USB for iPod?

I looked everywhere for technicalities for the iPad but I don't see anything about the iPad having USB ports or any ports for that matter.
Am I correct? How do I get my songs from the iPad to the iPod?

As upset as I am about this thing, I kind of want it... i already have the Macbook Pro and an iMac, but I kind of want this thing even though after 2 weeks i wont use it.... lack of flash is a killer... I love Hulu too much... im gonna wait till august and see what has come out for it... games/magazines/other apps specifically designed for the iPad... then maybe...

Go Macbook

it has a similar usb to dock connector ipods use and an SD Card slot.

If the ipad is on your radar, why not a netbook? $200 cheaper than the pad and more functionality (not much bigger either).

I think you may be confused you don't sync music from it to your iPods you sync music from your computer to your iPad just like you do with your iPod. And there is no SD card slot on it, it is a seperate accessory that you plug into the dock connector.

exactly.....it's aimed at a different market and a different than a laptop. To think it's supposed to meet the same needs as a laptop does is to miss the point

it's definitely more of an improved Touch than a laptop replacement

Exactly.

My laptop is my ONLY computer. I hook it up to an external monitor and use a bluetooth keyboard/mouse with it when I'm at home.

The iPad is ideal to me because it provides all that I need when I want to be portable with a laptop and syncs with my computer. I do half (or more) of my computing from my bed, and usually with my iPhone - because the web browsing experience is simply better with multitouch.

A laptop is, as someone else in this thread described it, an ENTIRE OFFICE. It has every single feature you need. A lot of people don't need both a desktop computer AND a laptop computer, but they have both - and relegate the laptop to basic and casual uses like web surfing and not too much else.

The iPad is the casual, cheaper replacement for those people. I am in that group and I will be getting one eventually because it is more functional for what I want to do away from my desk - not to mention more enjoyable to use.

Grin. Yeah, that appletv sure seemed like a good idea. Good thing Loving Spouse has forgotten its even there.... :p

Yeah, ATV is a stern reminder that Steve can make anything sound neat. I was so excited to get that and it just sits collecting dust. It's the poster child for why my Loving Spouse and I have separate bank accounts.

I'm cautious on the pad but always weak when it comes to resisting new toys. This pad will either be great or a dud, and I don't think you'll know until you've tried it for a while. ATV is not far from being great. The real issue is that all the content you can really get for it (not counting music) you have to pay Apple for. It's kind of a vending machine directly to Apple. Sure you can break it open with outside software but that's a pain (I've tried it). The pad has the same smell to it. Sure you can read books, mags, watch tv, etc but every time you do you have to send $2 to $15 to Apple. Let's rename it iVend.

The iPad isn't a laptop replacement. Nor is it a desktop replacement. It's in addition too. I see this as a great enhancement piece of hardware. Traveling, hanging out, etc. If you travel often, I'd definitely consider the 3G version. But the other one is fine for general use. I can see myself using it for books, watching a Movie, Podcasts, etc. I do that now on my iPhone, but with the small screen it's tough sometimes.

I look at the cost; the low end model is the same price as a Kindle AND it does other things, vs. just a book reader. Don't look at it as a Tablet version of a Macbook, or anything else like that; it's not the target of the product.

to the OP....please post what you want your computing/electronic device to do. What programs will you need to use, how often, where, etc. Be specific- then you can get an honest realiable answer. For many who just have a desktop computer for things- they might very well do awesome with an iPad! It is really an awesome device for those who don't have an iPhone (or can't get one to work in their area like me) and don't have a touch either....it is an expensive touch that gives someone a chance to read eBooks, check email or web in front of the TV very comfortably or take something on the go but need more than a Touch or PHone. I love the device and think it will be very successful.

If I hand't just bought my MBP I would have considered a bigger screen iMac and an iPad to go with.

Does anyone think they will have a deal on the iPads during Back To School? Remember when they did for the Ipod Touch the first time- that really kicked up that Touch user base a bunch that fall!!!

To the OP, I guess it depends on your needs.

The iPad seems perfect for my needs: a lot of reading (books), Web browsing, e-mail, sharing photos, light gaming, etc. Plus, while lounging on the sofa or in bed, it will definitely be more comfortable to use than the awkward clam shell design of a netbook or laptop. I'm definitely getting an iPad -- I'm just not sure which version.

iPad = weak. To have any real functionality for productivity software (iWork) you need a keyboard. To have a usable (real) keyboard for the ipad, you're tied to a desk. Get a macbook.

You can use a "real" keyboard with the iPad. It supports the Apple Wireless Keyboards as well as the keyboard dock

If you don't have a laptop, I'd get a Macbook before you consider the pad.

I'll eventually be getting one for the bookstore. I think being able to browse for a book and grab whatever without having to find a brick and mortar bookstore is a great idea. And if I reach the end of a chapter and want to take a break the internet is right there along with my music, photos, Beejive or whatever other app I might feel like using to occupy my time.

I'd buy the iPad..

its better than kindle...if you can get all that for just $500 then its a good deal...

its targeted for people who travel a lot and don't want to carry a laptop or a netbook...
but $130 more for 3G is sad:(

I think they are going to his all kinds of market groups with this- but some of the main customer markets are:

1. people who don't usually sit in front of the TV and surf
2. people who want(or need) to travel with an electronic device but don't want a bigger laptop and don't own or want an iPhone (due to cost or bad coverage)
3. people who want an easier to use device instead of hauling out the MacBook Pro to just check email or web surf while watching tv or lounging.
4. people who are in school and want to easily read text books or take some basic notes.
5. Education Market!!!(see below comments)

There are several other groups I imagine who will end up buying one.

I am an elementary teacher and I would love to have a class set and thing that app. makers could really target education for these things and I could see using them for math, Language Arts, Science journals or recording devices, etc. (The bonus is they cost less than the crappy PC stuff we currently buy and don't (or can't) use.

do you have a picture of your set-up?

Don't worry, You can go for it, Its just because, The new MacBook Pro is as advanced on the inside as it is stunning on the outside. With faster processors, amazing graphics and up to three more hours of battery life, It also delivers both performance and efficiency.
