the thing i dislike the most about it is the quality of the cameras
then it would be the lack of a really good native file system
other than that i'm pretty adaptable and it fits my uses fairly well

The thing I hate the most, is that I have to pay apple $99 a year so that I can run my own programs on it, without jailbreaking it.

Besides the cameras which are only good for video chat (I was pretty shocked at how bad taking stills or video were, even with the absolute lowest expectations), I have to say I'm pretty disappointed about the iPod app for music playback.

It's a lot of taps to get between the various windows, and things that should be simple like giving star ratings or adding a song to a playlist are really really cumbersome. As well as some things that are just plain buggy, like scrolling to the bottom of lyrics doesn't stay there, after a couple seconds it pops back to the top. I really hope that app is way better in iOS 5.

Video playback app is pretty clunky as well, no video playlists, hard to find music videos, TV shows sorted oddly.

I dont know that I have complaints or dislikes, but I do have features that I would like to see:

--Flash implementation. Yeah, it sucks, but with so much content out there in Flash, I would like to have the option of viewing this content. Video primarily.
--Retina would be nice, but no complaints.
--Wireless sync is coming...
--Wireless mirroring is coming...
--Cameras could be better
--Assignable gestures. So, if I draw a circle, it will launch a program.
--Software reboot/shut down. Really hate using that button.
--Vibrator Motor. Would be fun to have that for some of the games I think.

-cameras (wish for 5 mp back and 3 front with HD video on both)
-wish it had magic mouse support for safari and such

the rest are just things i want.

-knowing one with double resolution might be out soon:D
-two speakers
-two mics
-1 gb ram.

thats it. if it had those it would be perfect. the processor is great and the thing handles difficult tasks like a champ.

I still don't get this. Why do so many people cite the lack of stereo speakers as an issue?

a. The iPad is too small a device to offer decent separation with two speakers.

b. Rotation means speakers left and right could in one turn be on one side truly destroying what little separation was there. The iPad is designed to be used as much in portrait as it is in landscape and this is one of the benefits of it imho. Stereo speakers just wouldn't work on such a device.

Bottom line, if you want stereo then use headphones or hook up to a proper audio system. I would appreciate a better speaker in it but no big deal either way.

let's hear more about that! tell me how you do it.

for example, i am working on a presentation for tomorrow right now and i have created most of it in evernote. i began writing it on my ipad while i was on a trip, but that was the first draft. i have a handout of about 20 pages to go along with it that i have made along with heavy editing to the presentation itself.

it seems like it would have taken a long time to edit if i had to use the ipad. maybe i am doing something wrong.

For stuff like that, I use Pages. Save and export as pdf's for the audience handouts.

The iOS. Downlaodinga new os consumes over 600mb and yet lacks so many basic functions, file system, interface with airport (soon), safari doesn't offer a quick close of the current screen ( other browsers offer a better tabbing function) Quick access to turn on/off functions such as airplane, wifi, location (sbsettings spoiled me). Save pictures to different to folders.
However, it's an excellent device for everyday use and very happy I bought it.

I have a macbook with an external display.

I'd like a native (I mean made by Apple) app for using the iPad as an external keyboard + touchpad with another Mac. That is, using the iPad as the keyboard and touchpad combo with my Mac.

There are VNC and local wifi alternative apps but usually are slow and the keyboard is 4 rows only. For kana input I need 5 rows in the keyboard layout.

EDIT: I'd like to have more than 9 tabs in safari, but I gave it a second thought and it seems like a good limit for my own sanity to just work with little and get things done.

I wish it had a "retina" type display that would be a huge plus. It almost seems easier to read on my iPhone 4 than the iPad.

Fingerprints. I'm really hoping one day, something will come out that doesn't show any fingerprints.

thanks for the advice! i had another presentation, so i got pages ahead of time and gave it a try. unfortunately, it has no footnote feature, so it was useless :(

still, as i said in the thread i made about it, i was able to get a lot done thanks to everyone's advice. the ipad isn't quite where i want it to be yet, but it is a lot closer than i originally thought.

Things that bother me the most:
1). No USB port with file access. I would like to be able to drag and drop files. I run Windows computers and to be honest iTunes is really bad. Hopefully IOS5 will remove the tether to iTunes. This will be really nice.

2). Frequently I need to have a couple of apps open at the same time and beagle to see both windows concurrently. Usually when I access my ewallet. This is just a pain.

3). I know it's a touch device but really, arrow keys on the keyboard would be a real pleasure. Typeing a mistake, having to stop, move your finger to try to enlarge the correct area (and don't place your finger in front of the error because you can't back up) is time consuming and means that I can't use my ipad for anything longer than short emails. And really, trying to use a two-finger scroll to edit posts to a forum.... Come on.

4). Flash, yes I know, but I do run into issues of not having it just about every day. My husband visits sites all the time that use Flash and to be honest, he is thinking of selling his iPad and getting a Playbook. For him, it is a real issue.

I use my iPad a lot but it does come up short in some ways. It's a shame because I really like the form factor. And I'm sure I will continue to enjoy it but I run into some limitations every day.

Complaints for my personal usage:

- No built-in DropBox-like service at the OS level. But I guess iOS 5 will solve a lot of it through iCloud.

- For my preference it's about an inch small diagonal-wise.

- Low DPI compared to latest phones.

- Sometimes arrow keys are solely missed on the keyboard, luckily some apps come with them.

- True for any ARM-based tablet: no Microsoft Office suite. If Microsoft made a tablet version of Office suite with complete file format compatibility, it'll be a huge seller and a lot of complaints about productivity will go away.

- No Expose-like feature, although the gesture solves some of it.

- The camera kit file compatibility can be problematic sometimes, especially with the voltage requirement.

I don't really have any issue with my iPad (iPad 2 32gb AT&T). I understand that it's not a laptop and certain things aren't going to be as easy to do on it.

I've had my iPad for a little over a month. My biggest gripe, and it really bugs me: it is SUCH an awkward device to hold. There's no way to hold it and use it with one hand, and the thing is heavy. And it's next to impossible to type on it without having to stretch your fingers awkwardly. The bezel needs to go completely or the screen needs to be 1-2" smaller.

No Flash is sometimes a pain. Not for videos, but for websites with navigation features that require Flash. iSwifter usually handles everything I need, but still an extra step to open another app.

Inability to seamlessly open up files in the Dropbox app, edit, then have them uploaded automatically to Dropbox. This can be through Docs To Go, but why have the same file in two different apps? Doesn't make sense.

No fully Office-compatible suite. Docs To Go and Quick Office each come close in their own ways, but nothing that will act as a full Office replacement. Still too many commonly used features missing.

There are times when it would be nice to have two apps running simultaneously or in some sort of split-screen mode, but I understand the current constraints that would pose on battery life.

The typing part should be fixed with the new keyboard in iOS 5
