Just canceled my online 32gb cellular order and did pick up in-store for the 64gb.. Figured I'd rather have more storage and get it tonight instead of waiting 2 weeks.

As far as the smart cover thing.. Not saying this works but I was planning on calling and saying something along the lines of, Oh I expected the ipad to come sooner like before Thanksgiving, can you give me expedited shipping?, and seeing if they'd throw in the smart cover for the "inconvenience"

I called after I placed my order to see if I could pay for overnight shipping since standard and 2-3 day were the only options. Guy immediately changed it to 2-3 day shipping from standard for free and comped the smart case I also had on the order. Didn't ask or complain, was just wanting to pay for overnight shipping.

That's what I was going for, explained expedited wasn't an option when I ordered, but I'd like it. Thought maybe he'd throw in the case thing.

Then he mentioned Applecare, and as the poster above mentioned, that triggers a whole new process of canceling the order, redoing it, etc. and that led to the free case. I hadn't read the post yet, so didn't know there was a decent chance the hassle would end in $99 for Applecare and a case, but at that point on reflection, it's 99 I'd rather just spend on the case I actually want.

My gut agrees that they were given the green light, maybe a soft quota of what they could give away, and it's just about hitting the right CSR at the right time.

Not sure if this has been asked and answered, but is there a difference between each model....like the AT&T vs the T-Mobile vs Verizon, etc model or is it like the iPad Air and one model to rule them all and they all come unlocked?

Yup. One model. 4 different SIMs from which to choose or lose and put one of the other's inside.

Said screw it and decided after how many laptops, iPads and iPhones, no sense not asking for the first apple freebie I've seen in forever.

Spoke to the guy and asked if it was true that a case was supposed to be included as part of the product rollout. He clearly knew what I was up to and politely told me I had been misinformed, but since there seemed to be some confusion regarding what I'd heard he'd be happy to comp it.

If you ordered at 3 am, day of release, and clearly heard it through apple's quasi-viral release (more I think about it, more it seems like a calculated viral release since no matter what happened, it's a sellout by Xmas so may as we'll try something different), then you're one of us dorks. When john q. Mom calls in a week about Johnny's new iPad they will disavow all knowledge of what they did for the folks who ordered in the first day or so when the only people who knew about the release were blog-reading fanboys, myself included.

Big ups Apple, you done right by this long standing customer!

So you are thinking they've decided to reward those tech savy people who ordered the first day? I'm now thinking, seeing they offered me 100$ worth of freebies, they could as well hook me up with apple keyboard :D

All I'm staying is its a small price to pay(literally, those cases must be a 1,000% markup vs. huge goodwill gains) for a major company to test the reach of its viral marketing ability. Why pay millions in marketing when you can basically find out if you can do a solid chunk of it for free for pennies on the dollar at no risk? Apple is selling out their supply of retinas by Xmas whether they say nothing and go live at 3am or take a billboard in Times Square during launch day rush hour, may as well take a unique opportunity at free market research.

That may sound a bit too conspiratorial, but I think it makes perfect sense. The keyboard, however, joke that it was. If you're testing the reach of blogs, message boards etc for dissemination of marketing, all they need to do is compare orders to phone calls and requests for expedited shipping and free cases. Genius.

I don't think it's ethical to lie just to get something free. I mean you can do the same with pretty much everything you buy. If they somehow cancelled your order or if they said something they weren't supposed to say, you can complain about it but not sure it's a guaranteed path.

just got off the phone with a sale rep, got a mini R case and expedited shipping for free.

I chatted with the rap for long time. chatted about life and stuff, didnt mention the case, but did mention i would like to pay for an over night shipment.

he was in a good and generous mood i think..

The weirdest thing happened to my order! I'm in Australia and I ordered on the 12th around 7 pm, I didn't notice the order status but as of morning today (14th) order status read (Preparing for shipment), and says 5-10 business days. Now its 5:30 pm and order status went BACK to (Processing item). What's all that about?

Mine is sitting there as we'll, but my delivery date says 11/19 for some reason. I ordered early but didn't get expedited shipping.

I was going to place an order for one of the cellular versions a few hours after launch. But after getting an estimated shipping between the 25th and December 1st, a period when I will be away for the holidays, I was disappointed that I couldn't go through with my order.

Do you guys think that any of the cellular models will be available at the store this weekend here in the US, or are they all being shipped from Hong Kong and other Asian countries, which will take another few weeks to reach us?

My iPad mini 32GB LTE Space Grey have just shipped! Estimated delivery is now 21th November! :D Just got mail with trackingnumber from Apple! :D

This should be a good sign for everyone that ordered when it got released for ordering.
