Base line architecture is more important so an A17 Pro (3nm base for M3) is a more advanced processor than the M2 (A15 based 5nm) for instance.

As most others have stated the new mini will most likely have the A18 (due to manufacturing processes) which is essentially a downscaled M4 chip. The only factor im not sure about is whether the A18 on the mini 7 will provide full stage manager functionality on external monitor.
I really hope it provides stage manager support. Would be great to have a small tablet and a large "desktop" for this device.

Apple: Here is TouchID at the corner on a slim button.
This...when you can wake and attempt to unlock the ipad with simply a touch and swipe, it's a pain to have to touch the button. I end up just inputting the code instead, it's just as quick as resting a finger on the button, especially in landscape mode where the button is on the left side when standing on the folded case and I'm right-handed (as are a majority).

Point is: Why does Apple require you to buy 1TB at insanely inflated prices to have nano? If they were to offer nano as simply a $100 option, then it would be more likely that the Mini could see this. btw, I have nano.
How do you like the screen? Is it more blurry for watching movies and such?

Imagine an iPad mini Air with tiny bezels, 8.9", OLED, M2 chip.

I would pay a premium for that, maybe $699.

No. It's not grain like matte protectors. It's way better than that. It's very good.

Potential issues:

1) Cost, do to niche.
2) The base non-nano, is not very reflective. It already has good anti-glare, so there's that.

The main thing is the pathetic 1tb (at insane cost) being forced on you. Why?

Apple isn’t going to build it, and if they did, it would be at least $899, which is not a practical price for a mini given the actual market forces at work.
Indeed, but maybe something in the middle. OLED is nice but totally not necessary, so scratch that. 7.9" is quite enough for a mini. Maybe just shrink the bezels so the screen size is the same but the total footprint is smaller? And m2 is surely doable, especially if they're not updating the thing for 3 years again after this. Up the base storage to 128gb, throw in pencil pro support and that seems fair enough for a $499 starting point.

If they dont put a decent processor in it then it wont be a good multitasking experience.
Having said that, regular iPads arent used that often to multitask screens - always feels a bit "aaarrrggghhh".
If they can put an M1 in a 11" iPad surely this is doable with better thermo management they now use?

And given the mini commands a higher price, it should get better hardware too.

I'd love a Magic Keyboard... the ultimate Road Warrior tool. :)
A magic KB would be super cramped on an 8”. It’s already cramped on the 11”. I want a keyboard too but I think it’s better to get one of those keyboards from Logi (or someone else) with a device stand built into the keyboard.

I suspect the prominence of large smart phones (a.k.a.: 'phablets') took some of the Mini's thunder, but it remains a fine product, nicely portable and comfortable to use. It's especially nice for kids, who are not only smaller but tend to move around more. A full-size iPad in an elementary kids hands is pretty big and heavy. A cellular 5th gen. iPad mini in protective case keeps our kid entertained, in contact with friends, etc...

I want facial recognization. One of the reasons I bought a 2022 11" iPad Pro over an iPad Air was for facial recognization. When I'm doing things and get distracted, it often goes to sleep. Touching screen and having it almost instantly recognize me and ready for active use is a game changer.

I would think most people using an iPad Mini, with the smaller size, would have it in their hands close enough to their face for facial recognition. We've had this feature in phones for years.

Own cellular Mini 6 since launch and use it as both iPad and "phone" (with VOIP app and buds) every single day. Bezel is just thick enough to make it notch & island-FREE with the right amount of space on the sides to hold it well. I have no gripes at all about the bezel size... especially if thinning it would then force in a notch or island.

If only approx. 8-10mm is "comically large," I guess I don't get the joke. I presume you want iPhone bezels which work for iPhone because average and even smaller hands can cradle the device (fingers long enough to wrap up on the other side, so one doesn't easily drop it. With Mini, it's usually finger tips on back and a thumb on front because most don't have hands big enough to cradle one. Thus, the need to gently "pinch" the device between fingers on back and thumb on front and not have thumb on front making touchscreen events occur.

But to each his own. Maybe they will build the iPad you want.
