The crew that loaded the trucks may well have worked through the night. It does not mean that a driver left with the truck at that moment.

But I do know that waiting sucks.

Cancelled my white iPad Mini 16gb order in Montreal and walked out of a store with a black 32. It was all I could find in my area so I settled.
 
Here in Southern California (inland Empire) and still no UPS delivery. It sucks because my Smart Cover came at exactly 10AM two days ago. I'm giving them the benefit of there's a lot of shipments being delivered today, but come on now!
 
Same thing happened to me in bmore area, rescheduled for sat delivery but my ups info never updated, apple issued me a credit for my Smart Cover for the inconvenience.

They didn't have to but they said they had done that for others and were very apologetic.

Not Apple but UPS yes!

They had a breakdown at midnight last night (11/1) in Baltimore which is no more than 30-45mins away from the Laurel terminal. A road repair should take 2 hours or less. A more serious dead tractor should be replaced within a a few hours. As it was they got the freight inbound scanned to Baltimore at 4:40am. Why couldn't they get that freight 30 mins down 95 to Laurel so it could go out today? Why divert to Baltimore?

I run a delivery business 5 miles from the Laurel UPS terminal. There is NO way my customers would let me miss a delivery day for a broken unit 30 mins away. They'd expect me to have replaced that tractor and gotten the freight there. And I would have. UPS just didn't care enough.

I got my free smart case from Apple because of this. Yet I'm still pissed. If it comes tomorrow, OK. But I'm not leaving it on the porch all day Monday and I'm not working from home Monday or Tuesday. Let them take it back. I'll just go to the store Saturday afternoon. For Apple, they can make UPS eat the shipping cost plus the $40 smart case cost.

It's not like it got stuck in the hurricane. They showed tracking from Alaska to Kentucky in 10 hours. Yet they could not get it the last 30 miles in half that time.

Notably poor service.

PS. It has a departure scan from Baltimore at 9am this morning. It's 12 hours later and no arrival scan at any terminal. Where the heck has it gone?

Maybe they flew it back to Alaska to try again! They've had enough time to have done that.

Plus no estimated delivery date. Saturday? Monday? Wait? Store? If I go to a store, how long before I get credit for the refused delivery? How am I sure that I really will get a credit? Trust UPS to actually return it to Apple? How may returns do their people just steal (Oh, yes, I've seen drivers / sorters try all kind of stuff). Just a hassle I don't need.

PPS My first Apple rep was not apologetic at all. Did not want to offer anything, Had to hang up and call back for another rep to get the smart cover. And he was not all that apologetic either.
 
UPS forgot to put package in truck

holy s@!#, you guys think you have it bad.

I stayed up and did the preorder last Friday morning and expected to get it today (November 2nd). Based on the Apple area maps I was in an major area where I would get it on November 2nd, that was great. I got all the Apple and UPS notifications. On Friday November 2nd I received the notification that it was on a truck out for delivery today.

By 6pm it hadn't showed up and the status hadn't changed. I decided to give UPS a call and while I was on the phone with them the status changed to EXCEPTION:

Yeah, I'm pretty pissed, not because I didn't get mine today but because I sat around the whole day waiting for the iPad that was listed to be delivered today and now according to UPS is 'still out for delivery' but updated to monday now.

It's 4:48PM where I am and same here still no sign of my UPS driver as well. All I know is I will get it today.

Edit: wow just as I write this UPS just pulls up. Very stoked.

Lucky, about an hour after my post (~6:30) my iPad mini finally got here. Looks perfect, only one dead/stuck pixel, but its hardly noticeable. Totally in love with it. I don't get what people's complaints about the screen are all about, i have a 15" rMBP, iPhone 5 and had the 3rd gen iPad, and I don't see it being all that bad. Maybe thats just me, but it's not a deal killer for me. The form factor and weight are perfect for what I need it for.

Oh uh, I got the same tracking update too, that is for the Monday delivery even after I received this email letter from Apple.

"We recently learned that your iPad mini shipment is delayed with UPS, and will not be delivered today. We know you're excited to receive your new iPad mini, and we apologize for this unexpected delay.
We've been in touch with UPS and they committed to delivering your package on Saturday, November 3. If you'd like to view shipping updates or pre-sign for your delivery, please visit apple.com/orderstatus.

I was going to tell you all to call Apple quickly and have them change the delivery to saturday. They do that easily, and you may very well get a small gift too :p

OR call UPS and see if they can hold your package at the facility for a "will call" so you can go get it tomorrow, if said facility is not too far from your home.
 
Apple totally screwed the pooch by using UPS for shipping. I got the Saturday garauntee delivery email too but doubt thats going to happen.
 
Boo, missed the delivery. I dunno what happened but my brother tried fixing it but he messed it up so now it says that as requested by customer, it will be picked up at a UPS facility. Meh, I'll call and see where it's at in the morning. I've had a long day. I can wait for mine.
 
Well I called Apple and they were actually happy I called because they were concerned that package is still 'out for delivery' and never rescanned into the warehouse if it wasn't delivered. Also they gave me a free smart case in the color of my choice, red.
 
Apples is aware of the situation and send out an official apology letter to whom in the area that got affected. That's what called good customer service! What's wrong with it???

There's nothing wrong with an apology. I never said there was. But that's not what you thought you deserved. You didn't just want an apology, you wanted Apple to upgrade you to a Saturday delivery for a UPS problem. Re-read your own post.

I got the same Saturday guarantee from Apple too. I didn't even know that UPS delivers on the weekend. If in fact they do, I expect them to deliver it in the early afternoon...I just can't see a UPS delivery happening on a Saturday in the late afternoon/early evening.

Unbelievable! I cant believe the delay had nothing to do with the tragic hurricane but a simple truck malfunction.

Good news, just got off the phone with UPS. We WILL get ours today. Even though the website says Monday, the rep says that whenever its not delivered on a Friday it will automatically say the next business day (Monday) but to ignore that because they have a very specific contract with Apple and it WILL be delivered TODAY.
 
That's great. Though from now on i'll never order from Apple if UPS is their shipping carrier.

I do in fact run 60 routes per day of next day deliveries with 24x6 warehousing as well as owning 3 truck repair facilities. Have done so for the last 10 years. Includes Baltimore/DC area.

So in this particular case I'm as close to a domain expert as you're going to get on this site.

I didn't say I asked for Sat. delivery (just it is the end result that mini is on the UPS truck today). I simplely stated the situation when calling Apple and the agent worked on calling UPS all by himself. He then asked what else he could do for me.
 
Sorry to all who expected but did not receive their minis yesterday. I feel your frustration.

Just wanted to say though that UPS or any other carrier could have unforeseen delays. This is the 2nd Time I have preordered and UPS came through as promised on both. A FedEx truck could have just as easily broken Dow.
