragging that they had 27% Marketshare at one partikular time or day with there original kindle fire in the US, that would have translated into more kindle fires sold then the manufacturer ever could have produced. I see iPads everywhere, every day, I never seen a kindle fire in the wild.

I did see a nexus7, because I have one and it is working very well for what it is and what you can do with it. But it is in no way a competition to the iPad. None at all. And the kindle need good will and a lot of fantasy to even be rated in the same category as a tablet, because it is a complete different category as a dedicated Amazon content device.

I can see the nexus being bought for special use, lets say a dedicated sat nav that allowes a quick web search in the car or entertains the kids for an hour. If there is a $99 Model coming, it will be a impuls buy at the check out and one could get it as a universal remote or little game boy.

Still no competition for the iPad.

At the end of the day, the popularity of any specific device has to translate into earnings or winnings for the company. That is until now not happening with the kindle or the nexus. There is only one company that makes money with tablets, Apple. There are two companies that make money with phones, Apple and Samsung. Samsung thru mass, they just put so many phones out and hope, that combined they make some profit and it works, they are earning money, Apple with the most sold phone ever of any manufacturer with massive margins.

All others do earn nothing or pay to sell there handsets. In the tablet market only Apple makes money, even Samsung with there expensive offerings is not making any, because they sell so little.

As a share holder I am interested in earnings and if I have 80% of the winnings of ALL sold tablets with only 20% market share, I am happy. Every tablet of the competition sold at a loss or without profit brings my earnings up.

Apple sells every quarter more units and everyone knows, they making money with every sold device. At the moment there is nobody that can compete, no matter how many devices they flood the market with.
